Fitted car kits - any experiences ?

Hi,

I am going to install an SE car kit with cradle etc. in my next car. It will be wired rather than bluetooth as I need the bluetooth port for Wayfinder GPS.

Question is as follows:

Most of the cars I am considering have the option of a multi-functional wheel which can interface with some car kits/phones i.e. there are buttons on the wheel which allow the driver to answer and/or disconect a call.

I know that the majority of these manufacturer fitted wheels will interface with phones such as Nokia 6230 and SE T610/T630 if the correct conectors are used.

Has anybody experience of using a P900 in such a set up ?

If the SE interface on the T610/T630 is there a reason why it should not work on the P900 ?

Hope this makes sense - thanks in advance for any assistance.

Take a look at this system from Parrots, bluetooth handsfree plus GPS. More convience than try to hook up to factory system.

I use the HCA-20 in my Benz.... With the HCH-30 Holder and they work perfectly together. Besides the HCH-30 is adjustable so I can use my other SE phones with it.

When I first got this installed over two years ago now, I had the tech guy at the installer call Benz USA to talk with their staff concerning propper wiring to use the advanced mute adaptor which mutes the stereo and allows for the call to be routed through the speakers in the car. I was right there with the tech guy when he made the call. He put the call on speaker phone so we could both ask questions. Benz informed us that their wiring was not compatable with outside Non-Benz phone kits. The speaker wiring is fiber optic.... I believe this was done specifically for the US market as Moto has a deal in place with Benz and the only phone kit that will work over here is the V60 Moto kit hard wired into the system.

So in the long run my kit works great, it mutes the radio on all calls made or recieved it just doesn't pipe the sound through the speakers. Which would have been nice but I can live with the loud speaker they have as it is very loud on the high setting. Besides it's been working for over two years without any issues....

Good Luck....

Frank,

Thanks very much for your reply - just the kind of thing I'm looking for.

I assume that due to the Moto exclusivity deal in the US then you cannot use the multi function wheel in your MB to control the phone ?

I think you're right ref US specific wiring looms because I know that here in UK MB car kits & cradles work with certain Nokia, SE & moto phones.

I just can't seem to get an answer fom either BMW, MB, Audi, Saab or Nissan as to whether a P900 will fit their factory car kit cradles - they only have experience of "standard" handsets i.e N6310, SE T610 and Moto V series so it looks like I'll have to go with the SE kit as you have outlined. Glad to hear it works so well.

Thanks again.
