what would unlocking a kyocera se 47 allow me to do...does it let me get free cell phone service from US Cellular or does it have to do with like upping ringtones and wallpapers and crap?

a lot of phones are "locked" to providers, meaning you can't easily switch carriers, and bring your phone with you. unlocking the phone would let you switch, say, from Virgin Mobile, to Verizon or USC or something...

The first thing I would ask you is who are you trying to take the phone to, or what company? The phone would have to be made to be on the same system as the old carrier. CDMA to CDMA...TDMA to TDMA...Like Alltel to Verizon Alltel codes their phones so Verizon would have to Flash them to work on the Verizon system. If the phone came from ATT to Verizon it will not work. TDMA-CDMA.
