Ever seen a conversion from GSM to 8860?

Yeah, I know it sounds weird (you usually only find 8290 to 8890 conversions), but I was wondering if anyone has ever seen such a thing as a conversion from a Nokia GSM phone (8290/8390/8890) to 8860. (That's chrome not brushed aluminum.)

Anyone ever heard of or seen something like that?

You want the 8860 case?

Essentially yes. I'm looking to see if there's an 8860 full housing that one could shoehorn a GSM Nokia into (ideally an 8290).

I know they exist for the 8260 (or that you can put an 8260 into an original 8860 full housing) but I'm wondering if it would work with a GSM phone, or if there is a kit out there that is made to convert a GSM Nokia into an 8860 (cosmetically, anyway).

I see you've got an 8860 wasting away in your closet; any particular reason you shelved it?

Sorry about that... I didn't even think of the modding sub-forum. Thanks for the move.

who knows..maybe it will fit...or you can make it fit by modding the 8860 housing...anything is possible

The 8810 was the first phone (900/1800 GSM) with a 8860 housing
look under that to see if you can find anything

I was asking this in another forum. If I could take the board out of my 8265 and make them fit in an 8890 housing.

And if anyone has an 8890 sittin around collecting dust. lol.......

That's a good idea; I suppose there's a better chance of a GSM 8290 going into a GSM 8810 housing than a TDMA 8860 one.

Don't count on the 8290 board to fit into the 8810 housing. It's totally different, the charger, earpiece, backup battery, and sim card are all in different locations. The 8810 housing actually *CAN* fit an 8260/8860 Board, with little modification.

Hmmm. That's not exactly what I wanted to hear, but it's good to know.

It doesn't sound like there's a way to get an 8860-looking phone working on a GSM system at 1900 MHz, then.

Bah.

I think that I saw a 8290 to 8860 Chrome Slide faceplate on ebay once.... a while ago...

No The 8860 is a TDMA phone and looks like that picture only it is chrome color.

Thats a Nokia 8890. The 8860 has a bell bottom, and is a chrome finish.
