Hey all, I've got a problem here. I just moved to San Diego and I get no service on the freeway and at some friends' houses. The coverage map shows a completely red blot over the area but I can't use my phone in my buddy's living room. A verizon rep told me I need run the roaming update but I suspect the problem is with dead zones.

Has anyone had luck getting out of a contract for something like this? I just started a two year contract and had no complaints until my phone quit working once I moved.

I think some have gotten out of their contracts due to the issue you have. You should talk to them about it.

I visit San Diego and Los Angeles on a regular basis and have never had no service on the freeway with my Verizon phone anywhere in San Diego...My guess would be that something with your phone might be wrong.

I guess it could be a problem with the VX6000 I have in that it has no analog capability. I did find an article in the paper about it and the cell companies are complaining that local communities aren't allowing them to build towers, hence the dead zones. I suppose if my phone had analog I could roam through these dead zones but that doesn't sound ideal either.

FYI my problem is on the I-15 between San Diego and Escondido so the San Diego to L.A. analogy doesn't really apply. I know a few other people with the same problem but they didn't ask about dead zones before they signed up. I did back at my old place and there weren't any known dead zones; not the case here in San Diego apparently.

I guess that was ment for me
What I ment was I visit both San Diego and L.A. regulary and travel a lot within both cities and never have any real problems. I know of a lot of people with Verizon in San Diego and L.A.(in fact, a lot of them came over from Sprint) and they never have problems either.
