Correct me if I'm wrong, but the GX30 isn't available yet for free on pay as you go ... in fact, NO phone I have seen is available for free on pay as you go ... So somehow, it's just a thought, I don't think the GX40 is available yet for free on Vodafone PAYT ... In fact, I don't think it's available yet at all ... There seems to be a Sharp GX20i though, after running searches on the internet?

No probs. I've been running searches on the internet for a Sharp GX20i and I've come up with loads of sites that feature GX20i accessories on their website, however I've gone to Sharp's website (www.sharp-mobile.com) and there seems to be no mention of a GX20i yet GX20i would be a progression of the GX20, just like the GX10i is a progression of the GX10.

Ah well, I'll be waiting for the Sharp GX40 to be released. WHEN it is released lol. Apparently the GX40 is being trialed at the moment, says certain websites but these are just rumors - I've yet to see a picture of the GX40, just the Japanese V4, V6 and V8 series.

Posted by: grahamt

It was actually a mistake by Vodafone. It shouldn;t have been on the site at all let alone for free!

However, whilst it was up there I managed to order 3

Be interesting to see how they get out of supplying them as they have taken the carriage charges from my credit card already, and I have a Paid invoice stating I have bought them....

I believe that's legally binding.

Cheers
Graham

hey way to go graham...let us know what they try and do to accomodate you...this sounds interesting
cheers

Pls let me know how you got on as well - I only managed to order 2!

They will of course reimburse your credit card and cancel the order. They can't supply what they don't have. Simple!

Posted by: graham_may

This was posted on another forum that I frequent.
it was a balls-up by Voda and anyone that ordered one was getting an e-mail to bascially say that the order placed was incorrect and you needed to contact Voda to confirm which handset you actually wanted (the free GX40 text was accompanied by a 7610 pic!)

As far as i am aware voda do not have any legal obligtion to uphold the offer if it was incorrect 9according to members on the other forum, i don't know consumer law issues!)

no point to a GX20i though...the 30 is already out and the GX22 is basically a 20i cuz it has the better screen. i'm justpatiently waiting for the 40 hehe

Lol ... me too!

Posted by: naimwslim04

It's nearly here, peeps - http://www.shopforphones.co.uk/sharp-gx40.htm. And yes, it does resemble a Japanese V6 series phone. It's got a 262k CGS screen like the GX30, but it's got a 2MP camera! But it's got bluetooth too, unlike the Japanese version.

Posted by: Dynamoo

The reason it looks like a Japanese V-series phone is because it's the V602SH (the text describes this).

The rumint is that the GX40 combines elements from the V602SH and the GX30. Don't forget that the GX40 has to be *better* than the GX30 and that's frankly a tough call.

Posted by: naimwslim04

True - the GX30, in terms of hardware, is pretty good... I wonder if the GX40 has a dog translator like the V602SH has??

Posted by: gram333

I saw this a few weeks ago that it was up for free...

Waited a while and sent a letter of complaint, Had to sign up and tell all who managed to order that... vodafone are sending a cheque for £200 as compensation

laughing my way to bank, along with a few other from another forum who i informed

Posted by: starstalker

hm... when will it be released? will it have an mpg player?

Posted by: sheeldz

With the Announcement of the Gx25, 802 and 902 I'm sure the GX40 will be announced soon - or.....

The 802 with be the Gx40
The 902 will be the Gx50

Posted by: starstalker

are u sure about that?
cause i looked at the pictures of gx 40, 802 and 902 and they are nothing alike

Posted by: starstalker

sorry, just realised that what u said is true

anyone know if these infos are true?

www.gsmarena.com ( 802 and 902 )

and does anyone have the slightest idea of how much will it cost?

Posted by: starstalker

gx 50?

Posted by: Dynamoo

I understand that the launch order will be GX30i and then GX40. The GX30i will be announced within the next month, and I understand the GX40 will be launched sometime after that.

Posted by: starstalker

what would be the gx 30i?

what do the 902, 802, gx 40 have in common>?

Posted by: sheeldz

I was only speculating that the802 and the 902 were going to be renamed - the might not. How ever i saw it as a simple rebranding (they are going to be the David Beckham phones probably) and naming them the same family would make sense.

Or, they are going to keep the new names for the UMTS phones (makes sense) and a Prepay compatabile Gx30i and Gx40 released later.

However, why the Gx30i ? Like the Gx25, should it not be a competly new phone? Gx35?

Posted by: Dynamoo

The GX30i has better Bluetooth and other software enhancements (the GX30 was a bit crippled). As far as I know the hardware is basically identical. It may or may not be possible to flash as GX30 to GX30i, I don't know.

As for the GX40.. well, there will be a GX40 class phone, probably still with the GX-series moniker. The assumption that it will be related in some way to the V602SH is just informed guesswork I think, however the V602SH does share several characteristics with the 802/902 (V802SH/V902SH in Japan).

The 802 & 902 names will stick I think. Vodafone are pushing the "global mobile" aspect on this one, so expect them to adopt the Japanese numbering system.

When phone comes europe(SIM-Free model) .

Posted by: oneeyejack

can the gx-40 be used on non 3g gsm networks??? ie: t-mobile/cingular/etc..

Posted by: Dynamoo

The GX40 *is* a GSM phone, not a 3G phone. It will be locked to Vodafone networks, but it will roam to other GSM networks.

By implication, the GX42 should be available from SmarTone too, and previous "2" series GXs (GX22/GX32) are available SIM free and unlocked.

It's pretty clear how the GX40 would shape up in technical terms I think, but there are other commercial pressures. Basically, the GX40 will most likely be a GSM variant of the 902, but the 902 is one of the key weapons for Vodafone's 3G rollout, so I guess the GX40 won't be announced any time very soon.

There's some more analysis here: http://www.mobilegazette.com/sharp-gx40.htm

Posted by: starstalker

so no chance itll be out before january?

Posted by: naimwslim04

When I went to my local Vodafone Store yesterday, I had asked them about the current range on the GX series, and I had also asked them what the next phone will be.

He told me that a Sharp GX25 (now available) and a Sharp GX30i (available within 2 weeks from yesterday) will be released, and then that's it in terms of the GX series - he said that after that, a new range of phone will be released (and I'm assuming this is the Sharp 802/902) ... So no GX40?

Posted by: Dynamoo

Both the GX25 and GX30i have been sort-of-announced, so it's widely known in the dealership network. A little birdie tells me that there *is* a GX40, or at least a major upgrade to the GX30 platform, but it's still some way off.

I think the key problem is that any GSM phone with a spec like the V602SH will badly hurt Vodafone's 3G rollout of which the 902 is a flagship.

They may not call it a GX40 though if the 3G phones mark the era of a new naming convention.

Posted by: Smooove

I've not been a fan of the sharp phones, but after reading about the V602SH I'm definately converted. Loving the look of that phone! Anyway to get one for the UK??

I was almost going to get the GX30 from voda, but after reading reports of the crippled bluetooth and no mp3 ring tones then that was it. I can't see the point in having bluetooth capabilities that are seriously limited, or having an MP3 player capability but leaving out the option to play mp3s as ringtones.... Dosen't make sence.

Sounds like they are puting that to rights with the upgraded gx30i

But personally I'm just lovng the V602SH. Lliking the way the scren swivels and turns. If the GX40 is anything like that with functional bluetooth and MP3 support for ringtones then I'm all in!

Posted by: starstalker

i havent found anywhere saying it plays mpeg4

does anyone have any idea if it will have the capability?

does that mean i can download movies from the internet and watch it in the phone>?
