changing sl56 ringtone behavior?

There's one thing about my sl56's ringer that I don't like but can't figure out how to change:

When I get a call, the phone plays the first second or two of the ringtone slightly muted, then plays the rest of the tone at whatever volume I've set it to.

I guess I get the idea behind this - if the phone is nearby, you'll hear the muted ringtone and can answer right away without disturbing everyone around you with a loud ringer.

So call me anti-social, but I want my phone to play my whole ringtone at the volume I've set it to. Does anyone know how to make the phone do this? I can't find any settings in the menus for it.

My only idea so far is to recreate my ringtone (using PSMplay) with a blank second or two at the beginning. But I'm not sure I know how to get PSMplay to do that, and I'd rather just make the phoe behave the way I want.

Thanks for any and all help!

You probably have the volume set to 'Ascending' and you can change that easily if that's what it is.

Go to Menu - Setup - Audio (may be different on Sl56) - Volume --> once you are there select all calls or group calls to check on the volume, notice you have a 5-setting gauge and then it shows on top an ascending step which is probably what you have it on.

Even if you set it to a "normal" fixed volume the first 2 secons are not as loud. Probably can't change it....

You guys are both right.

I did have the volume set to "ascending". But even after changing the volume to a normal setting it *still* plays the first second or so muted.

So I'm going to try re-creating my ringtone with some blank space at the beginning to eat up the muted portion. Can't think of anything else to try...

Speaking of ringtones on the sl55, did you guys notice the ringtones to be really really soft??
Mines is.. well.. maybe I noticed that because I went from a inno 80 to a sl55..

Have you tried to change the Enviroment setting to loud? I had the same problam but not with all the ringtones( i play mostly downloaded ones though....and after all this fancy polyphonic stuff i ended up with just the loudest simpliest tones..if you interested i can send you the links to the free site..)

Is that the same as using the "noisy environment" profile? I just gave that a try but it didn't make a difference.

I was able to make a new ringtone that has 2 silent seconds at the beginning. That solved the problem - by the time the phone gets past the blank part it has already ramped up the volume to full.

The only downside is that now when I get a call my phone has already been "ringing" for two seconds before I hear anything.

The lower ringtone in the beginning could also help save your ear.

Like if someone gets disconnected without you knowing and call back while the phone is still held to your ear.
