Hi there!
I was hoping someone might be able to help me -
I am in the USA and on my way to Israel for an
extended trip - I now have a verizon phone -
an audiovox 8900 - can that work over there?

If not - what can I buy that is comparable?
I am open, the speaker phone isn't that great,
but it seems to be a pretty good phone. . .

Do they use SIM cards over there? or like verizon -
they do not? or do they use both? I just want to
be happy with my phone and I just got the audiovox,
so it's kind of a shame to dump it. . .

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

By the way:
I am not locked in to any specific service company -
I just don't know enough about the different phones -
I DO use sms and perhaps if it isnt so costly email too-
I am kind of a gadget freak, so I prefer a cam and speaker,
but I really am open. . .

The main three cell firms in Israel are:
http://www.pelephone.co.il/catalog....tId=164&fId=128

I see the Telit x95 and that looks exactly like MY audiovox -
but I don't know if it can work over there - any ideas?

The other two firms are:
http://www.cellcom.co.il/cellcom/do...1.8.1&type_in=L

and of course:
http://www.orange.co.il/catalog/

the 8900will not work your best and cheapest bet is to get a pre paid phone over there and then sell it back to them when u come home...

Look here:

Israel is listed as one of the places where you can use your existing Verizon CDMA phone. You have to call Verizon first to get it authorized, I guess. And you will pay upwards of 0.69/min.

For a short visit that might be OK. For an extended time you would want to arrange for local service over there.

Hey there!
Yea I figured that out -
THANKS FOR THE REPLY!!!

I guess bet best is to go GSM - any ideas?

I figure I ought buy the phone here -
BUT WHICH ONE?!?!!? Any ideas at all?

if ur going there for a long time, you might as well cancel your service here, and pick up a GSM phone and number from there. No point to keep a US number in Israel for a long period of time, you will end up paying roaming charges up the Ying Yang.

I doubt, you want to make any calls over there. Aren't roaming fees going to be a ×××××?
