You need to change the file extension. The following link explains how to do this in painful detail.

I've got the same story. Until I get the patch cable, I wanted to email a couple tones to my phone. I changed the file extention on the mp3 to .mid, and emailed it to my phone through my yahoo email. I got the email almost instantaneously, but it couldn't find the attachment.

So, I logged onto vzwpix.com and tolerated their horrible interface. I sent the message at 10:30 last night. I'm still waiting for it to show up on my phone.

Does emailing a .mid file from any email work, or does it have to be done through vzwpix.com?

...Ok I finally got it.... what i did was take my mp3 or wav files trimmed them down to about 20 to 30 seconds then I used a audio converter I found online called ace high mp3 wav wma ogg converter. You can use it free for 30 days then you must register it for 19.99 afterwards....but it works really well. If my song is already mp3 i rename it to a wav or wma file then compress it so that it is reading 24 bits and 22,050 hz and is reading mono..then once it is compressed I change the ext to .mid.......after that I go to myvzw.com and send it to my phone done....so it will work after some practice... .....one thing though...I dont mind paying the 19.99 to do this.....but is there a free version that works that does not exprire..with the one I am using after about 5 tries with each different convert it then tells you that u need to get the license to keep doing it....not a major problem just a question...............thanks

Do a search on this site for CMX Studio. This is a freeware application provided by QualComm for phone developers. It reads in WAV and MP3 files and creates "superphonic" ringtones.
