hey everyone,

Just bought the cable of ebay with curitel usb drivers. The drivers got installed properly (i think) on my win2k machine. When i open bitpim and select the correct port here what it shows inthe log file:

17:37:04.578 COM6: Opening port COM6, 115200 baud, timeout 3.000000, hardwareflow 0, softwareflow 0
17:37:04.588 COM6: Open of comm port suceeded
17:37:04.598 LG-VX4400: Attempting to contact phone
17:37:04.608 LG-VX4400: Getting file contents 'dloadindex/brewRingerIndex.map'
17:37:07.622 COM6: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read
17:37:07.632 COM6: Changed port speed to 38400
17:37:11.128 COM6: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read

Under file system if i click the + button it just shows retrieving and nothing else happens. Can someone help me with this. tell me what am i missing or doing wrong???

Thanks

You are specifying the wrong port. Use the port that is assigned the the Curitel modem device. This has been covered in the forums ad nauseum.

Z,

I am using the correct port. The port actually showed Crutel port driver name and then it said Com 6. It was port 3 at one point but then i disconnected/reconnected and it went to com 6. i was getting the same results when i was using com 3

No you're not using the correct port, because if you were it'd be working! I'll restate what I said in my previous post. USE THE PORT THAT IS ASSIGNED TO THE CURITEL MODEM DEVICE. You're most likely using the diagnostic port that is created under the COM ports. That device does not work unless you modify the handset to specifically use the diagnostics port using the ##PORT code.

oh do you mean the port which is assigned to it under phone/modem settings in control panel???

Don't bother messing with the code, just use the port that's assigned to the modem.

It also might help to read the thread on "Tutorials for 8900" stickied at the top of the Audiovox forum. Great stuff in there.

Good luck.

The only problem with that suggestion is that the US versions of the 8900 have drastically different index files. Therefore most of the applications that are referenced in that thread won't work, and might end up locking up a Telus phone. It's worth a read, but he needs to understand that not all of the info is applicable.

I definately understand that! Being on CellOne and getting the 8900 before a lot of people, I had a heck of a time trying to find info that worked for me. Thanks to "the powers that be" that I didn't screw up my phone.

BTW, thanks for all your work and helpful info to all us noobies and ignorant slobs out here. It's appreciated.

It's my pleasure to help everyone out. If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't do it.

Bleh... why do I always get confused as to what forum I'm posting in. Always think I'm in the Telus forum... end up confusing myself. BLEH

Read the Tutorials for 8900 post that's stickied in this forum like leo suggested. Apparently I'm on some serious crack tonight.
