People that buy unlocked phones without contract - How do you handle a warranty?

I'm thinking about buying an unlocked E398 from howardforums.com but I'm leary about doing so. My main concern is that if there is something wrong with the phone, that was not my fault (some wierd software bug or electrical problem, for example) I'll be screwed and won't be able to get it replaced.

howardforums.com says they will "support [the phone] up to a week, [afterthat] you will need to contact Motorola." How do you contact Motorola to get them to support the phone? I imagine they don't have a nice warranty exchange program like T-Mobile where they send you a new phone first and then you return the defective unit so how long do you suspect I'd be without a phone?

And if anyone has any experience with howardforums.com, how good are they about exchanging defective phones or issuing refunds?

Thanks for any replies

Typically the manufacturer of a product has respondibility for the warranty. If a seller will swap out your product for you, they handle sending it back to the manufacturer for a refund/replacement.

In some places, the manufacturer does not handle the warranty diretly, but contracts with a local company to handle warranty issues.

You will need some proof of purchase, and you should register your handset with the manufacturer after you get it. Noramlly instructions are included with the handset.

Okay, good to know. Anyone have any experience with sending a phone back to Motorola, Nokia, Samsung or some other company?
