Intrusive background noise on standard GX30 mono headset

When I am driving my car and using the standard supplied GX30 mono headset, it picks up so much background noise that even if I talk really loudly it is nearly impossible for the person I'm calling to hear my voice above the background noise.

Now before you say "oh, you must have a noisy car" consider this. It is a quiet Mazda, driven with the windows closed. When using my previous phone (the legendary Siemens SL45) in the same car, with its stereo headset, my voice was so clear and the background noise so quiet, that callers often would not believe I was driving at anything up to 110km/h! It honestly sounded like I was in a quiet room.

Same car, same speeds, same roads...different phone. I tried talking on the GX30 in the car using the e606 headset and there was a slight improvement in voice clarity, but it was still nearly impossible for the caller to understand what I was saying.

My question is: has anyone else experienced this problem? And if so, any solutions?
