Why only suddenly 3 seconds of voice memo record time???

This is odd- When I record a voice memo on my 8900, suddenly, it stops automatically after 3 seconds! Just out of the blue a few days ago started doing it.
It still has the progress bar going towards 30 seconds, but stops and asks for "review or save" after 3 seconds!!!
I thought memory was full, but I erased most of my ringtones and pictures, have obout 1200k free, and it still only gives my 3 seconds of record time??? What gives???
