CF62T Questions

I recently got a CF62T. Are the data cable available in any local stores (rather than have to order and wait)? If so, which ones? Also I have been trying to download ringtones (I'm very new at this so please excuse the ignorance). I have noticed that none of the ringtone providers show the CF62T. Will one of the other Siemens phones work in its place? If so, which one. Also can someone please provide detailed directions for downloading and setting up for use. The manual simply says that you can download with not other information offered.
Thanks very much.

Dont get the data cable as it is not compatable with the cf62t

Don't get a datacable *as it isn't compatible*? What the heck does that mean? Not compatible with what??? Maybe not compatible with a Nokia or Motorola data cable for sure.
Of course the CF62T works with a data cable.
I'm using the USB data cable that was packaged for the Siemens S56 (by AT&T) with my CF62T without any difficulties. When installed (with the CF62T software), it sets up a icon on the desktop called simply "Mobile" which allow you to access the handset directly and put ringtones into the \sounds directory. You can also put the new ringtones in your incoming data subdirectory, listen to them there, and decide if you want to keep them and not have to look through all the ring tones already there. The phone knows where to put them ( in the \sounds directory) when you save.
BTW, the "up" side of the USB data cable is that you can use it to charge the phone while you have it hooked to the computer, well, in case the AC charger is somewhere else that is.
The CF62T also works quite well with the serial *non OEM* data cable I have for unlocking C56 - S56 - S55 - SL56 phones which all use the slim Lumberg connector. (... yes, that's what it's called)
Save some money and get yourself one of these non OEM serial data cables on ebay. You can find them for less than $10. Just look for one compatible with S56 and you'll be fine.
The CF62T manual claims that the handset uses .amr .wav and midi files for ringtones, but I've only been able to use midi with acceptable results. There's something strange about the format of the wav files it will accept, I found a converter on the web, and it made the wav files sound really strange on the phone. The manual says they work, but I haven't a clue what an "amr" sound file is.
To download a file from a web site, you can substitute S56 for the phone type, and it should give you a midi file, as that's what the S56 uses. You might try the wav file option, as you may have better luck than I did with mine.
Hope this helps.

It means I got a usb data cable (oem) and cannot get it to work with the cf62t... I called siemans about this and they said there is no data cable compatible for the cf62t only the cf62...
Posted by: waldog
As a matter of fact I just tried it again and guess what.. It won't work with the cf62 software... Where do I get the cf62t software??

Try this one from the Siemens web site, it's the one I'm using right now and it works 100% with my USB cable:

BTW, it says it's for the CF62 not CF62T, but it works with my mine with the OEM Siemens USB cable for a S56.

Do you have to setup anything in the phone?
Posted by: tbob
Nope. After installing the software just plug the phone in, and start the Siemens Data Suite, or just run the "mobile" icon it puts on the desktop. This allows you to access the handset like a drive.

Nope it doesn't work .... Siemens phones lick big ones..... Sorry to dog em but hey thats life. I've tried and tried to get this piece to work and it won't ,,,,,,,, I wish I would of kept my Sony t610... Or my moto v300.. F>>>> siemens.

Is this feature something that T-Mobile deleted from their version of the phone or does the cable not physically fit?
Posted by: tbob
Are you using the OEM same cable as I am? Siemens DCA-510 - with the little status lights and the switch near the end?
If so, did you run the setup program with the cable before installing and running the SDS software from the Siemens web site?
Posted by: waldog
same cable and everything.. Ive tried everything. And ive even called tmo and siemens, Both say its not compatable
Posted by: sbbamafan
IF you can't use the cable...what is the best method to get ringtones, etc? I'm getting frustrated. Either the phone is so new nobody has any advice, it is a piece of junk, or I'm just ignorant. What is your opinion as to the first two choices?
Posted by: waldog
I would say it option 2 ................... I think its not really a good phone for changing ring tones or background images. Everytime I try to download new images I always get a error or something. Im not just doggin the phone to be a d!ck ! Its just that my nokia 3595 worked better than this..

There are others here on Howardforums that are doing the same thing with the international version of the software:

waldog:
Did you run the USB cable install program that came on the mini CD with your cable? Do the lights work when you turn the switch on and off?
If not, you can get the latest version of the software at:
http://www.siemens-mobile.com/cds/f....html#co ntent
I can't believe this worked for me from the very first, I'm usually the one who has problems with software!

The lights come on like its charging and the lights on the cable work like its transfering data , But it wont let me use the phone it says error or please connect compatable phone.

What's the firmware version of your handset? Maybe they've changed something...?
Posted by: sbbamafan
How do you tell the 'firmware' nuber?
Posted by: tbob
Press *#06# and the IMEI number of the phone will be displayed, then press the INFO softkey and the firmware version and other stuff is displayed.
Alternately, you can also go to setup -> security -> phone identify and it will take you to just after the *#06# keystroke above.
