Just purchased the cable and installed the cruitel drivers that came with it and winxp doesn't see the drivers after install and neither does bitpim. I get the noise dun dun like windows knows its being pluged in to the usb but under settings in bitpin no option to select the cruitel packets. also if I plug in my phone when its fliped open the phone beebs then goes the the main cricket screen and freezes on the animation and then I have to take the battery out and in to turn it on again.

Is there an easy way to fix this problem Ive been uninstalling and reinstalling and rebooting my pc for 8+ hours now and im everything short of stomping my phone into the ground and its not even the phones fault.

ps I'm new to all of this I and Ive read through all of the forum so go easy on me. Ive also set the phone to data under usb settings in the phone. if that helps.

I'm at a standstill now because I've gotten to the point were now when I plug in the phone windows doesn't even beep like it knows its there and the phone just resets itself to the cricket screen and freezes. but the real problem is the driver I realy wish that they would sell a cable that came with a driver that actually worked this curitel driver isn't even windows freindly and it isn't signed either. could someone please help me on how to completely remove this driver so I can start over again. Or if there is a driver out there that would work with this crap cable I bought.
any advice would be appreciated thanks.

Actually...I use the curitel driver, so I know it works. Try running windows update. Also, go to your Control Panel, then to System, then Hardware, then Device Manager. Go down to modems, in there should be Curitel Service Pack. double click it, click the modem tab up top and look where it says COM#.
Remember that Com#. In BitPim go to your settings and put that COM port in. (Example, mine uses COM3).
If even that doesn't work, it's probably your phone and not the driver at all.

Hey thanks for the help! I folowed your steps and under modems it isn't listed there. But when I click on the cruitel install it just says that the packet has been successfully installed. Maybee I will need to manually delete the driver files and try to reinstall the driver but I don't know how to do that because I'm not sure what files to delete or where there even at in the system folders. I'm very frustrated though.

thanks for the advise though!

Alright, so I can get a better idea of the trouble you're having, what kind of cable do you have? Is it the straight USB cable or does it have a sorta of...bump in the middle?

Its the one with the box inline that has "usb data cable" printed on it and there is a sticker on the other connection not the usb side but the phone jack side that says 8900 the cable came with the curitel usb driver disc.

I use p4 2.8,512mb,xphome,hp pavilion

I'm not an expert by far but I think that my phone might be the problem because Ive searched the forum and havn't seen any threads on other peoples phones once plugged into the usb cable resetting themselves automaticaly and then locking up on the cricket startup screen. But I'm really just confused

sounds to me like it is definitely the phone itself. take it into the dealership where you bought it and explain to them that it is resetting itself whenever the cable is plugged in. I am a technician by trade, but I don't know much about Cell Phone architecture. That being said, it sounds to me like a short on the cable port.

Thanks dude for the helpful advice I will take it in and see what they can do hopefully I wont have to go without a phone for long.
Someday I will be able to get cool ring tones and graphics on my phone!!!

Dude! you are the man! I thought about what you said and looked at the port on the phone and everything looked okay so then I checked the usb port on the computer it was okay then I looked at the cable and realized that the side you connect to the phone one of the metal bars wasn't popping out after you squeez it and let go so I bent it out a little and plugged it back in and instantly windows found new hardware and installed the cruitel software packets. Sweet! now when I open BitPim and go to settings I see the Curitel packets under ports but its listed as Inoperable so I quess I need to adjust the settings now but I am happy because now I've actually made some progress thanks alot!!

Okay anyone know what this is? now when I plug in the phone it goes to a white screen on the phone that says

fs_dir.c 09192

then flashes the blue lights on the side the goes back to that screen again any thoughts or know what this means?
This is what happens when I plug the usb cable in while the phone is flipped open
If I plug it in while the phone is closed and then open it after its plugged in nothing happens!

once I get this message flashing the only way to get the phone back to normal is to take the battery off and back on again.

As far as I can tell, man, your phone is fubar. As long as it's still under warranty, just take it back and get a new one, most places won't even ask questions. All of that could be from complications from the bent pin on your phone. Ever taken a positive and a negative wire and touched them together? That spark can do a lot of damage to electronics.
