I tried searching and didn't see anything specific about this topic.

Is there a way to use the GPS functionality on the 8900? I know there is the '911 only' and 'Location on' option for it, but I am wondering if there is a way to be able to connect the phone to a laptop and use it to get the current coordinates for the various mapping programs that are out there that support gps.

Thanks.

Well there is Assisted GPS hardware inside the phone but the issue is that most towers don't support it yet. I have heard that some people in certain area were able to get a gps fix on the phone but I have not been able to.

To open the GPS Test menu type ##4771 or ##gps1. Turn off the GPS lock and then try it. If you get a fix then you are lucky. Tell us how it goes!

Thanks for the reply. I tried doing what you said but I just get 0's, so I guess it isn't turned on for the tower I am connected to. I am in Cambridge, Mass. Do you know what some of the other settings in that menu do?

I'll try messing around with it more and post back if I have any luck.

Thanks for the links. I'll switch over to that thread and mess around with my data cable and see if I can figure anything out with that.
