A: The 10$ retention plan is a plan you can *ONLY* get once you're been on a regular monthly plan for three (3) consecutive months. The 10$ plan allows you to keep all the privileges of being on a FIDO monthly plan (some of advantages include billing per second, free call fowarding [1000 minutes], ability to add value added services like CD, VM, SMS, GPRS, etc, and also the ability ro roam *IF* your credit rating allows it)

CS opening hours :
Monday through Friday - 8:00am to 9:00pm
Saturday and sunday - 8:00am to 5:00pm

*Opened outside those hours for EMERGENCY CALLS only*
Definition of an emergency :
-Network problems (not the "my phone is broken" problem, the "a tower has just been struck by lightning" problem)
-PUK (Personal Unlocking Key)
-Voice mail access code (as dumb as it seems, it IS considered emergency)
-Roaming customers

Posted by: jrviolette

SMS/MMS
SMS :
You can SMS anywhere in the world. The SMS sent overseas are sent by Microcell network, but there is no warranty whatsoever that it will go through with the receiving carrier. (actually this even applies with canadian and US carriers, we all know the extended reliability of Rogers network, for example)
Charge: Each SMS sent or received from Canada are charged 10¢. While you are roaming, make sure to check with the roaming fees because sometimes it goes as high as 1$.
If you have an SMS package (3$/50, 5$/100, 10$/1000), it doesn't include messages used through an online contest (ie: the recent Labatt Hockey challenge) since you are charge BY the company holding the conest (a little like calling a 1-900 number)
Note: For PREPAID customers, when your account goes completely empty, you have to make at least one voice call before SMS will work again. I recommend 611, which is free.

GPRS
Here is the basic info on GPRS packages for both postpaid and prepaid plans. Keep in mind that GPRS is a packet-based service, and therefore charges you for transmission of data, not airtime.

Postpaid GPRS:
Pay per use plan : 0.03$/Kb transmitted
Fixed plans: 5$/500Kb , 25$/5Mb , 50$/unlimited

The way it works is fairly simple, you get charged for the data you transmit, and have the possibility to use your GPRS service as a modem on your laptop or PC.

Prepaid GPRS:
You are charged at the regular rate of 0.30$/min, but only when you have effectively transmitting data. There is no limit of data you can transmit, but it is to be noted that you only have access to WAP , you cannot connect to a PC to use your GPRS as a modem.

An example: You go take a look at movie listings, when you first load (transmit) the first page, you are charged for the first minute (0.30$) and can load an unlimited number of pages during that minute. If, on the 60th second, you are still loading a page, the second minute get charged and so on. Then let's say on the 115th second, you found what you needed and stop loading pages, the charge is limited to 2 minutes. You can remain connected, without loading any pages. Then, 10 minutes later, you reload another page, so you get charged one minute and the whole process starts again.
Bottom line is, since once you began loading, you are charged for a minute anyway, try to know what you are looking for and do it under one or two minutes

I would like to remind everyone to keep this thread as a "Fido facts" thread please. Please disregard the posts done by people who obviously have a reading problem and attention disorder issue. I know it's tempting to answer, but please don't

Also, if you have any questions, please ask them in a separate thread, and if there is need to add/modify the info given here, we'll act accordingly.

Now, there are always a few questions regarding the voice messaging setup and usage. Here are the general rules:

1- For the first-time access, you should use the setup key, which is determined by the area where you live. Here is the list :
*123 Province of Québec & Ottawa
*456 Province of Ontario
*789 Province of beautiful British Columbia
*147 Province of Alberta
*369 Province of Saskatchewan & Manitoba

Note that there is also one for Halifax, but it's a local number ending with the usual 1123(sorry do not remember the number at this time), not the * code.

****Doing this should setup your handset to dial the appropriate local messaging center number ending with 1123 and the appropriate call fowarding.*****

2- You must use the initial password which is determined by the information you provided upon creating your account.
Prepaid: your month end year of birth (ie january 1975 = 0175)
Postpaid: the first 4 digits of your postal code(ie H1H 1H1 = 4141)
Always use the # key after entering your access code.

After that, you just have to follow the instructions, change your access code and record your greeting message (or voice signature on prepaid)

Also, it is to be noted that you shouldn't change and/or delete the message center number and/or voice messaging number stored in your handset, it is normal that it is a number different than your Fido phone number, it will be a number ending with 1123. Even if you travel, you should keep the same one in there, as it is never a long distance call to dial this number when you're in a digital area.

It should also be noted that the VM works with call fowarding, therefore you should make sure that your conditional call fowarding (foward when "unreachable", "not able to take calls", or "all conditions") is activated to the 1123 local number.

This should answer the most common setup VM options.

As far as charges go, you are always charged local airtime to retrieve messages when you call from your Fido.
However, if you subscribe to a monthly airtime package, you can avoid being charged airtime by using a landline or another handset (a friend's handset maybe ) and dial your Fido number, wait for the greeting message, and press *. This does NOT apply to prepaid, you can still access your voice mail that way, but the airtime will be taken off your account balance.
When you are roaming in Canada, whichever number is programmed in your handset as the messaging center will be considered local, When you're in the US, the regular US roaming rate applies. If you're roaming internationally, the regular rates also apply.

FACT: fido issues environmentally unfriendly bills
for those under the fido-to-fido plan, each and every fido-to-fido text message is documented with detail. as a result of this detailed billing scheme for fido-to-fido text messaging, many customers are subject to unecessarily long paper bills (ie, far too many pages). some may opt for online billing as a solution for this outrageous waste of paper. however, instead of relying on customers to fix this, fido must take resposibility. individuals with true concerns are encourages to suggest to CSRs (or anyone at fido) that fido re-consider such an unjustified billing scheme.

Can I use any phone on Fido?

No. The phone you use must use GSM wireless technology and be capable of the 1900Mhz frequency (Rogers GSM phones use 1900Mhz and 850Mhz).

It must also be either a Fido handset, or (if it was used on another GSM provider's network) it must be unlocked.

Unlocking the phone will let you use it on any GSM network that supports the frequency (or frequencies) your phone is capable of.

It's a good idea to buy a phone already unlocked unless you're familiar with the process and can do it yourself - this just saves you the hassle.

Phones used on Telus, Bell Mobility, Sprint, or Verizon networks will not work with Fido or any other GSM service provider.

Where can I get GSM phones if I don't like the ones sold by Fido?

You've come to the right place! Check the GSM Buy/Sell/Trade forum on HowardForums and search for the handset you'd like to buy (hopefully after doing some research on your own).

If you don't find it on HoFo you can check ebay as well (just make sure you deal with a reputable seller).

And once again, make sure it's unlocked (if it's not already a Fido phone).

fact: no detailed billing for $10-bundled SMS
if you subscribe to the $10 text bundle, you will not receive detailed billing for non-FIDO SMSs. you will not even be informed how many non-FIDO SMSs u have made. only in the event you go over the bundle's limit will you receive such information. it seems hypocritical since FIDO provides detailed billing for F2F SMSs (for F2F customers), generating unneccesarily long bills, and thus a waste of paper.

some users have expressed that they DO in fact want to know their non-FIDO SMS activity - for situations where one may need to monitor whether or not the service is actually worth subscribing to. according to several FIDO CSRs, this is the procedure to follow (almost verbatim):
-write on a piece of paper every time you send and receive a non-fido SMS
-dont lose that piece of paper
-count "manually" every month to determine the amount you have sent & received.

or (according to another CSR):
-remove your bundle and proceed texting as normal. on your billing day you will actually see your non-FIDO texting activity.
-the CSR acknowledges that it may be a waste of money, in which case follow the above method.

Fact:
I truly feel sorry for anyone who tries to come into this thread looking for reliable info, rather than opinions or debates

Props to jrviolette, who at least tried, once more...

Long distance

Rate: 0.10$/min, billed per second after the first 30 seconds.

Making a call: The charge is determined by the origin of your call (where you are phisically) vs the destination. It has nothing to do with your "home area" (your area code).
eg: If you have a 416 area code, and are travelling in the 604 area code, and calling a 604 local number, you will not be charged LD. In the same situation, if your call is to a 416 number, you WILL be charged LD.

Receiving a call: The charge is determined by your local area. If you receive a call outside of your local calling area, you will be charged LD.
eg: You have a 514 number, and travel in a 613 area. Someone from Ottawa calls you, gets charged LD since calling from 613 to 514 is LD, and you also get charged LD since you're out of your local area.

Fowarding a call : If you foward a call that is usually LD from your local calling area, you will be charged LD.
eg: you have a 306 number, you foward your call to a 250 number, you're charged LD.

***It is to be noted that all LD calls also involve regular airtime charges, and that all plans or VAS including free LD minutes, are not to be considered as airtime minutes, but only free LD minutes (meaning you don't pay the LD rate for those free LD minutes, but minutes from your airtime bundle are still being debited)***

Available options/plans:

Plan:
45$ - 350 weekday/unl WE/250 LD minutes

VAS:
5$/100 LD minutes.
10$/250 LD minutes
25$850 LD minutes

Note that these options cannot be added to the 45$ plan. You cannot add more LD minutes to a plan that already includes LD minutes.

Q. Why does Fido sell phones with the 850 mhz frequency?

A. They sell these phones for use with their roaming partners in Panama, Ecuador, and Colombia that use 850 only networks, as well as Cingular and AT&T in the United States that use 850/1900 networks.

And no, Fido does not operate any towers at 850 mhz.

The new Fido plan has generated a lot of questions.

Here are the basics:
What you get:
-100 week-day minutes (8am to 7pm)
-1000 evenings & week-end minutes
-unlimited incoming calls within Fido's digital area (LD charges will also apply if you are outside your local calling area)
-You get all services that come standard with the plans (call foward, call waiting, call conferencing, etc)

You don't have to go on a Fido agreement to get it.
It's possible, however, to benefit from the 3 months unlimited local calling with the Fido agreement.

You may add any optional service you want.
This plan is available since thursday, june the 10th. It is available for a "limited" time, although it offers "UNlimited incoming calls"

The plan is not replacing the current 25$ F2F plan, although it lokks really similar. And the first 6 months at 20$ are just on the F2F plan, not the new free incoming calls plan, which is already underpriced IMO.

Have a nice day chatting on your Fido

Q: Why whenever I call FIDO and talk to a CSR, I usually hear more than one answer to sometimes straight-forward questions about issues involving rate plans, new promotions, hardware upgrade, warrenty, etc? Does FIDO change their policies this often so quick?

A: No, FIDO does not change their policies as quickly as it may seem. According to the HOFO's resident FIDO expert, WHO, FIDO CSRs are rarely bright or focused because good CSRs usually end up realizing they're worth much more than being a simple CSR. In other words, you most likely spoke to a clueless CSR who unintentionally provided false information, even though he/she spoke with the confidence to come across believable. So don't count on what CSRs say 100%. Always triple-check to be sure what your CSR told you is actually valid. It will save you the headache, time and/or money in the event that you actually find out the truth.

Q: So if a FIDO CSR unitentionally provides false information, will FIDO own up to it and compensate for the mistake?

A: Not always. So proceed with caution.

A customer always has the option of transferring an account to someone else name on a monthly plan (agreement or not) or a prepaid service.
On monthly:
-The original account holder has to contact Fido CS and let them know about the change. They will put the person name (new account holder) on the account to confirm that he has authorization. It is preferable to have some type of info on that person so CS can identify them.
Concerning the plan that was on the account it can only be transfered if it's still available and offered by Fido.. No exception can be made in this case because the plan is no longer in the computer.
The phone number remains the same except if the new user requests a change of phone number and in this case it's free of charge.
- On prepaid, the account holder simply has to call CS to let them know

How does it work?

Write your text message in the exact same way you would write a text message to a mobile phone (maximum 160 characters).
Enter the recipient’s 10-digit landline number.
Send!
The recipient’s phone will ring and when it is answered, your text message will automatically be read. At the end of the message, the recipient will be given the option of replying to the message by recording a voice message.
You will then receive a text message telling you that you’ve received a reply. To listen to it, call the toll-free number that appears in the text message.

How much does it cost?

Until May 3, sending a text-to-home-phone message is the same price as sending a text message to a mobile phone! From May 3, each text-to-home-phone message will cost you the price of one text message (15¢ per message or less if you subscribe to a text message option), plus a 25¢ premium text message charge. Airtime charges apply when you call the toll-free number to listen to your reply messages. Receiving a text-to-home-phone message is free. There is no charge to the recipient for receiving or replying to your messages.

If the recipient has not answered after our three attempts, or if the number you entered is not valid or is a fax number, you’ll be charged the price of a regular text message (15¢ per message or less if you subscribe to a text message option).
=3$ 50 sms, 5$ 100 sms, 10$ 1000 sms

The 10$ plan allows you to keep all the privileges of being on a FIDO monthly plan (some of advantages include billing per second, free call fowarding [1000 minutes], ability to add value added services like CD, VM, SMS, GPRS, etc, and also the ability ro roam *IF* your credit rating allows it)
There are no included minutes, but you pay only 0.15$/min if you use the phone

The rate has been changed to .30$/min

Samsung X426 GSM phones will not work with SM32 sim cards, it causes the error "SIM CRASH". I have heard that customers with M32 (discontinued) have been able to use these phones.

The x426 also comes with software tweaked in favour of the carrier that releases the phone, fido never carried such phone so you wont see software being made to fix that issue cus fido never carried such phone in their lineup.

As of august 3rd 2005, the rate will go up from 0.10 per min to 0.20 per min

Posted by: didouche

It is now possible to reach Customer service for prepaid customers at the following phone number:

Starting August 16, 2005, all incoming calls will still be charged at a single fixed rate per minute. However, rates will no longer be determined according to countries and roaming partners, but according to the area in which you're located. The rates for international calls made while roaming will be based on the International roaming zones. To find out the rates, you must know the zone of the country you'll be visiting and the zone you'll be calling.

Outgoing calls

Incoming calls In-country calls Calls to Canada/US
Zone 1 $1.00 $1.00 $2.00

Zone 2 $2.00 $1.00 $2.50

Zone 3 $2.50 $1.50 $3.50

Zone 4 $2.50 $1.50 $4.50

Zone 5 $3.50 $2.00 $9.00

The rest of the rates are available on www.fido.ca
exact link: http://www.fido.ca/portal/packages/...p?lang=en#rates

Important: When you roam internationally, calls left in your Voice Messaging and other forwarded calls will be charged for two portions: the incoming call portion according to the country you are in and the outgoing call portion according to the network on which you are roaming. These charges may apply if you don't answer a call, have left the network coverage area, or have switched off your handset. To minimize or eliminate such charges, Fido recommends that you familiarize yourself with the difference between "conditional" and "unconditional" call forwarding and how charges apply to each while roaming. For more information, click on Call Forwarding FAQ. To save on call forwarding charges while roaming, program your Fido to forward "all" calls (unconditional call forwarding) to your Voice Messaging service when you don't need to answer your calls. Don't forget, however, to re-program your Fido to forward calls "when unavailable" (conditional call forwarding) when you're ready to answer your calls again. You can also "cancel all" call forwarding, and your Fido will simply keep ringing if you don't answer, but the unanswered calls will not go to your Voice Messaging service

As of August 3rd, all Fido customers (including Prepaid, Cityfido and Canada unlimited subscribers) will have access to the Expanded network on a pay per use basis at 0.25$ per min billed by the second. Minutes from a plan will not be deducted from a customer plan.

For customers on regular monthly plans except CityFido, Canada Unlimited will be able to get the 5$ Unlimited access to the Expanded Network. People on agreement already have that option for free for the duration of their agreement.

In order to know if u are in the Expanded Network u can dial on your phone the *#123#

I was able to do this with a friend of mine who was on contract, and I was on a month-to-month service.

This may not be capable for everyone as each CSR's abilities may vary, but here is what I accomplished:

- took ownership of my friend's plan
- kept my number
- kept my plan
- Fido dollars from both accounts merged together

The downfall of the merge did force me to use my friend's SIM card as it was linked to his account (and my SIM was terminated). Once a SIM has been deactivated there is no way to re-activate it.

Enjoy.

You can terminate your Fido Agreement at any time. However, you will be required to pay an early termination fee corresponding to $20 multiplied by the number of months remaining in the Fido Agreement, up to a maximum of $200 per deactivated phone number. For the purposes of calculating the early termination fee, a month corresponds to a calendar month.

You can terminate your Fido Agreement within the 15-day satisfaction guarantee period, without paying a penalty.

Q. What is a Retentions plan?
A Retentions plan is a discounted or special plan offered to Fido customers who want to cancel their services with Fido.

Q. Does Fido offer Retentions plans?
Yes, they do.

Q. What are the Retention plans that Fido offers?
Fido offers three different Retentions plans. They are as follows:

$10 Retentions Plan
- No minutes included
- Additional minutes @ $0.30/min billed by the second
- SAF included
- Not available on agreement

$15 Retentions Plan
- 50 daytime minutes billed by the second
- Voice Mail included
- SAF included
- Not available on agreement

$20 Retentions Plan
- 100 daytime minutes billed by the second
- Unlimited evening and weekends
- SAF not included
- Available on agreement

Q. Am I eligible for a Retentions plan?
To be eligible for a Retentions plan, you must be a Fido monthly customer for at least 3 months. Prepaid users are not eligible for Retentions plans.

Q. How can I go on a Retentions plan?
Retentions plans are usually only offered to you by a Fido Retentions representative when you want to cancel your services with Fido. The plans are a sort of "last ditch effort" to retain you as a Fido customer. However, you can always try your luck by phoning Fido Customer Service or Fido Retentions and requesting to be put on a Retentions plan.

Q. How do I contact Fido Customer Service or Fido Retentions?
Fido Customer Service Line: 1-888-481-3436
Fido Retentions Line: 1-888-259-3436

Q. Can I get a Fido Agreement with a Retentions plan?
A customer can only go on a Fido Agreement with a monthly plan costing at least $20. Therefore, the $10 and $15 Retentions plans are not eligible for a Fido Agreement, but the $20 Retentions plan is.

Q. If I go on a Fido Agreement with the $20 Retentions plan, am I eligible for a handset at the Fido Agreement discounted price?
Yes. Any customer who signs a new Fido Agreement is eligible for a handset at the Fido Agreement discounted price. For current handsets, please visit http://www.fido.ca.

Q. Can I add additional features to Retentions plans?
Like any normal Fido monthly plan, you can add options (call display, data plan, long distance plan, etc.).

Q. Will I be offered any other freebies when I go on a Retentions plan?
Since Retentions plans are offered as a “last ditch effort” to retain you as a Fido customer, you maybe offered other incentives and freebies. It really depends on the Fido Retentions representative you talk to and also on your account status.

Q. Am I billed any differently on a Retentions plan than on a normal monthly plan?
No, you are not. You will be billed once per month according to your billing cycle.

Q. What is the difference between Classic City Fido and the City Fido offered by Fido now?
The major difference is that Classic City Fido was an unlimited incoming/outgoing minutes plan for $40/$45 (SAF fee included). While the City Fido now only gives 750/1500 incoming/outgoing minutes for $45/$65. The SAF fee is also included in this price. The other difference is the basic coverage area (See next Question).

Q. What is the difference between the Classic City Fido coverage area and the current City Fido coverage area?
The Classic City Fido basic coverage area is larger than the current City Fido basic coverage area. See below for detailed maps:
City Fido Montreal
Classic:

Current:

City Fido Toronto
Classic:

Current:

City Fido Vancouver
Classic:

Current:

Q. Am I still able to sign up for a Classic City Fido account?
No, the Classic City Fido plan has been discontinued. Those who still have the plan have it honoured by Fido through grandfathering.

Q. Is there any other way for me to get hold of a Classic City Fido account?
Yes, you can still get hold of a Classic City Fido account by doing a TOR (transfer of responsibility) with someone who has the Classic City Fido plan grandfathered. In other words, that other person is giving up their Fido account and you are taking over as the new account owner. (Everything is transferred including the cellphone number of the original owner and any options attached to the Classic City Fido plan)

Q. If I am currently on agreement with a grandfathered Classic City Fido plan, what happens when it is time for me to renew my contract?
When it is time to renew your contract (you'll receive a letter from Fido about 2-3 months prior to your contract expiration), you can renew your agreement and keep all the benefits of your Classic City Fido plan.
However, when you renew, you are not eligible for both an agreement priced handset and having the SAF included in your price plan. You have to choose one or the other. The only exception is for multi-line account holders. They are able to keep the SAF included in their price plan and still get an agreement priced handset.
*This response also applies to the renewal of grandfathered Country Fido plan ($70 Unlimited Calls Anywhere in Canada plan)

Q. What if I don't want to renew my grandfathered Classic City Fido agreement when it is time for me to renew?
Your plan will still be grandfathered and you'll be switched to month to month. However, the $6.95 SAF fee will no longer be included in your price plan.

Q. If I am on a grandfathered Classic City Fido plan, what happens if I want to change my cell phone plan?
You can change to any current plan offered by Fido at anytime. However, once you switch off the Classic City Fido Plan, you won't be able to get it back.

What are the actual boundaries (exact to the street) of the FiDo basic network in the Greater Toronto Area? In other words, when the call placed in this area there aren't any long distance charges.
Thank you

Q. How do I check my voicemail from my Fido Handset?
To check your voicemail on my Fido handset, you need to dial your local voicemail access number. There are several ways to do this:
1) Dial the actual voicemail access number of your city.
2) Dial "3436" (FIDO) on your handset.
3) Dial "1" on your handset if your phone is a Fido branded phone or if you have set your the default voicemail access number of your handset to your local voicemail access number.
After this, the automated voicemail system will request your PIN. Enter it followed by the "#" key.

Q. How do I check my voicemail from a landline?
To check your voicemail from a landline, you must dial the local voicemail access number of your city. Once connected, enter your ten-digit Fido phone number followed by the "#" key. When you hear your greeting message, press the "*" key. You'll be prompted for your PIN. Enter it, followed by the "#" key.

Q. What is my local voicemail access number?

Q. I am a new Fido customer, what is my default voicemail PIN?
Your default PIN is a 4 digit number constructed from the date of your activation. The first two digits is derived from the month and the last two digits from the date. (ex. January 1 = 0101) You can change this PIN after your first log-in to Fido's Voicemail Retrieval system.

Q. What are the codes for managing the messages in my voicemail?
After dialing your local voicemail access number and logging in, there are several choices at the main menu:
Quote:
1 = Listen
2 = Send
3 = Modify Options
0 = Help
During the playback of a message, you can use the following codes:
Quote:
1 = Rewind 8 seconds
11 = Rewind to the start of the message
111 = Return to start of the previous message
2 = Pause/continue
3 = Fast-forward 8 seconds
33 = Fast-forward to to end of the message
77 = Erase the message during playback
After the playback of a message, you have the following options:
Quote:
5 = Display caller's number, the time of the call, and the date of the call
7 = Erase the message
9 = Save the message
Q. How long are messages kept in my voicemail?
Voice messages can be kept in your voicemail inbox for 30 days. After 30 days, you will receive a reminder when you access your Voice Messaging. It will remind you that you have had messages in your box for 30 days and give you the choice of saving or deleting these messages.

Q. How many messages can I have in my voicemail inbox?
You are allowed to have a maximum of 50 messages at any one time in your voicemail inbox. If you exceed 50 messages, you will be prompted to delete saved messages so as to free up space in your inbox to recieve new messages.

Q. How do I set the time delay before a call is transfered to my voicemail?
To change the time delay before a call is transferred to your voicemail, you have to dial a string of numbers on your handset. The string is [Function][Type]*[Phone Number]**[Time]#. Please see below for possible choices to substitute for [Function], [Type], & [Time]:
Quote:
[Function]
* = activate
** = register and activate
*# = check status
# = unregister
## = unregister and deactivate

[Type]
21 = Forward All Calls
67 = Forward if Busy
61 = Forward if Not Answered
62 = Forward if Out of Reach
002 = Perform All 4 Forwards (Above)
004 = Perform All Conditional Forwards

[Time]
Valid only in increments of 5 seconds up to 30 seconds. (i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30)
(ex. To forward calls to my voicemail with a 25 seconds time delay, I would dial the string: "**61*3436**25#")

Q. How do I setup my voicemail so that my PIN is automatically entered when I dial my local voicemail access number?
To do this, you must program a pause ("p") and your PIN into the voicemail access number of your handset. Depending on the brand of your phone, there will be different ways to enter a "p". Please see below:
Quote:
Sony Ericsson = Press and hold the "*" key (To program a "p" in the address book, press and hold the "7" key)
Nokia = Press the "*" key 3 times.
Motorola = Press and hold the "*" key.
Panasonic = Press and hold the "0" key.
Siemens = Press and hold the "0" key.
LG = Selected from the menu [A capital P = hard pause; A capital T = soft 2-second pause]
(ex. To have my PIN automatically entered given that my PIN is 0101, I would program my default voicemail access number to: "3436p0101")
Note: This can also be useful for programming extension numbers into your phonebook

For this plan, there is a 10 cents/min charge for CF, and you can not use the 50 anytime min for the CF. In other words, CF will cost you $.

For the longest I have had wap.fido.ca as my APN and have used the Fido Prepaid service for Free GPRS. I had VNC, ssh, Instant messengers (agile messenger) going sometimes all at the same time. As long as I had 2 cents in my Prepaid account I could access the 'net. Lately ( 2 days ago) I reset my phone and now im being charged up the a$$ for GPRS. Needless to say I have not used the 'net for a while. Have thte settings changed or has Fido terminated the FREE GPRS with prepaid?

I live in Vancouver, and I've been thinking of moving to Rogers. I just noticed that I could opt to go for a retention plan, and I have a few questions.

For the $20 Retention plan, do I have to sign a fido agreement to be able to go on that plan?
And do you think I would be able to get them to agree to let me add 100 txt msg option for $5? I want to be able to keep the bill at the same amount, but if I can't then I'm probably gonna go to Rogers to get their 2500 msgs

Posted by: Pepsi Man

retention plans are for ppl who want to cancel only. There not there for ppl to abuse.

Has anyone been able to negotiate to keep the expanded network for free with their agreement renewal?

How do I ensure my calls are forwarded to my Voice Messaging service when I am in Canada or roaming in the U.S. or abroad?

Make sure that your Call Forwarding selection (forward when "unavailable" or forward "all calls") is set to forward calls to 3436 (FIDO) or to your Voice Messaging service deposit number as indicated below. Always make sure you precede the number by the "+" symbol and "1" when you program the Voice Messaging deposit number on your Fido.

Does this still apply? I have a multi-line account and I was on the phone with fido today to renew and they told me even though I have a multi-line account with my CountryFido (its a corporate account) I cant renew my contract, get a new phone @ contract price, and keep my SAF
The lady told me I could either 1) renew my contract for another 2 years and keep my SAF or 2) renew for 3 yrs get a new phone @ cotnract price and start paying the SAF
I have to renew today too!
what to do what to do???? and; is it true is it true??? (or was she just wrong)

Posted by: didouche

Customer is a Cityfido Unlimited or Canada unlimited plan in a renewal situation:

I pay the SAF ( single line account or multi sub account)= u are eligible to get a phone at the agreement price

I don't pay the SAF and I have one line on my account= u can renew to keep your plan at the same price. No phone at agreement price. Only with Fido$$

I don't pay the SAF and I have 2 lines or more ( whatever plan it is)= renew, keep the SAF and get a phone at the agreement price.

Anybody that says any different doesn't know what they are talking about and plz ask to speak with a supervisor ( even a call back if necessary because supervisors are not always available) so they can coach those agents that still assume that all cityfido customers are not eligible to anything.
Also u can advise the rep to look in the loyalty order form instead of looking at their Vision 21 screen and maybe check their procedures. Note the person's name down so they can be coached on this because i'm tired of customers getting the run around still on this issue

That's what I do

If I have the 16 value pack can i log onto msn via the "im" on my Fido branded phone and not be charged?

No. Your value pack allows you to send 2,500 Instant messages via the "im" program on your Fido phone.

I have a unlocked/unbranded phone, can I use the Fido Im program with my $16 Value pack ?

Yes! The server doesn't know which phone your using or cares. If the program is installed successfully on your phone , then you can use it to use Msn/Yahoo on your cell and it will come out of you 2,500 sent messages in the $16 Value pack.

The smart-phone Im Version isn't connecting and giving me communication errors..How can I get it to connect ?

First start it up and when it asks which connection, choose the wap.fido.ca one, then it'll sit there at the signing on screen. press cancel and wait a while for it to sign out, then press sign in again. the screen will freeze and sign out again. then finally if u press sign in it should work.

Availability and validity period of FidoDollars.

Accumulated FidoDollars become available for redemption by the participant at the start of the billing cycle that follows the billing cycle when their FidoDollars were awarded. FidoDollars are valid for a period of four (4) years starting the day they become available, unless Fido has terminated Fido Rewards before the end of this period, the participant has terminated their participation in the program, or their participation has been terminated by Fido for whatever reason. As soon as a Fido customer's participation is terminated for whatever reason, their FidoDollars are revoked on the day their participation is terminated and cannot be used
