Sanyo 4900 no 4-digit dialing?!

I bought a Sanyo 4900 after having a Sanyo SCP-4000 for a number of years. Anyhow, I like everything so far except it seems Sanyo did away with the 4-digit dialing.

I used that feature extensively on my old phone. It is much easier for me to remember the last 4-digits of a person's phone number than scroll through the phone entries.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for the information, but I am not presented with this option.

If I dial the last four digits of a phone number I have stored, hit menu, I am shown:

Options:
Call
Call: Speaker On
Save Phone#
Find
Hard Pause
2-Second Pause
Hyphen

Abbreviated dialing has to be enabled
on the Settings menu, it's under Others

No no, I do not want "abreviated dialing." That is different....

I think it means if you work in an office that uses one root phone number, you can dial multiple extensions and have the phone use the rest.

For example, Let's say your office is (800) 555-0001. Your buddy is (800) 555-0002.

You can dial yourself by hitting 0001, and him by 0002 after progamming in the root of 800-555-xxxx.

I'm talking about 4-digit dial which lets you dial the last for digits of ANY phone number stored in your phone book, and the phone automatically calls....

On my Samsung u can dial any 4 digits of the phone number and it'll dial it or show u the entries if there are more than 1 match. I think u 2 are describing the same thing two different ways. "Abbreviated dialing" as it's called on Sanyos, is the same as 4-digit dial. It doesn't matter if you're in an office or whatever...if it's in your phone book and it finds a match it should just dial it. But then again I have a Samsung....

Okay, I think you both are right. It just depends how you set up Abbreviated dial in the setup.

If you enter in a 6 digit areacode+prefix, such as 800-555, the phone will insert this into the beginning of any 4 digits you abbrev. dial. For example, as in my previous post, dialing 0001, MENU, Abbrev.Dial, will dial 800-555-0001.

However, if you erase the 800-555 from the Abbrev. Dial enable option, now the phone will search the phone book for any number matching those last 4 digits. If there was a 329-434-0001 in there, and you dial 0001, MENU, Abbrev. Dial, you would be connected to 329-434-0001.

In my opinion the extra step of selecting Abbrev. Dial should be eliminated if firmware updates are possible. It does not make much sense to be able to dial a 4 digit number in the USA. The old Sanyo SCP-4000 executed 4-digit dial just as I would like.

I wonder if there is a way to voice my opinion to Sanyo?

Thanks everyone for the help.
