Has anyone been able to maintain the high data speeds in the 5150 like they were saying when sprint was still testing their new network while only using minutes from their ww plan?

All the time.. I set mine to 144k long ago (in fact I think I'm the first one that posted it as being tested in usenet.) and I've been using it since. I've been in Dallas, Houston, Memphis, Little Rock, Nashville, Louisville. All worked.

how exactly did you change your data rate to 144?

I have mine set on the 144K Packet too. Is it any faster???? No it isn't, so it really doesn't matter what you have it set on.

Actually yes, it is, depending on your area.
Use the connector software to test with a laptop on some benchmarking site such as dslreports.com You'll see the difference. The main slow spot is latency.

Well it shouldn't be much of an increase, since the fastest a serial port can transfer is 19200. That's why the newer Vision phones have a USB cable.

Maybe if you're working on a computer from the late 80's.
Even my 386 could transfer 115200, newer serial ports can transfer in excess of that depending on your chipset.

so how exactly do you set it to 144kbps?
If I want to keep my existing plan with wireless web but would like a newer phone, is this the one to get?
The ones I'm considering are:
-LG 5250
-LG 5350 (if I decide to lose my wireless web, sob..sob..and go with an expensive vision plan)
-Sanyo 5150
-Used Startac (cheapest, but I would rather not use this old phone)
How is the screen outdoors? The A500 washes out. The LG 5350's seems readable, atleast, in direct sunlight
How is the Sanyo's?
