Sidekick Hotkeys/Shortcuts/Tips!

Well, i love my sidekick for all it can do.. but.. to really use it efficiently, one must know some of the cool and useful hotkey combinations in the user manual and ones that aren't in the manual...
:-)

1. Fullscreen Webbrowsing
Open the Sidekick Webbrowser.

Hold these three buttons and let go:
MENU + SHIFT + T

to get the status bar back, just hold the same three buttons together and let go.

At the Jump screen:

2. Look up phone number/contact:
Hold and let go: Menu + Space

3. Turn the sidekick into a mirror (ie blank the screen)
Hold and let go: Menu + Shift + M, Back or Jump will bring screen back.

4. To Soft Reset your sidekick:
Hold: 1 + @ + 0

5. To view your sidekick's IP Address, network status, packets info
at the Jump screen: hit Menu > Network Status.
Then Hold: MENU + M to bring up your ip address and other network info

6. Snowboarding Game (hidden)
at the Jump screen, hit Menu > Settings > About Sidekick
once your at the about screen, hold: Menu + Shift + 8 to get the old school snowboarind game.
Spacebar jumps!

7. Email Hotkeys (listed in user manual):

New Email: Menu + N
Check Email: Menu + U
Reply to Email Message: Menu + R
Forward Email Message: Menu + J
Add as a contact: Menu + @
Move message: Menu + O , then choose folder

8. Rounded Top Status Bar on Jump Menu

At the jump menu, just hold these THREE buttons and let go:
MENU + SHIFT + T

to get the squared off top status bar back, hold and release the three buttons

Hope those help you out like they do me.. hehe..

Here's another one:

While in a convo on AIM, hit Menu+ M and it automatically copys your whole conversation to an email. Which you can email to yourself and save for later reference. I used that to get these....

if you're asking if you can have multiple AIM conversations, yes you can. and it's quite easy to switch from one conversation to another

Im talking about the chatrooms you can goto with SK1.

yes!
its called hipcontac...

it lets you chat with other hiptop/sidekick users.. i do believe there are chat rooms too.. i haven't checked it out yet but will soon...

but i think in aim there's a way..

for chat rooms in AIM you press menu+j and they a chat room option come out and you just have to type in the name of the room.

Shift+ arrows - highlights the text
Menu + C - copys
Menu + V - pastes
Menu + A - selects all
Menu + N - makes new of what ever
Menu + T - trash

Menu -> settings -> About Sidekick: MENU+SHIFT+8 - Snowboarding game.

Menu -> network: MENU+M - Shows network info.

Menu -> settings -> System Info: MENU+SHIFT+X - Erase flash settings.

searched but couldnt find it...but where could i get a list of chat rooms to join from my skII?

You can copy conversation in aim and paste into notes but the email thing sounds easier. Good for jotting info down.
Learn something new everyday..

About the chatrooms. Check hiptop.com and do a search. There are several.
One I remember is 'dangersidekick' which supposed to be used for questions about the sidekick only.
If anybody knows a good one post up.

Theres a whole under the Screen with a arrow, get a paperclip press it in while holding the power button, your sidekick will vibrate and restart

this is an awesome feature, the best part is it does not turn off unless you turn the sk2 off, or the battery dies. Gives you just a little bit more to view.

You can zoom in on your pictures by pressing and holding Menu + W while viewing images in full screen mode.

Hidden Features
Go to the System Info via Jump -> Menu -> Settings -> System Info. The following features can now be accessed by pressing the specified key combinations:

Menu + Shift + A — access the APN (Access Point Name) (Does not work with Hiptop2)
Menu + Shift + D — enter diagnostic mode
Menu + Shift + N — display DNS settings (Does not seem to work with Hiptop2)
Menu + Shift + R — erase sign-in information
Menu + Shift + U — display username/password dialog (purpose unknown)
Menu + Shift + W — clear browser cache
Menu + Shift + X — erase flash settings
Menu + Alt + M — extended system info (Hiptop2 only) - Menu + Sym + M does the same
Other hidden features discovered so far:

Jump -> Menu -> Settings -> About Device -> Menu + Shift + 8 — game called "Snowbored"
@ + 1 + 0 — Soft reset
From the Jump screen:
Menu + Shift + F — directional pad lights up with white LED, like a flashlight. Pressing the key combination again will turn the light off. Use simply Menu-F on the Jump screen with the Hiptop2 (no pressing the Shift button at the same time).
Menu + Shift + M — turns on all screen pixels, lit black. Allows the screen to be used as a 'ghetto mirror'. Note, although it looks darkish, in fact it is using the battery to accomplish this. Turn the 'mirror' off with the Jump button.
Camera Gallery:
Menu + D — Thumbnail/Full-screen toggle
Menu + W — Picture zoom
Web Browser:
Menu + Shift + B — Recent Pages (Menu + Alt +B does the same)
Menu + Shift + T — causes the title bar to disappear, allowing full-screen browsing. Press the key combination again to bring the title bar back.
Terminal
Menu + Shift + R — inverts terminal colors (white-on-black is default - black-on-white is easier to read)
In Yahoo! Messenger:
From buddy screen:
Menu + Shift + C — 'Manual config entry' (unsure as to what this can do)
Menu + Shift + I — 'Set idle timeout'
Menu + J — Join a chat room (manual entry field)
In a conversation:
Menu + M — copy conversation to email
In AIM:
From buddy screen:
Menu + Shift + I — 'Set idle timeout'
Menu + J — Join a chat room (manual entry field)
In a conversation:
Menu + M — copy conversation to email
