L1400 Software

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Does anyone know of any software to use with the l1400 phone. I tried the USB cable for my 1200 with the L1100 software. It downloads music tones, but will not upload files to this phone.

Thanks,

Rich

When I was using infrared with my L1200, I was able to upload everything but java games. I don't have a datacable though.

I too have been having this problem. I have been able to successfully update my phonebook and upload ringtones and pictures to my phone, but I have not been able to retrieve pictures from the phone or upload Java Games to the phone.

I am using the FutureDial Data Cable and the PL-2303 USB Drivers with the L1100 software. I would love to hear from anyone with that has had success getting this to work with any software.

Posted by: devcingular

I have been able to upload/download photos to the phone without a problem. I'm using the L1100 software (from the UK LG site) with a datacable that came with the DataPilot software suite.

One thing to make sure is that you have the right baudrate set for the phone. I tried 115200 and had problems connecting. Using 57600 was a lot more reliable.

Remember that there is a seperate function for download photos to the phone versus retrieving photos from the phone. To retrieve photos, you click on the icon of a camera. To transfer pictures to the phone, you have to click on the paintbrush/pallete icon.

No trouble transferring the ringtones that came with the L1100 software.

Posted by: amadeus_m

I've installed the 1100 software as well as the Ircomm2k driver, and have mixed results. PC Sync can read the phone's contacts, and my Outlook 2002 contacts, but can't transfer contacts from the PC to the L1400. I recieve a "write error". Oddly, if I try to enter a new contact via PC sync, it does write to the phone sucessfully. I was also able to transfer a calendar entry successfully.

I called LG support, and they want to sell me third party software???

Anyone else able to transfer from Outlook to the L1400 successfully? This is the most important function for me. Overall, it's a pretty nice phone, but I think LG needs to take a lesson from Nokia. I have the 6800 as well, and the software that's provided by Nokia at no charge. Their package works flawlessly, and syncs with Outlook without a hitch!

Posted by: jadavison

Thanks for the tip devcingular. I will have to go back to the L1100 software, I tried the G7050 because some others on the forum had success with this package, but I had the same problems. When I try to transfer pix I get error code CEM-3 which apparently means my phone doesn't understand the command. I will try with the L1100 and 57600 baud rate.

where on the UK site did you find the software, and is it the same as the one from the USA site? I got the US version but maybe the UK version is different? Lg's site seems to suck pretty bad when it comes to looking for software like that. Also, what usb drivers are you using? I would really like to get this to work for me.

I am using the UK version and it still does not work... but i am using IR not a usb cable.

Posted by: HF1111

I also am getting the CEM-3 error when trying to transfer pictures onto my computer through IR, it shows all the names of the pics on my phone it just wont transfer.

So are you using the L1100 cable? I looked at the DataPilot website and it looks like they have a cable for the L1400 (maybe it's just the same one?). I'd definitely like to pick up one of these if this is going to work.

Posted by: useless

they sell the datapilot kit here at compusa for 49.99. I'm thinkin about picking it up just to try it out.

Posted by: amadeus_m

A response from the company that produces the Datapilot sofware, clarified that they do not support calender sync.

It is however supposed to sync the contact list, allow ringtone upload, and image upload. Unfortunately, it does not claim to allow image download.

Very dissapointing on the lack of calendar sync. This is a feature from my old Nokia 6800 that I'll find it hard to do without. Also a shame on the lack of image download.

Where can I find the PL-2303 USB Drivers ? I just bought that FutureDial cable, but no drivers are with it.

well for me i'll be patient nad just wait for the actual software specifically made for the L1400.

i'll just have a bad headache finding ways on how to extract pics from my phone.

devcingular, can you confirm without a doubt that you can grab pics off of the L1400 using the datapilot usb datacable? before i spend 35 bucks on this specific cable i would like to know if it will work any different than a 12 dollar generic cable.

thanks!

from what i can see on thier website the LG #2 Connector DPA-CV1 is 14.95 and to get it to connect you also have to buy the other end of the cable which is the USB to PC Connector DPA-CVA and that is priced at 19.95. $35 not including s&h

Go to the store then? I bought a data cable, the data pilot one, nothing else, for 20.

do you have a l1400? if so can you get pics off of the camera with the datapilot data cable?

same question here.....if someone confirms it 100% I will go out and buy the datapilot kit and keep the phone. If no one can confirm it the phone is going back as fast as I can send it!!

Nobody can get pics off the phone, I can't even download SuperTones cus the software I guess.

Devcingular posted this: "I have been able to upload/download photos to the phone without a problem. I'm using the L1100 software (from the UK LG site) with a datacable that came with the DataPilot software suite. "

He seems to be saying that he can get the pics off the phone. We're just trying to verify this.

Posted by: amadeus_m

I've been able to transfer pics to the phone with the L1100 sofware, but it returns a CME-3 error when I try to download images from the phone.

The Datapilot site seems to indicate that their sofware can't download images from the phone either. Only upload.

This would not appear to be a limitation in their software, as it can download images from other phones such as the Motorla V400.

If this is a hardware limitation, that would be a shame. The only possible motivation for this I could imagine, would be so that the carrier could charge you for a mms transfer.

Posted by: useless

Yep...that's why I'm curious if devcingular is really able to do it or if he was mistaken and can only upload to the phone but not download from it.

Still waiting for confirmation....

Foladar,

Are you saying you are unable to transfer .mmf ringtones TO your phone?

Also, What kinds of cables are everyone using? Do they have the little converter boxes in them?

devcingular seems to be MIA =/

I am able to ONLY transfer .mmf's - but they must be under 25kb in size (or 23kb, not exactly sure but around that)
My cable was from radioshack, has a mini box.

Hey all you guys that have data cables for your l1400...

l1200 people seemed to have some success using the 7050 software spoken about in
this thread.

They claim they can get pics OFF the phone... anyone want to give it a shot? (then again, they can also get pics off with the 1100 software)

what a day to forget my phone at home... i am going to try this using IR tomorrow. I'll let everyone know the results

Posted by: useless

too much trouble to get such a basic function to work....

I have a moto V400 on the way and as soon as it get here I'm sending back the LG as fast as the scud missile I'm gonna strap it on will fly.

A cell phone is one gadget that I just want to "work" when I use it. If cellphone hacking and modding was a hobby for me maybe I would deal with the hassle, but I need it to just work.

I'd be willing to give it a try, but the link provided in the thread above doesn't seem to lead directly to the software download. Most of the site is in Russian, and I've no clue.

If anybody finds a direct link, I'd be glad to give it a try.

I'll give this phone a bit more chance, as the unit itself is not bad. However, I may go with the V400 like Useless above if no resolution can be found.

Both Nokia and Motorola offer better customer and sofware support than does LG.

IMHO of course

The reason I'm switching to the moto right now instead of waiting is that I'm a new customer and have 2 weeks to exchange the phone. After the two weeks I would have to pay full price for the moto. If I was sure a solution would come out I would keep it, but I don't want to take that chance and then be stuck.

did you setup your account online? i did and they told me i had to send my current phone in then i had to order another one online once they had received the old one... that doesnt sound right. so did you setup online and if so what process did you go through for them to send you the new phone first?

thanks

Posted by: jayhovah

I was able to find the software from the russian site, click on "soft&Firmware" on the top blue menu (shouldnt be hard to spot, very little of this page is in english).

Then put "7050" in the search field, and click the grey button -- only one result should come up.. just click the grey button for that result and the download should start.

If anyone has trouble getting it I might be able to host it or something.

Jay

Posted by: jayhovah

Wait never mind that.. i unzipped it and it was some random file with an extension i couldnt place.

However, I was able to find the software on the LG world site... try this link:

http://www.lge.com/products/mobile/...50_English.exe&

If it doesnt work, then just go to www.lg.co.kr and go to products&services -> electronics -> telephone & mobile -> GSM phones -> PC program-> I believe you should find the software on page 4.

Posted by: useless

and here comes the question...

can you get the pics off the phone with it???

If so, can you give us the process you used?

well i am going to be trying it out (using IR) as soon as i get to work tomorrow. I'll post the results then

update: i downloaded the installs from the links that provided above. When i run the exe the installshield wizard looks like it was a install package that has nothing in it... it installs as "default" and in effect does not look like it installs anything at all. The L1100_English.exe software does the same thing to me and i have been using the L1100_UK_1 software. anyone else run into the same problem i have?

Thanks

Trying it now..

Update: It says something about I have a version on my PC and I need to uninstall it, so I did and it still doesn't work..same problem..no go for me :|

Anyone mind telling me how to get WAP to work? I got 1mb download now on my phone, how do I upload a ringtone and download it on my phone?? Plus, anyone know maximum file via WAP? (its 20kb on data cable sadly)

look in your add/remove programs for a program called "default"

Update: nevermind i figured it out... who ever made the install packages from LG is a *******... install the "Default" then browse to "C:\program files\your company name\G7050_English" then run the setup.exe that is in the folder

I have never used the WAP features sorry.. The LGGSM software for the G7050 looks EXACTLY like the software for the l1100... but the G7050 software is a slightly older version... it doesnt give me much hope that it will work but who knows. I have gone as far as i can today and I will post my findings tomorrow morning

I gathered from the other thread that the installer is all messed up.. apparently the first installer only unpacks the real installer -- so just put it in some temp director, and then browse to it and run the real one....good luck guys! Hopefully I will get a data cable soon.

WAP is primarily for browsing websites. You can definitely download via WAP, but I don't believe it's possible to upload with it.

The only other option is to email a picture as an MMS message. This'll cost you a quarter per email. Possibly data charges too. Not sure on that.

I suspect Cingular wants those quarters.

I just tried with the 7050 software. Same crap...CME-3 error.

This is F$cked.

Oh well, I'll stop my bitc*ing now since the V400 is on the way.

I'm still curious if anyone else manages to get it to work though. Even if someone figures it out, mine's still going back....it shouldn't be this much trouble.

Just my opinion but if you were considering switching to a v400, why not just do it? I mean, just the fact that we are having to jump through all kinds of hoops and test all kinds of software just to use the camera phone as a...well..as a camera phone (imagine that) tells me there's something wrong here. It should "just work".

Posted by: jayhovah

It seems more and more likely to me that this phone just got really castrated by cingular.

I wonder if it is possible to get the original firmware from LG global (pretty sure LG north america wouldnt give it to us).

I'll bet restoring this little guy back to the way LG had intended it to be would solve alot of the problems.

Can anyone tell me what the status of putting wallpaper/ringtones on the phone is? I had heard something about a 20kb maximum. Is this the same with both software?

Would I be able to place larger files on the phone using WAP?

To me, getting pictures off with a cable isnt that big of a deal, but i would like to atleast put a few custom ringtones on the phone.

i think that may be my next step... but how would you flash the firmware on a phone?.... i have made a couple custom ringtones and yes they have to be under 20kb and thats the limit afaik

Posted by: jayhovah

Id that 20k limited to the datacable? Or WAP also?

I have no idea how to flash the phone.. maybe if we oculd get ahold of a international LG rep they could get us the firmware and instructions to flash using the data cable.

I use IR to xfer stuff to my phone so i dont know about if there are limits specific to a data cable... my guess it would be a phone limitation. Right now i am downloading and installing and trying each english software that LG has on their global site... none have worked so far and one i could not test because the software did not support IR and i dont have a data cable.

you can find them everywhere ... ebay has some for cheap but i myself use a laptop with a IR port built in so i can not tell you how well the usb ir ports work

20kb limit blows....

i was trying to convert an mp3 to mmf for a ringtone, 20k is just under 5 seconds.

I am keeping this phone, but hopefully we will be getting some new firmware eventually.

Posted by: devcingular

Yes, I've been able to download photos from the phone to the computer with the DataPilot cable without a problem. Baudrate of 57600 using the COM4 Susteen Virtual COM port.

Sorry for the delay in replying, btw. Been busy with other stuff lately.

20kb limit seems on the data cable/software..I used WAP and can get a file as large as 62kb

Posted by: HF1111

hey devcingular, isthis what your usin to get pictures from the phone?

Posted by: devcingular

I was wrong. I am *not* able to upload pictures from the L1400 phone to the computer using the L1100 software. I thought I had successfully done that with the L1400 when in fact it was the L1200 that I had downloaded photos from. A really stupid mistake on my part and I apologize if I misled anyone. It appears that only the L1200 can upload pictures to the computer using the L1100 software. Bummer.

I'm wondering if Cingular had LG remove the specific AT+ command that tells the phone to start uploading pictures to the computer in the hopes that you'll pay for MMS to get your photos. Either that or they changed the command slightly such that the L1100 software does provide the right syntax, or the data-stream sent back to the computer is different than what the L1100 software expects. The fact that the L1100 is able to see how many photos are available on the phone for downloading leads me to believe it's potentially a data-stream issue and not the incorrect AT+ command being sent. Unfortunately, I don't have a terminal program on my PC that will let me 'snoop' the serial connection while the software communicates with the phone.

However, the L1100 software from LG is not useless and will allow you to upload ringtones, graphics, and contacts to the L1400 phone as well as being able to download your contact list from the phone and save it to the computer. There's even an SMS/MMS composer that you can use.

The DataPilot software allows you to do the same as well. Their interface seems to be a bit cleaner than LG's, and offer better storage/synchronization options as well., but it may not be worth it to some people to spend the money for the software/cable when cheaper alternatives are available.

Again, my apologies for confusing the L1200 with the L1400 and posting the wrong info.

Posted by: useless

may you be smitten with an infestation of crotch crickets of biblical proportions for providing us with false information!!!!

That said, any updates from anyone else on getting pics off this thing? I've found that I actually like the phone better than the V400, but without being able to get the pics, it's useless!!!!

frustrating....I can't afford to keep both, but the one I like better won't do what it's supposed to!!! BAH!!!

Posted by: devcingular

mea culpa. mea culpa. :-)

i'd keep the L1400 and consider paying the MMS fee to Cingular to get the pics off of the phone. yeah, it royally bites that Cingular has us by the shorts when it comes to getting pics off of the phone. perhaps LG will release some new software in Europe that will once again let us download pics from the phone to the computer again.

it's too bad the AT+ command set for the phone (and the L1200) isn't publically documented anywhere. seeing which commands deal with download/upload for the phones would let us know if Cingular castrated the picture download function of the phone, or if the command just got changed.

it is possible for anybody (with the right cable) to connect to the phone using HyperTerminal in Windows. the phone ends up looking like a standard modem that uses AT commands.

here's a website that shows various phones and their AT+ command sets:

http://gatling.ikk.sztaki.hu/~kissg/gsm/at+c.html

I was just wondering, how long does it usually take for the phone hackers or whatever they are called to figure out how to make a phone (ie LG L1400) do what we all seem to want it to do? Seems most of us want picture transfer to PC. I personally bought the phone for my daughter, who will be going away to school, so she could send me pics in e-mails and such. I know she could send to me thru Cingular, but like someone said why pay them any more than they deserve. My moto V400 is able to do all of what we want the LG 1400 to do. Missed my opportunity to send it back before the time limit was up because of what I have been reading....Oh well I hope either those hacker geniuses or LG will come up with something real soon....my daughter leaves in a couple of months and I dont want to give her my V400!
