(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have got a Nokia 6230.

I want to transfer some mp3 files from my computer on to my phone. I have got a 256MB MMC card in my phone.

Should i buy a data cable or a Multimedia card reader??

if i get the data cable, will the mp3 files go onto the memory card??

cable. card is nice but you have to take out the battery and stuff. IMO, cable

I heard the bluetooth is nice. try the bluetooth connection. You can usually pick one up for 30-50$ It will plug into your usb port.

I've just got a 6230 today and to be honest I'm pretty much clueless about these things - can anyone recommend me a good card reader or data cable to use with my PC and where to get them from in the UK please?

bt is ok....kinda unrealible and expensive.....cards are fastest and cheapest...but taking battery out sux.......cable is cool but again unreliable......software sux for cables too.......cards are the #1...my opinion.

Does anyone know a good place to get card readers from in the UK?

Just check eBay, Expansys or Cellphoneshop.net for MMC/SD Card Reader/Writers.

ebay is the cheapest.

i got a card reader with 4 different card ports from maplins the other day for 20 quid and its fantastic

i use bluetooth, its awesome. i suggest u try a bluetooth usb adapter. they work super and u can connect to other devices as well, not only your phone

Posted by: cerver7

bluetooth is too new to be bug free and its not as fast as a reader.

I cant even get my bluetooth to work on my pc,nokia suite seems to be cack, anything else i can use?At the mo im just using the card reader to use mp3's and it works a treat, card readers rule the roost!!But obviously theres only so much memory on my data card and i would prefer to stick some stuff direct to my phones memory.

Posted by: cerver7

"rules the roost!!" that was DAM FUNNY :laughs: but i like it im gonna use that one lol

for using phone memory, upload to coolservice.dk and d/l thru wap!

Thanks lads (I'm getting a card reader).

Anyway I've only got the standard 32mb card installed at the moment and in time I'll get a 256mb or 512mb one (as soon as I figure out how to use it probably).

But what I was wondering is - most of the mp3's I have are 128kbs, which is decent quality, but if I reduced the quality to get more on the phone at the moment (even if it's just slightly) would that show much on the phone?

Basically I'm not sure about the quality the phone actually plays mp3's at, or if all you do is just bang the mp3's on the card and it plays them without any adjustment

^good call!

When you insert the card into the reader,it opens up in my computer as an extra drive so you just drag and drop onto the card just like you do on nero when burning a disc. Its very very easy and you can get on average about 7 mp3's and even set them as your ringtones and text messages which is fandabbydossie! The quality is excellent and you can listen to them via a bluetooth headset too.Dont know much about adjusting the quality to fit more on but i dont see the point really when you can just delete and insert at your pleasure matey.

why only 7 mp3's...?^

At the moment I was just wondering due to lack of space on the 32mb standard card, but hopefully I'll soon have a bigger one anyway.

Think he's just replying to me when I mentioned I only had a 32mb standard card at the moment

Posted by: chiffy

yes i was so there

Posted by: cerver7

....oh...lol....can the 6230 do aac's?

Posted by: chiffy

i dont know if its an american thing matey but tell me wot aac's are and i'll tell you if it can do them!!lol

Posted by: cerver7

lol...its an audio type like mp3...but much smaller and on cell phones, their is no quality change.

my 3300 does aac files and i doubled the amount of songs on my 128 card using that type.

finally bought my 6230!! yay.
funny thing is was i was browsing ebay for a DKU-2 cable and when i looked at my pc to see if i had any usb slots left i remembered my card readers, all dusty cuz no one ever uses them (the pc came with like 5 of them)
it works great, to save space u can use some mp3 editing software to cut out the loops tat you like for a ringer then put them directly on the phone memory. ta!
compressing them saves space too (but why anyone would sacrifice audio quality for space is beyond me)
i found this memory card on ebay but im unsure if itll work. if anyone has insights please postmemory card on ebay
i know its SD and the manual says use MMC or something like that but i used a nokia 3650 before and i also had a kodak camera that was out of commision i took the SD card out of the camera and chucked it in the phone and it worked fine. i just looked at the shape and it looke like it would fit so i tried it i dint know there was a difference btwn SD and MMC (is there?)

Posted by: cerver7

mmc and sd are the same shape type and size in lenght and width....but sd is thicker and more durable.

mmc is cheap and thats why nokia uses them.
