can't get curitel (or any) drivers working

Man do I feel stupid I seem to be the only person who can't even get USB drivers installed and working.

I got a crappy generic straight-thru data cable that came with Curitel drivers on a CD. When I plug in everything seems ok--Win XP sees the device and starts installing drivers but the install hangs--after copying files the Found New Hardware Wizard just hangs forever. The drivers seem to install okay tho because I reboot and they are in my Hardware Manager and report themselves as running normally.

Second and more important problem is, I have no additional COM port appear in my list of ports even though everything appears to be working. Is there some trick I'm missing? It seems clear Curitel is not working even tho it looks ok.

After reading a lot of posts on here I tried using other drivers, specifically FutureDial and ones from LG for the VX6000, but I couldn't get either of those to do anything.

I got a cable and cd driver, its Curitel, i download everything and reboot the computer. And no program or icon indicating on desktop of any sort appears. It shows that the installation was complete but nothing is happening. LIke nothin, i cant download or upload, nothing. Ive done it several times. I feel u man.

Is there another program in which we can use, instead of curitel. If so can u give the link to download it thanx

How did you get the Curitel drivers to work?

The cable I bought through eBay, came with a CD with drivers. I installed them according to the instructions on the inside of the cardboard CD case. But, I could never get things working. So I un-installed the drivers and let windows detect the USB device and prompt me to install drivers. I still can't get things working.

I installed BitPim and tried to get that working. However, the only COM port listed is COM 5 and it says that COM 5 in inoperable.

Also, there were different driver installation instructions on the back of the CD case that came with the cable. THe screen shots and file names do not match what is on the CD though.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
mj

Just for reference, I could not get mine to work with the Curitel Drivers.
I did not spend that much time on it. When they didn't work after messing with them for a few minutes, I tried the FutureDial drivers and they are working just fine.

Unzip them to a folder of choice, do a new hardware install for modem and point to that folder. Let the install finish and plug in your phone, open BitPim then close it and open it again, takes a couple of times the first try, but it does work. Then open the File System but don't mess with it (per the sticky tutorial), You will need to do this till you can see the system tree in BitPim. Then close BitPim and open Brewsky (which you should already have installed) and there ya go.

More info on why I can't get Curitel drivers working. I did some digging in their installation script--the first thing I noticed is that they are trying to install cur_bus.sys as a Windows Service and that's where the install is hanging. The service never gets installed and that's why the drivers don't do anything. I tried installing the service myself manually (with instsrv.exe from MS) and I could not get it to run--just get error 129 or some crap every time I spark it up. Tried twiddling a lot of settings and no luck.

My feeling is that the Curitel drivers just plain don't work under XP, despite my generic data cable claiming it works with XP on the packaging. I'm gonna try the Curitel drivers on some other machines and OSes, and also try the FutureDial drivers.

Tepid, thanks for the detailed info on Futuredial install--I will try that.

messyjesse -- I think I saw a solution to your problem elsewhere on the board--something about putting the phone into a diagnostic mode(?) Search for 'diag' I think you'll find it.

The Curitel drivers work fine in Windows XP, but you CANNOT have the cable attached when you install them.. It will install the drivers if you do, and look like it worked, but it won't...

You MUST have the cable unplugged from the computer when installing the drivers...
