Best battery life on a small GSM phone?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Something I haven't seen kicked around: I have a Nokia 8890, 8390 and a T68i. I have them all fully charged up and ignoring what all the status say, I'm going to let them sit until they are all drained and see who has the best standby life.

Of all the smaller phones out, which ones (in real life) have the best talk time or standby time?

As someone who is on the road a lot, I'm always on the hunt for the best battery life and hate having to bring a bunch of extra batteries if possible.

One thing about the old bigger Nokia 61xx series is that you could have those massive brick-batteries that could literally go weeks. I had one that last a month of standby with some daily talk time mixed in! Yowza!

Anyone have some thoughts or opinions?

Thanks,

the t39m is tiny and can last atleast a week w/ the ultra slim battery, the high capacity battery can last atleast 3 weeks.

juss gonna let them drain? pure standby test? no receiving of calls to either of them? if so, make sure they're forwarded hehe...

For what it's worth, I did a shootout between an 8890, 8390 and a T68i. All had full charges and were set to AT&T wireless and I just let them sit side by side until they ran try, starting on Memorial day. Factory batteries, these were new units that have been cycled maybe two or three times tops.

The 8890 crapped out after 4 days. Seems odd.

The T68i went a full 10 days.

The 8390 went 11 days.

All were on and connected to AT&T but no calls came in or were made, just pure standby tests. If judging by the antenna graph and voice quality to 611, the 8390 has much better reception than the T68i, which has been pretty well documented on the forums.

Good information to know...

Any chance for you to do a talk-time study? or include a v60 in your tests?

Not that odd... re. 8890 Battery mine doesn't last either. Strange for a Nokia to have poor Battery life...

I've seen three phones that are comparable in standby, the Motorola C332, the Sony-Ericsson T68i and the Nokia 8390. There are actually more Nokia models out there that are comparable as well since the newer models all use the same chipsets. IMO, the Sony-Ericsson has the best talk times due to a low current drain, coupled with a decent sized battery. Bear in mind that the antenna performance of the T68i is worse than the other two, not to mention the cost. The C332 and 8390 should have comparable antenna performance.

The Nokia 8290 and 8890 is based on an old chipset and has pretty poor current drains (by today's standards). They were good when they first came out though.

Philips Xenium 9@9 have outstanding standby time, but it's 900/1800 and can't be used in USA
