How to send mp3 ringtones to your phone via Verizon's Site

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: bossdragon

Ok, I've been asked so many times how to send music clips from Verizon's site, and have typed it so many times in so many different threads, I thought I'd go ahead a put up a new seperate thread on it for all to see.

Maybe this will squelch/help all that.

Ok, here we go.

Link to Verizon's site to send music clip----->HERE

Now, once your on Verizon's site, go down to where it says Create A Message and click on that. (No, you don't need to sign in or anything)

On the new page go to where it says To and add your cell phone number starting with your area code.

Example: 6601234567 - do not put any slash marks in the number

After that scroll down towards the bottom of the page and you'll see what looks like a piece of film negative. On the left hand side, you'll see From PC. Click on it.

A small box will come up and there will be 3 choices in it. Click on Add Text. Another small box will come up. Click inside that box and type something. Example: 12

Once that is done, click on Add. Your screen may flash, but once that's done, you'll see the text you typed in the main area of film negative area now.

If that is correct, go back to From PC and once again click on it. This time click on Add Audio. Another small box will come up. Once this box is up, click on Browse and search your Hard Drive for the sound clip you want to send to your phone.

Once you found it, double click on it. The path to the song should now be showing in the small box. If it is, click on Add, and the screen should flash.

If all goes well, on the new screen it should say up top in red:

Upload Success
Uploaded:yoursong.mid

Now that all that is done, all you have left to do is send it to your phone.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Send

In a few seconds you should see your phone accepting the clip.

Ta Da, that's it....your done.

I hope this helps. ENJOY!!!!

P.S. Make sure your sound clip had the .mid extention and not .mp3, and also make sure the file size is like 100k or less, or the site won't send it (there is a size limit).

Also, if you plan to send a lot of audio and/or images to your phone, I would strongly suggest getting a cable for your particular phone.

Posted by: bossdragon

Oh, by the way, this also works for sending wallpapers and images to your phone. Instead of clicking on Add Audio just click on Add Image and follow the rest of the steps in the tutorial up above.

It will not send animated gif's though. Yeah, I know...bummer.

Once again, if you want to have those kinds of items on your phone, buy a cable.

Posted by: bossdragon

Ok, enough PM and emails.

Here's how to change the extention on your mp3's.

It's really quite simple.

Go to Window's Explorer, up top click on Go To Tools then on Folder Options and then View.

Once there, scroll down till you find Hide Extensions For Know File Types and make sure there isn't a check mark beside it. If there is get rid of it. Click OK till your all the way out of there.

Go into your files now on your drive where you keep your phone clips.

Now all the extentions should be showing for all your files. Right click on one of your music clip files, hit END on your keyboard, and this should have your cursor sitting at the end of the file name. Now just hit backspace 2 time to delete the p3 portion of the file name and type in id and hit OK. It's going to say something about renaming the file stuff, don't worry about it, hit ok again. It now should be named whatever.mid, and you should be set.

See, told ya it was easy.

If you don't like seeing the extention's for whatever reason, just reverse the above and your all set.

Hope this helps

I think it would be a good idea, if you all would post here whether or not this will work with your phones. That way others looking at this post will know whether or not to even try.

I do know this works on both my VX 7000 and VX 6000, and it doesn't work on either of my wifes phones - VX3200 and Kyocera 2325

Hmmm... I thought that you need to have a camera phone to have the picture messaging service enabled. I know it works for my vx 6000.

You do have to have a picture capable phone to get pic's....but I originally made the thread for sending music (mp3/midi) to your phone.

After posting, I realized I should have been more specific with my title.

Now I just want to know what phones it works on and/or doesn't.

Both for sending pictures and for sending song clips.

This should help before anybody try's, if enough people post here as to yes or no and which phone.

2. i used to send my self like 9 polywhonic ringtones at a time to my self thru Gmail all i have to do is keep on attching new items. i want to know can i do than one? or is there another way other than using verizons site to send more than one(like using email program and send attachments

3. can u tell me exaclty what the size limit is?

4. i have a handful of real tones( with voice) but they are .qcp what do i do with them? i changed extension but winamp and win media player wont read them only the purevoice thing can read them

5. will this work on vx4400?

thank you for this guide

First off, try sending the song clips one at a time. If you did exactly as I explained, it should work with your phone.

As for pictures.....I've sent 2 and 3 at a time to my phone and it worked every time.

As for cost......I sent like 15 music/art clips to my phone at the end of my billing cycle last month just to see what the actual charge was. It said for sending them, the cost was like .34 cents for all of them.

So no...it didn't cost you .25 cents, more like a couple penny's.

I'll just answer in order of your questions.

1. Yes, they are real mp3 songs. Just change the extention from mp3 to mid like I have explained up above.

2. I doubt you can send more than one mostly because of size limitations. Poly ringtones are very small in size....so sending more than one at a time was/is possible. Most of mine and everybody else's song clips are like 75k to 100k in size.

3. If you go to verizon's site where you send songs/pictures to your phone, it will tell you the exact amount you are able to send at a time. (it's actually misleading. try and stay around 100k and you'll be fine)

4. If you have changed the .qcp extention to .mid, and they are like I said around 75k to 100k clips. you should be able to send them to your phone. I guess I'm lost as to why you would want to listen to them on your computer? They are after all just phone clips right?

5. I really don't know if they will work on the 4400. I do know because of a previous post, that it will not work on the 4500. You'll just have to try. It's only a couple penny's if it don't. Also, if you do try please post here so all the rest of us will know one way or the other please.

Posted by: jojo82

yes as i sent my first one, it screwed up

it contained exactly 1 pics and 2 realtones each tone being close to 45-60 kb (very small 10-20 sec clips) anyways when i had had the speaker under normal mode and tried to open up the incoming message, it said that there was an error and cant open it
then i tried it in manner and silence mode then i opend the incoming message and it opend! i was so happy. i veiwed the pic that i sent and saved it but the music clips were there but i just cant save them there was an error sayin that they have to be under 30 kb so what do i do ?

i will try to do it one at a time and check if it works but please explain that previous one screwed up had a total of 89kb in the previous one

also please tell me a sucsess full method of sending more than one clip that has a grand total of 100kb as i can send about 3 of them if there is a way

also i dont understand the part where u said that it will only cost just cuple of pennies because it should cost 25c and i dont know why u got it to 34c and trust me 25c will start to add up and i am juss 16 and dont have alot of money

thank you

Posted by: bossdragon

First off....I'm looking at my verizon bill I got yesterday. It states right on the bill that I sent 7 text messages. (thats how I do it, type a couple letters and attach a music clip to it). To send those 7 messages cost me .14 cents.

I also sent 11 pictures to my phone, but this differ's than what it told me on the Verizon's site, but now it says that those pictures where included in my package...(which is true)

I pay $4.99 a month to be able to send up to 80 pictures from my phone or to my phone.

If indeed your that worried about the cost adding up, you have a couple options.

First...go out and buy yourself a cable. Thats what I use all the time. All software for it you can find here in the forums and it's all free. It's a one time investment and to me well worth it.

Second option is to buy one of the picture/text messaging package that Verizon offers. I think the smallest one is like $2.99 a month. But remember, that's every month.

I'm sure there are other method's of sending like using your regular email account, but I won't get into all that as there are a lot of threads already on that subject.

Maybe somebody else who reads this can say what they were charged for sending a text message with a sound clip attached.

As for the 30 second rule. I do remember something about that for my 6000. But, I haven't sent a song clip to it from Verizon, I always use my cable.

Yeah, I meant to say 30 k and not seconds.

Well, you can get something like Audacity and trim them down so that they are 30k or less. but at 30 k, your really not going to get much of clip. There was a discussion in one of the threads about converting to .qcp which is lower quality than mp3 but suppose to sound pretty good on our phones and the file size is suppose to be much, much smaller. You could look into that.

If I was you, I'd really invest in a cable though. That size limit is out the window then. Just out of curiosity I downloaded a whole song onto my 6000, and then another, and another. It held all of them and each one was like 3 to 4 megs in size.

I currently have like 25 songs that I have downloaded onto my 6000 and each one is sized between 50k to 95k. All with the cable though.

WOAHH!!!!!!! even if u did have the cable how did u manage that much?
thats like 2 megs atleast right there
and when i check under GIN the fones memory is only 1.6 mb how in da... WTF!!!!!! please correct me if i am wrong?

also i think imma get a cable i give up on sending it

Posted by: bossdragon

If I'm not mistaken, and somebody correct me on this, but your memory has nothing to do with actual storage space. There have been many threads to see just how many actual clips the 6000 can hold.

I know that my 7000 holds a lot more than my work phone (6000), and I just went out to my work truck and looked at how many ringtones are on my work phone right now, and there's 37 total, not 25 like I originally thought..

Posted by: jojo82

some one please clarify what the memory under
GIN
settings
manage apps
Phone info

it says 1.6 mb and it shows how much is used up and stuff like that

and if that not how much the fone has please tell how much it does have

and these full mp3 clips u say, how long are they in seconds and minuits? cause i was thinking of this crazy idea , but jus might work tryin to make this a wierd but temperary mp3 player until i get enuff money for harddrive based one

please some one support or decline my thought

also off topic but i have download ringtones that are already qcp and are voice tones what can i do with them ?

Hello gentleman, new to the board. Anyway, I really appreciate this, I now figured out how to send pictures to my phone! However, what should I resize my image to in order to get the best quality background on my phone? I'm a graphics designer, so I SHOULD be able to understand whatever you throw at me. If you could give me a good size in pixels I'd appreciate it. Thanks again!

I tried to upload a ringtone.

I got an mp3... resized it... then renamed it to a .mid.
First time i tried to upload it ... it said it was too big.
I edited the mp3 and made it a smaller size.
Then it said it was successfully uploaded.
Then when I sent it.. I got "Unsupported content type aduio/mid 04-fabolous-breath_(explicit_album_version)-mad.mid"

I have a vx6000

All you did was change the file extension, sir. You need to convert the .mp3 to a .mid
Changing the file extension won't do anything for you, and is why it's giving you that error message.

http://www.intelliscore.net/download.html

That's an example of a program you could use. You could also check downloads.com.

If no luck, you can use this:

If you read, the first topic message only said to RENAME the file. All those converters are ×××× confusing.

I got it. Thanks a million! Now I have sexy Milla Jovovich on my phone! Now how do I delete it so that the pics I don't want are permanently off my phone? When I go to the wallpaper under settings, the Pix Messages that contain that pics were deleted, but their pics are still there.

Is all that the name of the song????? 04-fabolous-breath_(explicit_album_version)-mad.mid

If it is...WOW!!!

Clip it down to lets say mad.mid, and try sending it that way.

Remember, their site tells you what the limit is. So when you are renaming it to a .mid, check the file size. Make sure it's like 70 to 100k at the most.

And no you don't need to covert and all that crap. Just do as I said in the tutorial, and it will work.

jojo heres some help..

the 6000 isnt the greatest phone to send ringers to via vzwpix. your best bet is to spend 30 bucks on the cable and get bitpim for free.

you can upload larger files that way. larger than 30k up wards to like 30 seconds which i think is like 120k and you can do 20 of them without compromising your phone.

look at the thread lgvx6000 ringtones for dummies.. its really easy.

for the most part. sending ringers via VZWPIX is only good for video phones.

like the 710 7000 9900 other than those your wasting your time with a 10 second ringer that wont repeat.

and some more help

just renaming a file wont help...

use soundforge and save the file as an mp3 but as mono and 32k 22050. then send it to your phone

as for pix... just send them as jpg. no need to resize the phone will do it on its own. at least mine do.

Yeah.....this thread is a bit old. But, it's still a good place to start for people who are new to all this phone stuff.

Posted by: JTRipper

the cable is best for non video phones.

with the video phones you can send them from any email to the handset. and up to 30 secs of sound. and what are you gonna do with a cable when you get a new phone?

yeah i know 30 bucks for 2 years

or 2.99 a month for 2 years...

i prefer the other... a lil bit more money but alot less hassle.

all u need is sound forge and an email and your set.

But, with the cable, you can do so much more besides sound and wallpaper. Also, the size limitation is no longer an issue.

Less hassle??.....Not even close, at least not IMHO.

Also, you can send more than 30 seconds from email already. (at least to a video phone. I've sent up to 50 seconds)

Thirty bucks??....I got mine off Ebay, cost 6 bucks. With a price tag of $6, most of us could afford to buy a cable every two years I think.

I guess it comes to down to, "to each his/her own" . Do what your comfortable with

Posted by: JTRipper

it also come down to... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

30 seconds is long enough for a ringer.. since the switch sends most calls to voice mail after 4 to 6 rings.. thats like 35 seconds and if you dont answer after 30 seconds you aint gonna answer.

yeah wall paper.. ummmm

just email a jpeg...

phone book manager.. ooooo.. if you dont remember thier number by heart dont call them..

dont get me wrong the 6000 WAS a good phone.. but the 7000 is better when you can email it a ringer..

the 9900 is the same as well as the v-710..

it boils down to this....

time spent...

its alot easier to email...

since bit pim is changing..

trust me i work in the industry.. email is alot easier than a cable.

because Verizon's site won't send mp3 files. Don't ask me why either, because I don't know the answer....sorry.

Rascal Flatts - These Days

verizon only allows midi files.. to be sent...

if you make yer own make them

32kp at 22050

then save as mono..

before you email it change it from SONG.MP3 to SONG.MID

it will still play and sound like the mp3 ringer.. just tricking the phone to play it is all

Posted by: kalina34

I have a LG 6100, and I keep hearing about a cable that I can use to move pics and music but How do I find out what cable I need? I asked at verizon when I bought the phone but they told me there was no cable. any ideas?

I am going to go and try the tutorial for the sounds too-let you know if it works!

Posted by: JTRipper

give it a few weeks before the cable comes out. or check radio shack.

the 6100 will play mp3 ringers. ive tested it already and it works

Posted by: kalina34

Thanks-do you know what the cable will be called?

Also-i tried the instructions from page one to send a sound to my phone and it told me there was no sound when it arrived at my phone.

Posted by: gtp618

Just tried to use instructions at beginning of thread. I only recieve a text message saying
"You've got a Picture or Video Message! To see it , visit www.vzwpix.com/mlib/getpix/ from any computer and follow the instructions.

Help?

Posted by: kalina34

Just wanted to update...I tried the instructions again, realizing that I didn't change the file to midi, only mid which is why it didn't work for me before. I was able to successfully send a song to my phone last night.

Am I correct in asuming that it counts as a picture so the cost is only $0.25?

And I am still interested in hearing specifically what this cable is that would allow me to move stuff to the phone? what is it called and where can I get it?
thanks

Posted by: JTRipper

the cable when it comes out will allow you to send ringers from your computer and pics..

you'll need bitpim if it has the 6100 im not sure.

big diff is that songs can now be up to 30 secs with the cable.

most stores will carry the cable but its not out yet.

and yes that did cost you 25 cents..

better to spend 2.99 a month if your going to contiue to send ringers that way. then you get 20 (ringers)

Posted by: kalina34

Thanks for the info! I much happier to spend a few cents for a ringer than a few dollars!

Do you know what this cable will be called when it does come out? will i be able to get it at verizon or somewhere else? When I originally asked in the store the guy thought i was nuts.

Do you know what this cable will be called when it does come out? will i be able to get it at verizon or somewhere else? When I originally asked in the store the guy thought i was nuts.

JT it seems will be able to answer your question much more than I will.

I'm glad he has taken his time to answer some of the questions that have come up in this thread, it is way more than I thought would happen.

If he don't reply to your question, I will of course look into it and help you anyway I can.

hahah thanks boss...

the cable will be and office kit.. for that modle of phone.

it will allow you to upload phone numbers...

what youwill really nead id BITPIM. use a search engine and look for it. that will allow you to send ringers and pix to your phone. give it a week or two.

then go back to the store you got yer phone and ask for the moblie office kit.

Posted by: kalina34

thanks so much. we actually just ordered the cable online but its out of stock so we are just waiting til they send it. I already downloaded the other program I think so it looks like I will be set!
thanks!

no prob.. if ya need help just post here..

you'll need bitpim if it has the 6100 im not sure.

big diff is that songs can now be up to 30 secs with the cable.

most stores will carry the cable but its not out yet.

and yes that did cost you 25 cents..

better to spend 2.99 a month if your going to contiue to send ringers that way. then you get 20 (ringers)

Why wouldn't you just email them to your phone using the @vzwpix.com?

I have tried this and it works. Easier than using VW website IMO.

Posted by: kalina34

Can you tell me more about this vzpix site? what is the difference? does it still cost $0.25 to send through there? sorry all the silly questions~

Posted by: buzzaddict

The 0.25 charge is whether you use the site or email. Unless you have a pix mess package, then it just takes away from that credit.

Had some time to kill so I followed the tutorial at the start of this thread. Changed mp3 to mid per instructions, and it said uploaded successfully. Shouldn't this clip now be on my lst of ringers? I have an LG-4500. Thanks for any info

Posted by: JTRipper

kinshasa- depends.. most camera phones give you the option to save the sound.. im not sure about the 4500. i do know that non camera phones will play ringers that are 30 seconds long but will not store them. the file must be 30k which is like.. 15 seconds long.

ill look into the 4500 a lil more for you if youd like.. and post what i find out here..

Posted by: JTRipper

kalina- go to... www.vzwpix.com and register there..

it allows you to upload pics and sounds from your PC to your phone. but agian ringers need to be 30 seconds in length and midi format. wall papers too.

some other neat stuff just look around. if your having trouble with makin the ringers i can do a few for ya.. just send me a PM and ill make them..

It actually won't be in your list till you save it. You'll need to bring that file back up and save the song. Once you have done that, it will be in the list for you to use/enjoy.

As for the 30 second limit. I am not sure if your phone abid's by that or not. The only way to know about yours is try a larger file and see. Maybe there's another thread specifically about that subject and your phone.

Verizon's site will allow you to send song clips over 30 seconds in length. They have file size limitation on it not a song length limitation. I have send 100k songs to my phone via their site (about 50 seconds give or take of music).

As for wallpapers, I think the only limitation again is size. I have sent 4 wallpapers at one time to my phone via their site with no problem.

I can also help you with your song clips if you'd like. I have a website up with a number songs on it already. I think everyone of them are over 30 seconds though, as my phone can play songs over 30 seconds in length, and most that request songs from me have phones the same way.

Posted by: kinshasa

I don't think the 4500 has an option to save the sound. The first time I tried to upload a sound clip, it was too big and upload failed. I did try a clip from your site and it uploaded successfully. When I checked my music, though, it showed only one GIN clip I had bought.

Posted by: JTRipper

kinshasa look in "my media" folder on your phone it may be there.

Posted by: kinshasa

Nope-- in fact I called Verizon and they said the 4500 isn't capable of this trick

Posted by: JTRipper

of course they tell you that...

why would they tell you it worked? they say it doesnt so you can spend money on the GET IT NOW stuff...
dont be fooled..

trust me the 4500 does do it.. so does the 6100 I KNOW FOR A FACT THEY BOTH DO IT.

ive made ringers for both...

use bitpim and the cable..

it works

dont be fooled..

Posted by: bossdragon

LOL...they have told just about everybody who's asked that same question the same thing. JT's right, they make money off you downloading from them, why tell you otherwise?

Once again, JT's right on the cable too. It saves you countless headaches, and you can do so much more to your phone once you have it and bitmap (or whatever program you decide to use).

I sent a midi file (an acutal midi, not a renamed mp3) to my 7000 and when i open it up it plays the clip for about 5 seconds and when i go to save it, it says "no sound". The file is very small, only 22kb. Anyone know what the problem is?

Posted by: kalina34

I had the same thing happen to me a few times...it IS suppossed to be MIDI right? not MID?

I got it to work once....but since then nothing-no sound error. I have 6100

Change the less than 100k mp3 to ***.mid

Less than 30k for the VX6000

Posted by: RnbwSktles

I sent two songs at one time and it recognized the second one. I don't get why it says no sound when i send only one. Oh well.

Posted by: kalina34

i wil try it again...got it to work once...

Posted by: JTRipper

wont save sound..

try this.. when saving save file..

then look in your get it now for it as a ringer

Posted by: kalina34

Ok...i am not sure what you said to try and save when it says the sound error ie no sound when I KNOW there is a sound b/c it played can you expand?

Also...I just got the mobile office kit with the USB cable, and I went to the BITPIM website and downloaded their latest version but it didn't list the 6100 as a phone...do you know if it is still supported? And how does the BITPIM program work? I want to gather info before I try to many crazy things!

Thanks!!

Posted by: daddyslittlegrl

Ok i think i need some help. I've done juts as you said, i sent the message with the song and when it comes to my VX7000 it asks if i want to recieve the message. When i click yes it comes up with a 'connecting" box and then two seconds later "message reciept failed"

Am I doing something wrong here?

I got a question too. Im using Audacity and I have my songs with at 100 to 108kb. It sends fine. But the song only lasts like 5 seconds. This sucks. My computer wont work right with a cable and this is the only way I can get them minus paying top dollar thru GET IT NOW. Can someone tell me is there a way to compress the file to 100kb and have the song for like 20 seconds or is that possible? Please help me. THANKS Great forums !

Posted by: tater259

Oh...also I have a LGVX6000

is there any hacks for the GET IT NOW option. Anyway to get around paying for it? Anywhere on the net that I can find games for this phone or do I have to get it from GET IT NOW.

Once the song is on your phone and you preview it, it will only play for about 5 seconds. Bring the message back up, go to options and scroll down to save song. Once you have done that, go to tunes & tones and all your songs should be there including the new one. Scroll down to it, press play and the song should play the full length now.

It asked if you want to recieve the message? I have never seen nor heard of this one. On the 7000 once the message is sent to it, it automatically accepts it, then it shows the message being downloaded.

Like I said in my last post, once the phone has all of the file it will let you preview about 5 seconds of the song. Just do as I said before and you should have your song.

im sending the ringtone as MP3 converted to mid....will that give me the full song cause I cut out most of the full song. Just enough to have 100kb. And when I play it it plays for about 5 seconds or does it not matter if its ogrinally mp3?

You did just like I said right? All your doing is changing the extention from .mp3 to .mid. Your not actually converting it to a midi?

The only way you can get an entire song on your phone is with a cable. You sending a clip of the song shouldn't matter, it should still play the song/clip that you have sent.

Then again, it also depends on the bitrate, etc that your making your clips at. You need to drop the sample rate and the bitrate of the song down.

Try this, go to my site and download one of the songs and send it to your phone and let me know if it plays on your phone.

wow mine wasnt anywhere near that. Yes I did follow your instruction and yes I did rename it instead of converting it. But I didnt do none of that birate stuff. Im suing audacity would that matter different from soundforge....also check out the software section of this forum for LG's I posted a problem with my cable and bitpim. THanks for the info **Downloading metallica *

I'm sorry, I messed up on you and another person. You have a 6000...and the longest the song can be is 30 seconds. None of the songs I have on my site are exactly 30 seconds.

As for using Audacity, thats cool, that's what I use also. There is a really great tutorial that is a sticky at the beginning of the threads here. It's something about 6000 for dummies. It's really good.

We've have had a lot of desicusion's on what rates to change your songs too. You should look them up too.

If your still having problems or can't find the threads...drop another one here and I'll tell ya how I do mine.

Tater...

if your sending your song via Email.. you only get 30k of song.. thats like ooooo 15 seconds period..

if you are using the cable.. then you can do like 30 seconds..

sorry.. thats jsut the way it is

Posted by: tater259

go to the software forums....its the reason why I cant use a cable. When I send thru email its not even 15 seconds long LOL.....O well Guess I will do without Mp3 ringtones

tater... and nicole..

net work auth failure is something you need to call in..

you need to call this number
1-866-788-9387

tell the tech support that error and you think its the "AAA" in the server that not set correctly.. trust me on this.. i know whut it is.. it wont take long to fix.

that should fix it.

if you still have trouble post here or PM me and ill try to help.

Posted by: bossdragon

You guys/gals need to do exactly as JT says, if you have followed my instructions and everybody else's here, and still can't get a mp3 on yer phone, then it has to do with your software.

Hundreds of people have pm'd me saying that once they have followed the instructions, every worked perfectly.

Something other than my instructions are messing up your phone. As JT says, have your phone checked.

called the number and talked to 4 people. They really didnt do anything. The last guy I talked to told me to come to this website lol to get ringtones. He said it has something to do with the file the reason why it wont send correctly. I told him I was sendthing them with .mid I also tryed sending the ringtone that bucZ sent me to my moms LG 6000 and it said the same thing. Grrrrr im pissed off haha

Posted by: daddyslittlegrl

I just called the number, talked to i think two guys and they're calling me back today. They said something wasn't on my account that needed to be there. some "enchanced" feature i think.....any ways he said he'd call me today and hopefully the problem would be fixed.

Nicole

i have another question is this just for LG 7000 or will all this work on a LG 6000 like my phone? I noticed alot of people who this worked for has LG 7000. BTW I just emailed them back about it.

Posted by: JTRipper

tater... the 6000 is a camera phone... the 7000 video/camera.

not to be little you sorry.. but the 6000 over the air can only take 30 k of sounds.. while the 7000 can do alot more... like 30 seconds so that like 120k or more.

if you plan on keeping your phone for a long time go and buy the cable. thenyou can do 30 second ringers. radio shack sells them for around 15 ta 20 bucks. alot less hassle too..

nicole... what ringers are you looking for?

PM me a list ill see what i can do..

Posted by: tater259

HERE is the reason why I cant use a cable

I bought a cable off ebay. It gave me a CD full of drivers. I just go down the list and install all the drivers some say LG some say verizion phones some say drivers for the cable. I install them all. I use the version of bitpim for my VX6000 and it gives me an option on what com to use. All I have is COM 1. I select the option for it to choose the next available COM to use and it gives me an error. On the directions it says he used COM 4 and it worked ok. I tryed using COM 1 and it says that its being used by another program. Can someone tell me how to disable what is using COM1 so I can use the cable or tell me how to get more COM's Please help me.....thank you

JTRipper, I'm looking for some more current stuff.
Maroon 5 "she will be loved", "harder to breath", "Sercret"
My chemical Romance "I'm not okay"
Ashlee Simpson "pieces of me", "LaLa"
and the sex and the city theme song

I've got a 7000 so longer tones would be great!

Thanks a lot

There are a couple of really good sites out there for some of the more current stuff as you put it. Try these:

Josh's Ringtones

Q-Balls Thread

Or last but not least, my buddy Blazer's Site which is located:

HERE

Josh's page has mostly current stuff on it, Qballs is for requesting current stuff, and Blazer's site has everything you'll need for your 7000

Posted by: X Thrice X 08

how do u know how big the music file is before u send it?

Posted by: daddyslittlegrl

i tried Josh's site and he had a few songs i like but when i sent them they didn't work...i think they were to big....

anyway you could make me some of those songs and have them around 30 sec long?

Please please

Nicole

Posted by: X Thrice X 08

i tried sending it but the file was always too big, anyone know a program or somehow to find out the size of the song im trying to send? or how to make it a smaller file by turning down the quality or something
???

Posted by: JTRipper

ok...

30k = 15 seconds...

to see the size of the file right click on it and choose properties...

nicole..

if youd like ill send the ringers to your handset...

if not let me know..

pm me your # and ill send them to you.

15 Minute Song????

There is no way your going to get that song on your phone, or for that matter as far as I know, that song on any phone.

For your particular phone, 30 seconds is the max you can have on it. The size will depend on how it's cut.

15 minutes......WOW!!!

Posted by: daddyslittlegrl

JTRIPPER, i don't think i sent them wrong or anything. two or three sent to my phone and the others didn't work.
What songs are you going to send?

Nicole

Posted by: X Thrice X 08

i ment 15 seconds

I've gotten a 43 sec clip to fit on my VX6000 (albeit with a cable) and it will play all the way through from the gallery. I'm sure if I set it as a ringtone, the phone will cut it off when the voicemail picks up.

42.945 sec @ 22050 Hz, 32 kbs mono
filesize 168 KB (172,032 bytes)

I wonder what the absolute largest size is that will play, whether using a cable or sending from the web? Any ideas?

Largest size? In what sense? Overall filesize (168kb)? 22050 hz size? 32kbs size? 42.945 sec. size?

i want to send a decent size real rongtone to my vx 6000 but i dont know how, any ideas?

Posted by: macavity13

I was wondering about filesize. I guess I could experiment, just wondering if anyone knew offhand what the max filesize was. Higher bitrates don't seem to work as well and they make for much larger files. I don't think frequency matters a whole lot.

I'm using a data cable I got a few months back
http://www.rpiwireless.com/store/pr...80&cat=0&page=1

And using the latest version of Bitpim
http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/

Bitpim is a little buggy and you can mess things up pretty easy so make sure to back up your phone. This site helped a lot

thats roughly 30 seconds long.

Good question. I just went there and the pix place is temp unavailable. I went to VZW main page and the entire site was down.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see what's going on.

Verizon is starting to get more greedy by the minute. They are trying to force us into the rip-off Get It Now service by redesigning vzwpix. Did you trying e-mailing the ringtone to your phone with Outlook or Yahoo Mail? It should work - my bro tried with his Motorola camera phone. Just send the e-mail with the ringtone/wallpaper attachment to (your phone number)@vzwpix.com

Posted by: bossdragon

Yes, I just tried via normal email and it sent perfectly. I found out that Verizon's site is back up, but I haven't tried hem yet it.

Sometime tonight I'll try them.

Keep me posted!

Have you tried sending it from Verizon's site?

Posted by: bossdragon

Never mind....I just tried going to their website, and it's down again.

Posted by: JTRipper

bossdragon.. verizon's mail server will not allow you to send directly to your phone.. but there are ways around this.(they are attempting to block you and other users from sending stuff to your phone from your email. they want you to use their site so that they can monitor what your sending.)

you most likely got the error message dns blah blah blah host not found. if not the file was not recognized..

to fix this.. simply send a photo to your email from your handset. and when you go to send yourself a ringer simply reply to the photo that you sent yourself. dont know why its that way but it seems to be the only way to get it to work. even if the verizon site is down.

Posted by: Orlando_65

ya can't send it through the site anymore....you have to use Yahoo! Mail now...greedy @$$ Verizon! oh well...

Posted by: Orlando_65

just do the same thing as with the Verizon site...change the extension to ''.mid'' and use the yahoo mail, it'll all work fine

Posted by: bossdragon

You don't have to use Yahoo as the only way...any email will work, but ya....Verizon has caught onto our trick. I said this in an earlier email.....it would only be time.

JT has it narrowed down to a point. Do as he say's and it will work fine. I also tried it just sending an attachment with my email and it worked fine.

So whatever works for you, post it here so we can all know. As of this week, this thread is bascially dead I'd say. Bummer!!!

But, I was expecting this...and as JT has already posted, there are way's around it. Hopefully more will post other method's they have found that will work.

Posted by: X Thrice X 08

does it matter the size of hte file when u send it through yahoo? or can it be any size? for the vx 6000 do u have to stick with the lame 15 second ringtone even if u send it throguh email??

Posted by: JTRipper

when sending to a phone that is not a vid/cam phone via email you are limited to 30k.... 15 seconds.. does not mean 30k it could only be.. 10 maybe 5 secs.. depending on the file.

ok...i've tried all of these methods...less than 30k, rename mp3's to mid, sent from mobile to mobie, from email to mobile and all i get is "Unsupported Content". can anyone confirm that greedy vzw has their server's detect and drop these attachments???

Posted by: daddyslittlegrl

Ok just out of wonder I sent a song to my phone from yahoo email and it worked fine. Maybe it's cause I have a 7000. The file was 90k i think.

Sorry to say, but you have to stay with the lame 30 second size...not 15. It is lame, but that phone is limited to 30 seconds. The only way to get around that (and I'm not really sure on this anymore) is to use a cable.

slight bump

EBAY!!!!!

saw the v710 with all accessories and the memory chip sell for around 200.

in a store the phone was... 420.. just for the phone!!

ebay is the way to go.

Posted by: NOSintake

how do i reduce the size of the file?

Posted by: JTRipper

reduce?

make it shorter.. what length is the ringer? how many seconds?

30 seconds is right around 100 to 126k depending..

You can either reduce the length of the song clip or reduce the bit rate and/or sample rate.

Example: A normal song is set at 32 bit, 44000 hz. Dropping it down to 16 bit and 22000 hz will drastically reduce the size of the file.

Posted by: bossdragon

JT do you still have that Audiovox CDM 9900?

If so, how is it for a phone? Was thinking of upgrading the wife's phone, and that seemed like a pretty nice middle of the line phone.

Posted by: buzzaddict

Lower the bitrate at which its compressed.

Posted by: JTRipper

9900 great phone better than the 7000.... why you ask?

tri mode... does alot more than the 7000 like send ringers from fone to fone. middle of the line? LOL no its much more than that... far better than the 7000 and the 6100.. and as far as i can tell the 8000 as well..

good luck finding the 9900.. its production has been stopped... but if you can get it its the best phone ive bought... better than the 7000 and the v710..

Cool, my local Verizon store still has some or one on display for sure, I don't know about any in the back. I'll go down and get it tomarrow. Looked like a really nice phone, but didn't know about the features and such.

Thanks for the info. I might have to take that as my phone and give the wife the 7000.....LOL

I use Audacity. Just load the song up in the program, reset the bit and sampling rate to your choosing and Audacity will remake it at your settings.

I know that sounds easy, and as a matter of fact, once you get the feel for Audacity, it really is that easy.

You'll be making your own clips in no time.

There are already hundred's of 8000's out. Heck, I've even found 2 on ebay already. But, I just want a fairly nice phone for her.

Our contract isn't up for quite some time, so I'll be paying full price. (Big time Ebay) (thats how I found the 8000's), or, if I really find something that catches my attention, a new phone for me and a hand-me-down for her.

Is the Verizon service to send music clips down for good? Because the link provided in the first post doesn't work anymore and I couldn't find another way to it.

I tried sending a midi file through my#@vzwpix.com but I don't know how to get the file on my phone (VX6100). Well, actually the midi won't even play in the Verizon email browser on my computer. It just says "streaming" but no sound comes out. Can anyone please help me? Thanks

Posted by: bossdragon

Well JT, I went ahead and got the Aud 9900. I think I'll play with it for a bit before deciding to give it over to the Mrs. or keep it. Already found that the memory isn't anything compared to the 7000. Filled it up quick with around a third of the songs the 7000 can hold.

Also don't like the fact that you can't set it to ring and vibrate at the same time.

I might see how the rest go, and maybe get the v710 and see what one I like better.

I have to admit though, ×××× that inside screen is the clearest I have ever seen, and the sound quality is really good too. Pic's are way better than the 7000, and honestly, I think it's put together a lot better than the 7000 also.

I am very hard on phones, and it feels like this one would take a lot more abuse that my 7000, which has taken a beaten (second face plate, third antenna and third battery in about 7 months).

If you have any info on the v710, besides the basic's that are already known, let me know. ( You know, hows the screen, sound quality vs. the 9900, gonna fall apart if dropped more than once, etc?)

Posted by: JTRipper

I hate the 710 to be honest. i use it daily.. not by choice.

the phone requires a power cycle once a day... or your text messages wont come thru. ive sent pixs to both the 9900 and the v710 at the same time.. the 710 never gets them. the phone was rushed to production i think. the memory card is cool. pics are horrid all the cameras are off like 5 degrees.

at high resolution the pics are grainy..so if we do pros and cons..

v710- memory chip good
9900 no memory chip (so so)

screen well you know whats better already.

customizable inside and outside screens? 9900 wins both of those.

do this with the 9900. go to menu then hit options. this allows you to customize the background and the icons!! kinda cool i think.
i have like 15 or so 30 sec ringers on my 9900.
thats more then enuff for me.
v710 has a delay in it a bad one when the memory gets close to full.

ring and vib.. hummm dont use it never noticed.. its ringing or its not with me. ill look into it.

dont let the v710 fool ya... its got some cool stuff but if you use the camera in low light or outdoors it sucks. the blue tooth is OK. not great. you cant connect to a PC or do transfers. so to me its NOT true bluetooth.

fone to fone i find the 9900 to be much better and more functional for me.

now if they would make a V99710 id be happy!!! lol

Posted by: bossdragon

V99710....LOL....now that would be a cool phone.

Hmmmm....well, I think maybe with all the gadget's (bluetooth, high res camera, memory card, etc) I was thinking the 710 was much better.

I use the camera, but not that much (that is stills. Video I use everyday). My biggestest things are normal ease of use. The bluetooth is one of the biggest things I would like. The memory card seems like they would have unlimited possibilities. Different cards for different applications.

I am already full on my contact list on the 9900 (only 300 vs the 500 my 7000 has). I know, I am the exception to the rule on that. Not very many people have that many contacts. I do, and add and delete constantly.

The 4 minute video feature on the 710 would really, really rock instead of me having to carry my mini camcorder on filming short 2 and 3 minute clips of the work I am having done. (which I do 5 to 6 times a day. Another application for different memory cards).

But, there are many good things I am seeing with the 9900.

Well, I still have 2 weeks to decide before updating to the 710 or not.

Oh, one question. Is there a cover for the bottom of the 9900? That's is a awfully big opening where the data cable/charging plugin area is. I see mulitple problems occuring with that major gap.

Posted by: JTRipper

4 mins? the v710 only does 15 seconds of video.

ive heard samsung is releasing a new phone that will do a full hour of video.

the charging port doesnt have a cover just noticed that myself even with the leather case.

the v710 is grainy on stills videos are ok.. but then again they are phones my expectations are not that high for the quality of video.

the mem card is cool i hear you can upload mpeg4 to the card and used the video as a ringer id kinda cool im tryin that tonite.

the 8000 looks to be cool too. i like the size of it. but then agian size isnt everything.. HAHAH so i was told once or twice before. HAHAH

how would you get the 710 to do longer videos?

I've actually heard it can record longer. Here's just one site that I found real quick. This one says it can record 3 minute clips, but if you click on the "Video Capture" it says that basically the phone is only limited to the amount of memory it has.

Click here for the link -------> HERE

Now am having problems with scheduler on the 9900. Basically rings whenever it wants, not on the times I have set. Also, phone freezing up when receiving txt msg's ( which I receive about 30 a day) not a good thing.

Verizon people at two different stores are baffled about the scheduler, and also Samsung....not a good sign.

Posted by: kay87

i hope this didn't post twice. if it did, sorry..but i read through this thread and i'm just LOST. i clicked that link on the open page to go to the sound clip site..thing on verizon..and that link wont work for me. and i can't find it on my own, i've tried for awhile now..from there on i think i understand it all, but if you can repost a link that works, it'd be much appreciated.

Posted by: JTRipper

kay it seems you have a lgvx3200. sorry but that phone wont do ringers via vzwpix.com its not a camera phone.

only way to put ringers on your phone would be witha data cable and bitpim

sorry..

Posted by: kay87

thanks for answerin ^^ but where could i find a data cords..i searched the radio shack sites, circuit city..but i can't find one. plus i live in the middle of nowhere, pennsylvania -- so if the radio shack around here has it..it'll be a miracle..

Posted by: bossdragon

Try Ebay. It's cheaper and you'll probably find what your looking for and a lot more.

Dang, that sounds like a commercial doesn't it?....

Posted by: JTRipper

kay..

the 3200 has the same data port as the 7000 so it gives you a better chance of finding a cable. drivers on the other hand... you may have to get off the net..

most verizon stores have the cable and drivers for around 40 bucks.

Posted by: kay87

What's bitpim and what are the drivers your talking about?

Posted by: JTRipper

just because the cable fits the phone doesnt mean your computer will communicate with it. you need to find CDMA modem drivers for the 3200.

look at places like

snap dial or future dial .com

bitpim... use google and its a free download

Posted by: kay87

ok well i've found bitpim but the one i have doesn't list my cell..plus, this whole driver thing is way over my head. i searched both sites you said along with google and if i type in CDMA modem drivers, all i get is sites for the USB data cord..which i have. sorry about all the questions, but i just dont get this --

Posted by: bossdragon

Ok, I had to dig for this one, but I remembered a thread some months back on the 3200.

Why don't you try this link-------->HERE

The Wiz found a way to load ringtones on his wifes 3200. He has pretty detailed instructions on how he did it.

Maybe this will help.

I did notice that he used the 4500 settings to do the work in bitmap.

Posted by: kay87

that sounds easy enough..only problem is the filesystem won't show up..it says that the "COM2: could not open port: (2, 'CreatFile', 'The system cannot find the file specified.'). the only things I know that could be wrong is that one, i have the cord plugged into the USB port in the front of my computer [Have a Dell Dimension 2400] and I'm not sure if my phone has to be set a certain way to allow bitpim to access it..any ideas?

Posted by: OWLZ4ME

OK, I have BitPim...so all I need now is the USB cable to use it? *confused*

For your phone (LG 6000) I would go to the link "how to put my3's on your phone for dummies". It's very good, very simple to follow instructions specifically for your phone.

They even tell ya what you need i.e. cable's, bitmap, etc. I would make sure you have the latest version's of everything, as the thread is a bit old.

The link is located------> HERE

My settings are

i got those alot on my 6000 with bit pim..

look in the folder ummm named...

my docs/ bitpim open that and delete all the crap in those folders and try again..

that helped me a few times

You may also want to try different com ports...I had to try like 4 different ports before I got things to work.

Thanks. I just went there, and it mentioned getting the cable, etc. from www.accessorygeeks.com. However, the necessary software included with the cable is Windows-only, and I'm on a Mac.

Great, I'm glad to hear it. Once you get some stuff on your phone, let me know. Maybe I'll destroy - I mean - download some stuff on her phone.

Posted by: kay87

I have stuff added now..2 ringtones. phone is holding up great especially since i've heard most people can't upload ringtones over 30k..i know this isn't the right topic, but is there a thing that explains how to put wallpapers on 3200 with bitpim? and good luck with the wife's phone.
