6620 pin out for making a stereo jack

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ive been testing out the pins on the port but all i can get is a mono, can i change that by changing the jumper that tells whats plugged in or is there just no stereo output, has any one had any luck with this?

Wow, thats what I'm doing right now and I got the same results

Pop port pinout diagram

Pin:
11 HS Ear L N negativ -
12 HS Ear L P positiv +
13 HS Ear R N negativ -
14 HS Ear R P positiv +

I connected Pin 11 and 13 to ground/common of the headphone jack, 12 to left ear, and 14 to right ear...

I then played on realplayer a mp3 where it separated LEFT and RIGHT sound from each other and all I got was it playing at the same time on both ears. I'm stumped too...

i ended up buying the headset from ebay for 10 bucks and i get dual mono also

What? So is the Nokia 6620 mono? But I heard that people were able to play Stereo mp3s on it.

And what headphones did you get? I know there are some cheap ones out there that just take one line and split it into two (mono). I took apart a cheap HS-3 (its a fake one) I got from Hong Kong and thats how its wired inside. Not sure if the retail HS-3 are the same though...

i got a real hs3 and its stereo but doesnt play stereo

That is soo weird. What firmware is your Nokia 6620? Is it from AT&T?

Posted by: zip20155

yes

Posted by: darkNRG

What firmware is your phone?

Heres the test I did.. its blurry though...

Posted by: zip20155

i did the same test and coudnt figure out why i had dual mono so i got the real head set and same thing, how do i check my firmware ver

To check firmware, press:
*#0000#

My firmware is 2.14.1
28-06-04
NHL-12

You have an AT&T phone right? I'm gonna go buy the HS-3 over the weekend and see if I'm able to get stereo output. But ×××× its gonna be expensive. Its selling at $40 CDN.

same firmware here, i got my headset for 10 bucks on ebay

Dunno. Getting it from retail, I think I'll be able to return it if it dosen't work... Will post my results once I get my hands on one.

Got a new pair of HSD-3 headphones from my local Fido store. Results: STEREO. YAY!

So I guess making stereo headphones for the Nokia 6620 is not as easy as connecting it directly to the pop port. Some circuit is needed inbetween to enable stereo. I'll take apart my new headphones and take a look at it when I get some time.

Hi DarkNRG,

Did u have the time to take a look at ur HDS-3 inside wire? I'm very interested to know how to enable the stereo function for the 6620. I had the same problem basically with other people here trying to modify and get only dual mono.

i got myself a pop-port connector and begins to mod myself according to the pin (11-14, L-,L+,R-,R+), the result is still Mono!, i'm sure there's no short circuit in my soldering since i do this kinda thing a lot in my job. So either the pin layout is wrong, or there's something needed to be set in the phone to turn on the mp3 stereo function. By looking at the HS-3, HDS-3 and HD-8 connector, there are all the same, i'm beginning to wonder if it's true that 6620 gives u stereo mp3 sound now.

In order to make sure what u got is true stereo, i made up a left channel only 5 sec mp3 and hope all of u who think u r listening stereo mp3 can try it out, if u hear both channel playing, then it's mono!(true stereo will only show u left ear sound)

Please let us know the results so that we know which one is truely stereo. I heard people with HDS-3 claimed true stereo, hope they can confirm.

thx

Any updates?

Well, well, finally the judgment day came, bought one HS-3 from local cingular store, guess what? STEREO! i think HDS-3 should also be the same stereo from retail stores, don't ever but it from ebay if u want a stereo set, they are all cheap ones made outside with dual mono.

And there must be some circuit inside to enable this stereo, if u happened to have a true hds-3, u can open it up to take a look since it has screws, easy to open.

again, go to local carrier store get one, although little expensive, but gives u true stereo.

Not correct. I got a cheap Nokia HDS-3 stereo headset in retail packaging from eBay seller "t-dimension1". I tested using the "Oceans.mp3" soundclip, and I can only hear from the left side. It's true stereo. 6 days shipping to Canada. Not too shabby. Cheers, Sabesh.

Sabesh,

guess u r the lucky one, but i won't take any chances there.

No need to take chances. Just contact a few people who bought the product and just ask them: Which is what I did (via sellers's feedback section on eBay)
