How do you exactly use infrared?? Does your computer have to have this feature? Very confusing.. Im baffled...

you need an irda port for your computer; you can find one fo $20-40 cdn at almost any computer store

i think they're better than cables because you can use the infra red for other applications, whereas the cable will only work with your phone. it's also a lot cooler (wireless), and leaves less clutter around your terminal

if you're using xp, just turn on the ir on your phone, and line it up with the port, and the computer will recognize it. then you just transfer files -- no software to install or anything

I have IR on my laptop and my Pocket PC (iPaq 3850). I turn on "receive" on the 68i, line it up with my the port on either piece of equipment, and nothing happens.

I do a "mobile phone monitor" thing, it searches, and nothing happens.

Anyone know what I am not doing correctly?

Thanks. Turns out I needed a patch for my Toshiba, and to install the XTend Connect softwaare. Now I am actually able to IR to my t68i.

Now if I could just figure out how to do the same thing from my iPaq Pocket PC...!

I also checked around at the local PC stores, and on the web, and connot find an IR card except for buying a motherboard with it complete. So instead I ordered a bluetooth CF card that fits both my laptop and PocketPC, and a USB-to-bluetooth adapter from the desktop PC. About $100 each Cdn.

I would still like to figure out IR for my PPC, though.

Rexdale: thanks, but how do you transfer files without software? Like, what do you click or drag to do that?

@ Mike

Just go to the directory where you have stored the pic or ringtone you wanna send.

click once on the pic/ringtone doc ---> rightclick on it and copy to IR....this will send it to you phone, with IR you dont need additional software for sending

Thanks. I will give it a try.

I now have BlueTooth on the PC, Laptop, and Pocket PC... but still cannot get anything to the phone. Isn't that a hoot?

Better yet, my battery dies within 12 to 14 hours, a bit short of the advertised 220 to 260 hours. And my talk time is less than two hours. Plus, I can't even use the phone in the basement of my own house... no signal... I have to go OUTSIDE. What is up widdat?

I called Rogers AT&T and the service rep told me the phone is definitely screwed, and to take it in to a service shop.

Well, BT is 20 times more difficult to get it working compared to IR!

USB IR adapters can be easily found on eBay and in some computer shops. Most recent motherboards have built-in IR circuitry. You only need an adapter plug-in.

I looked everywhere for a motherboard with built in IR, and for daughterboards. Could not find a single one in Ottawa. Went on the Web, and IR just does not seem to be available from most board manufacturers.

IR is readily available now in printers, both laser and inkjet, in PPCs, in laptops... but no luck for desktops. Don't understand why. If you can point me to a motherboard that has it, I would sure appreciate it.

Meantime, I have BT adapters now for my PPC, laptop and desktop PC, and it definitely is a ***** getting it to communicate. All I wanna do is send my Outlook info to my T68i using BT. Argh. ... Mike

Hmm, I've got the same problem as guy above. I uploaded an .imy ringtone, and then I tried to create a wallpaper and upload that .bmp. I used the SonyEricsson image editor, and when I tried to copy it to IR I got a connection refused, saying something about invalid data. Oh well.
