Just got this phone and i am new to the IR stuff... I have searched back through older threads pertaining to the L1200 and L1400 and found this quick tutorial

"Instructions for connecting LG GSM phones via IR

This works perfectly for my L1400, and I assume it will also work for L1200 or any LG GSM phone. I get best results keeping the IR port on the phone about 1" from the IR port on my laptop.

1. Download IRCOMM2K from http://www.stud.uni-hannover.de/~ki...k-1.2.1-eng.zip
2. Install IRCOMM2K. Use a free COM port. I used COM5 and it works fine.
3. Download LGGSM (11.4 Mb) from http://uk.wowlg.com/common/proc_dow.../L1100_UK_1.zip
4. Install LGGSM.
5. Use PC Sync for phonebook, calendar, and memo.
6. In PC Sync under options set the COM port for the one you set up with IRCOMM2K; Under options, leave "enable IRComm" unchecked (yes it doesn't make sense).
7. Use LG Contents Bank to transfer ring tunes (mmf format only), images, java (note I haven't tried java), and camera images.
8. Under Tool->Option set the radio box for Infrared and select the port you set up with IRCOMM2K.
9. Use connect and everything works.

My only frustration is that images for the phonebook and sub-display (front LCD on L1400) can are only recognized if they are taken by the phone camera. Wallpaper images can be downloaded to the phone with no problem. If anyone knows a work-around I would appreciate it.

I have a Toshiba Satellite P25 S609 with Windows XP Media Center Edition. The infrared port is a SMC IrCC Fast Infrared Port. I have followed all of the instructions posted above but all i get is a time out message when i try to connect. What should my phone be doing when its trying to connect? i activate the infrared from the tools menu of the phone but after about 10 seconds the icon that appeared on the screen disappears. What is the optimal baud rate to set in Contents Bank? are there any other settings that i should look at?

Here's an update. My instructions work great for phonebook, calendar, ringtones, and downloading wallpaper photos to the camera. It doesn't work for downloading Java applications and it doesn't work for uploading photos from the camera. I think the problem lies with the software. The question is whether LG ever updated their software.

The time out problem sounds like the phone and laptop aren't seeing each other. Are you sure the infrared ports are facing each other about 1 inch apart? When I do this my icon changes to look like 2 way communication.

i have tried to get it working on several laptops to no avail. Each time i made sure that the ir ports were facing and 1" apart. maybe im doing it wrong. This is what i do:

1. start up Contents Bank
2. Activate infrared on my phone
3. Click Connect on Contents Bank

Were there any addtl settings in the LG software (i changed to IR and set the baud rate to 115700) or more specifically Windows settings that you changed?
What type of IR chip do you have installed?

nevermind i got it to work

i had it pointing at the wrong IR port on this laptop lol its a media center pc and has 2 ir ports

Just got a laptop with IR so figured I'd give this a shot. Was able to download a .mmf ringtone from the computer to the phone no problem- however couldn't get anything larger than 20kb to work (which sucks). Also, the phone won't allow you to assign anything downloaded to the "Message Alert Tones"- you have to choose one of the preprogrammed sounds. Hopefully the 20kb is not a phone max and that the L1400 software coming out will allow greater sizes.

20kb is definately not the phone max as some of the ringtones you can get from cingulars website are well over 20k... i also hope that the L1400 will allow greater sizes
