Orange (UK) branded K700i - unlocking and unbranding and re-flashing!!

Hi there.
My girlfriend has very kindly upgraded to an Orange contract in the UK and has given me the K700i she got for free with it.
As I've destroyed a phone with a bad attempted flash in the past (a T630 with a Terminator dongle) we decided to just pay Orange to do it for us. It's not sorted yet - 8 days later - but it will be.
I have a new cover for the phone, so can get rid of the external branding that way.
The firmware for the phone is only R2C001, so I will definitely want to have this upgraded.
Can I have my local SE service centre over-write the Orange firmware?? Or, can I do it myself via the SE website by using the DSS-20 cradle?
