hehehe, well knowing how crazy about the S700, it would be hard to beleive what i have done 1 hours ago. Ever since the S700 was announced i have been waiting impatiantly for the little sucker, other phones have been announced and released and the S700 is still no where to be found in the UAE. I was calling many mobile shops, and everyone tells me it should be out in a weeks time, even thought it's a week, it feels like 7 years to me! it came to point where i started thinking the S700 over, why do i want it? and what's the main thing attracting me to the S700? ....well to be honest it's mainly the super sexy slick design and the 1.3MP camera......anything else? no! the rest boils down to an K700i interface(or OS, whatever you wanna call it). Then i looked into the P910 and though it over, what's so great about that phone? honestyl? ALOT! huge screen, touchscreen, smartphone(the possibilities are endless), 60MB internal RAM, MS duo pro support, excel+ms word+pdf support, GPS....and the list goes on. even though i'm anti VGA camera in such a flagship phone, i realised the P910 has far too many good features that can easily over look the VGA cam(which is upgraded atleast). It finally hit me, and i figured the P910 would be a better investment than the S700!

so i rushed in no time to my local mobile store and shelled out 3100dirhams(UAE currency), not only that, but the store(Axiom) was giving away a SE bluetooth headset with the phone!!! it's the HBH-300 incase you guys wanted to know, i was really surprised to how light and comfy it was.

anyways, im super happy that i made this decision even though i havent used the phone yet, all i did was run the wizard like the manula instructed.

impessions later,

btw, i heard on howardsforums that you need to charge the P910i for 14 hours for the first time? is this true? it's charging now and wait is killing me!

and last but not least, i'm so sick of my Nokia 7610 and cannot wait to power on the P910i

tootles,

Marwan

Get over it... 14 hours isn't anything. Plus your 7610 is a pretty recent model anyway. What's the problem?

I know what you mean about waiting though! Just don't wait. It is a Li-Ion battery anyway. Just use it 'til it is drained and then charge it overnight or something. Repeat three or four times and you should be good to go!

(These aren't best practices, but they should hold you over for a while.)

When I get a new phone, here is what I do:

This isn't factory-recommended, but I have heard conflicting reports on what exactly is factory-recommended. No one can seem to come up with a straight answer regarding the proper conditioning of mobile phone batteries, so to get my initial fix I play with the phone until the battery is dead then I try to properly condition the unit.

That is just me. I am sure there are people out there who will tell you I am messing up my batteries. Everyone has their own idea of proper battery care.

  • Use the phone until the battery is dead, straight out of the box.
  • Once the battery is dead, charge it for like 12 to 14 hours.
  • Use it until it is dead again.
  • Charge it again for 12 to 14 hours.

i see gotcha now, i will just charge it 14 hours(i will be sleeping anyways) and start using it normal once it's done.

when i get new phones i usually charge them till the indicator turns off and that's it.

oh well, thanks for the info.

The auto key lock enables when u activate key lock with the flap closed. The p910 remembers the setting so when u open the flap and close it again.. it'll reenable keylock. So just turn off keylock ( Menu or OK button followed by * key ) when your flip is closed.

Screen Protector.. I LOVE the Martin Fields.. so check out www.doml.net or www.overlayplus.com (Pricey but WORTH it!)

MS DUO PROs are not yet, as of Oct 1, 2005, available in the 1Gig capacity.. only the 512MB (approx. $120-130).

SanDisk is just as good as Sony, without the 400% Sony Mark-UP in price.

The stylus normally shouldn't scratch up the screen, but over time (long long long time) anything can wear down the screen. I don't have any long term data on how long before the screen may get scratched up.

Hope all that helps!

I agree with that same battery conditioning protocol! I used to work as a technician for Best Buy, mainly on laptops, and would follow the same protocol for new laptop batteries. Seems to be fine... the only time you would need to charge the battery first, before draining, is if the new battery was 100% completely EMPTY. But most batteries come partially charged, so drain then charge is my answer.
