I recall there is a way to do this using some mailing service to send ringtones to the phone itself. I forgot the site though. I'm with verizon...did they get rid of it?

EDIT: Also, is there a way to make tones for receiving a text and turning the phone on/off?

you must have picture messaging enabled in your account. you know you don;t have it if you get a message saying go to the website to recieve your mail.

send an email with a ringtone attached to

your 10digetcellnumber@vzwpix.com from any email client

it will be recieved as an email to your phone. save the attachment and then you can assign it as a ringtone.

please keep in mind, ringtones can be MP3 or MID types but you must keep them 30 seconds or less, Mono, and very small bitrate or they will not play. there are a bunch of websites with ones you can download.

you can;t change the on/off sound.

you can;t assign ringtones to voicemail or textmessage tones

goodluck!

i forgot to say that this is how we do it on Verizon. sending ringtones like this is probably vendor speciific.

my advice is go to radiio shack and get the cable for the LG VX 6000. it could simplify things a bit.
