8900 with usb cable can't connect

Hey all,

I'm trying to connect my 8900 with a USB cable. When I plugged the cable in, Windows reported that it was a Curitel cable, so I installed the Curitel drivers. After the drivers are installed, I plugged the phone in. The phone goes to the blue sky screen, and I heard the normal 'usb connect' noise. Windows sees the phone, and begins to set up the driver, but it looks like the install hangs at the very end. When I unplug the phone, the install finally completes and tells me to reboot. Is this normal? Is the phone supposed to stay on when you connect it to the computer, or is my 'blue sky' screen normal?

aparently you need to plug in the cable while the flip is closed.... I, and whoever designed this phone, are idiots.

so, nevermind, everything is 5 x 5 over here.
