Sagem myX-5 and ringtones

I have a Sagem myX-5 and while I can download wallpapers fine (from my wap FTP server), I can't download any ringtones. I've tried midi, mmf, wav, etc, they all tell me "Invalid File Type" when trying to download (i used to download ringtones to my old Motorola from this FTP server). I know the phone supports WAV because when I got the phone (second hand) it had a bunch of WAVS on it, at least I think they were WAVS (there were vocals, the quality was pretty good).
I know the phone also supports some iMelody crap, but I don't understand it and there's no ringtone creator on the phone. So I want to go with wav.
I'm thinking, possibly, the reason the WAVS don't work is because they need to be a certain frequence, or have certain header information in them to be read by the cellphone? Am I right in thinking this, or not? How would I go about turning an mp3 into a wav ringtone that will work on my Sagem?
I know downloading ringtones via a magazine or TV ad works, but that costs 2 dollars and the ringtones are crap. I want to put my own on, but I can't for the life of me get anything to register as a "valid file type".
Thanks in advance!
