Samsung USB data cable!?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: johnnyo319

Hi, I just bought a USB data cable from ebay for my Samsung e316.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ssPageName=WDVW

It doesn't come with a installation CD but i thought that wouldn't matter since many USB devices have auto install. Anyway, i'm having trouble getting easyGPRS connected to my phone.

- Does anyone know where i can download the driver or software for it?
- Does anyone have this cable?

Thanks in advance everyone!

i just bought the same cable. I can't get it to work at all. You can download the usb driver everywhere. Just do a search for prolific usb to serial driver. I'm curious to see if you can get it to work.

Here is what i have done with this cable. I have downloaded the drivers new and old. Bargaincell.com has sent me instructions as well as setup file from a cd that they also sell. The cd has the drivers also.

I have tryed to make this work on my laptop with xp pro, a desktop with win98SE, a second desktop with dual boot xp pro/win2k. What ever i do easygprs kind of knows the phone is there but never goes "online". If you unplug the phone while in easygprs and press F3 to refresh you will get an error. BUT NO ONLINE. Also have tried AT commands in hyperterminal, no connection there.

In addition to my attws e316, i have tried a cingular x426/x427, although it does beep when you connect the cable (the e316 does nothing) it still will not go "online" in easygprs.

Bargaincell.com reassures me it will work, and insist that they send me another cable. The cost of sending the old cable back is really not work it.

I have heard from other forums some cables aren't wired for easygprs, but will allow flashing. I almost believe this because i tried to backup the firmware with other software, I couldn't find a profile for e316 so it didn't backup but it did seem to be talking to the phone.

Does your cable work? Let me know if you get this thing working, i'm about to buy a different cable. I think bargaincell.com has no idea if this cable works or not.

i have bought a USB samsung cable, not oem and it works for me.

Posted by: mattdraned

where did you buy it? Does it have a model number? Basically...Where can i get one just like yours???

I have to have a cable, and it has to be USB for my laptop.

Posted by: EPcjay

maybe it just a simple cofig problem. What COM port is the cable running on ?
I know that when i first installed the cable drivers amd easy GPRS, the program would not communciate with the phone.

I then found out which com port the cable was running on, and changed it in easygprs Then vola, cable and software work with phone

Posted by: mattdraned

I know for a fact it isn't the comm port. Easygprs matches the prolific drivers comm port. This is usually the problem that eveyrone has, and i read that before i bought the cable so it was the first thing i did when i installed it.

I've tried so many different comm settings in the driver and easygprs. It just flat doesn't work. It's definately the cable. Either the cable is bad, or it just simply doesn't work. Right now, i just need to know what USB cable does work so i can get one.

I'm not going to return this cable, it will cost the amount of the cable to send it back for a replacement, and i believe it still won't work.

ok, contacted bargaincell they tested the cable and said it worked via email. So i decided to call one more time to figure out what could be done. The guy tells me i need the new driver, NOT the driver they provided me.

I got it working finally. Here is what i suggest doing.

goto http://tech.prolific.com.tw/visitor/
goto download
select usb 1.1
select PL-2303 USB to Serial Bridge Controller
select the go buttom at the bottom of the page
then scroll down and select/download the
wd-pl-2303h_hx_x_v20026.zip

install this usb driver:
attach the cable
when prompted point windows to the folder with the driver
after it is installed goto device manager
find the prolific usb to serial in the "ports" section
make note of what comm port is in parenthesis

Install your easygprs
after installing:
choose file|setup
and insert the comm port that the prolific driver was using
all should light up and start working :-)

The next hurdle...the easygprs for the e316 does not allow you to transfer video! I've heard the euro version does. I will be checking that out next.

I have a Samsung e316 and I finally got my eBay USB data cable working with Easy GPRS. I figured out how to add ringtones, download pics from phone to PC and upload images to the wallpaper.

MY question is: HOw do i get the wallpapers and ringtones off of my phone?? I know there is the File manager that allows me to download cameraphone pics from the phone to pc. I can't find how to remove unwanted ringtones or wallpapers! I don't see any options that let u do it in the phone either.

ANyone know how to remove ringtones or wallpapers from a samsung e316??

any help appreciated.

i just wanted to thank mattdraned for all the info that you provided. It worked like buttah!!

Posted by: mattdraned

Your welcome!!!

Unfortunately, I don't think it can be done. It would probably require a mod or something...which would void your warranty.

I wanted to be able to change the wallpaper on the outside screen...but that can't be done either. I'm finding out their file manager isn't much of a file manager. It should be called picture manager.

Another thing...you can't transfer videos from phone to pc. Hopefully this can/will be fix in Easygprs soon.

I love this phone and will keep it for awhile, but i would like to make mod's to it. Right now my plan is to wait it out until samsung releases a firmware update for the existing bugs in the phone. Then make a decision on whether i want to void the warranty for some mod's.

BUGS::: If you don't know by now...the phone has bugs. It tends to crash (black screen) when you put alot of games, tones, pics on the phone. Backup your phonebook!!

I just wanna chime in with a big THANK YOU as well!!! I can't thank you enough. Ive been screwing with this thing for over a week browsing forums, trying every GPRS modem speed and port setting etc, etc, and all the time it turns out it was actually my USB drivers that were wrpong. I reinstalled the Prolific drivers with the ones you provided a link for and it all worked like a charm!!

Posted by: matt1801

hey guys, the website posted above to get the drivers doesn't seem to work anymore.....can anyone send them to me?

Posted by: Cassius2117

Me too, could someone send me the file, or put a link up to download it.

Posted by: Mango808

Try doing a Google search for Prolific Driver, PL-2303, pl-2303h.zip or any combination of the required filename and you might find what you are looking for.

Google search for pl-2303.zip results

Posted by: Cassius2117

I've searched google, and found lots of drivers, but they are all older then what he posted to use.

Did you even download to try them to see if they work or not? Nothing to lose and much to gain if one of them works right?

Posted by: Cassius2117

Yeah I tried a lot. None seem to work. Easy GPRS just says Offline when I open it.

Posted by: mattdraned

Checked the site...it is still working. The site is kinda weird. Select the usb to serial bridge controller. The next page will have nothing on it...the secret here is to click the "GO" button at the bottom of the page. This will give you the list of drivers.

One note, ONLY this newer driver will work on the newer cables.

matt

Posted by: mook

great stuff... got it!

now I just have to wait for my E316 to turn up!

Posted by: Cassius2117

Yeah the site is working again today. I downloaded the driver and got it installed, but Easy GPRS still says offline. I followed the steps that were listed, and the com ports are setup the same. Any ideas on what is wrong?

I believe the cable is good, because my phone does charge when its plugged in.

Some more info::

Driver Date: 6/25/2004
Driver Version: 2.0.0.26

Posted by: johnnyo319

I had the problem of EasyGPRS not being able to connect. It would work one second, then if i unplug the phone and plug it in again, it wouldn't work.

Try disconnecting wait a minute and reconnecting the USB cable on your computer. It sometimes needs to be refreshed i guess.

Posted by: tLv

hmm from hearing "usb to serial controller", does this mean you could just buy a OEM SAMSUNG SERIAL CABLE and it would still work the same as buying a USB one? ***Like uploading wall papers, downloading/uploading the images to/from the computer...if this is the case, then i'm going for the serial cable.. since ordering online seems to be a problem for me...

so when using a serial cable to connect the phone, does the computer still recognize the cable as a COM1, COM2, or COM3 etc?

anyone who knows, please let me know!

BTW, if the cable works with the E700 series, *example, E715*, it will work with the E315 right?

I have the OEM Serial Data Cable (PCB093LBE) from Samsung and I use it on my desktop and Laptop computer with an IOGear USB to Serial Adapter cable just fine. On my desktop it connects on COM3 when I use it with the adapter and when I actually use the 9 pin Serial Port on the back, it is on COM2.

As for the E700 series phones, if it is an E700 or E708, it is not the same as the E710 or E715 phones. The E700/E700A/E708 uses Easy Studio Software and a different cable (PCB133LBE) from the E710/E715 that uses the EasyGPRS software and cable (PCB093LBE). The E315 uses EasyGPRS and the PCB093LBE OEM Serial data cable.

I use the same EasyGPRS and Data cable on my computer for all my Samsung phones listed in my profile.

wow! are you from hawaii too!? puahha i'm from hawaii.. =) thanks mango for the info! so you use an adapter rather than connecting the serial directly?

so straight with serial = COM2
and With adapter to USB = COM3?

so using the PCB093LBE OEM SERIAL CABLE, i can still upload images/ download images, and upload ringtones no?

I use the USB to Serial Adapter (USB to Serial Bridge on COM3) on my desktop because I had a Serial port Scanner connected on the single Serial COM Port (COM2) on the back. I also use it without the adapter as I didn't connect the scanner this time since I now have a USB scanner instead. Since I also use it with my laptop which only has 3 USB Ports and no Serial COM Port, I just leave the adapter connected to the Cable and connect it to the USB port on both computers.

Yes, the OEM Serial Cable works the same whether I use it with or without the USB to Serial Adapter.

The one pictured below is the one that I use. I got it from Best Buy when I useto be in California. It can also be found at some CompUSA's, Circuit City, and just about anywhere computers or PDA devices are sold. There are a few other brands that work as well from Belkin and other manufacturers.

Posted by: tLv

thats sweet, thanks puahah.. hmmm is easygprs the software to download/upload ringtones and images? or will i have to download a third party one? thanks that is all =)

Posted by: Mango808

EasyGPRS is Samsungs Connectivity software for its GSM phones that lets you manage the Phonebook, SMS messages, on the phone and SIM. It also helps you manage the Schedule in the Organizer on the phone. It lets you upload images (*.jpg, *.bmp and *.gif) and sounds (*.mmf) to be used as backgrounds and ringtones as long as they are the right size both image wise and file size through the Data cable or if the phone supports it, Infrared.

For those that have Camera phones, the File Manager Function is available to you to transfer a copy of the pictures you take with the camera to your computer without having to send them off through MMS/Picture messaging. It will not let you transfer a picture back into the Pictures Folder of the phone or to your replacement phone.

The EasyGPRS software is free to download from the SamsungUSA website by going to your phones page and look for the Mobile Phone Support link on the right side of the screen which will take you to the page that you can download your phones User Manual and also the software. The EasyGPRS software is the same for each of the phones that use it as I use the same copy on my computers that I use for all my Samsungs that I have (in my profile) or tried it with (E105).

i finally bought a data cable and it works great but i want to upload MMf ringtones and wallpapers what would be a good site or program.

thank you again puahha.. now i need some input on my new thread about weither i should get a V600, E715 or e315! check it out yall! THANKS!! ^^

Either driver from Futuredial or Datapilot works for me. Use QPST an see if it behaves better then BitPim (as in my case).

Unfortunately the CDMA Samsungs don't use the same software or cables as the GSM Samsungs so those software won't even work either.

I have a a650 which is CDMA, and both driver work with the usb->serial cable I got off ebay.

Those Software QPST and BitPIM do not work for Samsung GSM phones.

EasyGPRS, Easy Sync and Easy Studio works for GSM models and not for CDMA models. The OEM Serial Cable PCB093LBE will not work on CDMA models.

yes you're absolutely right...didn't realize he/she was talking about E715 which is a GSM phone...

For those saying they get "OFFLINE" after unplugging the usb cable... IT CHANGES THE COM PORT!!

Check you device manager for the correct comm port and make the changes in easygprs settings.

Does the usb cable I bought on E-Bay work with the samsung A540 for Telus in Toronto?

HMMM?

Posted by: beebo724

I bought this data cable on ebay for my E715(T-Mobile):
eBay Data Cable link

i have tried installing the drivers listed on this thread, and it does NOTHING. On EasyGRPS it always says its offline(yes it is plugged in, yes the phone is on). When i first plug in the cable it says new hardware found and tries to install the driver. Nothing but an error installing driver. I unplug it and do it again this time i point it to the drivers i unzipped from the website. I went through all the steps at the beggining of hte post... Still nothing. When i go to Phone and Modem Options in the Control Panel and try to install new modem, Samsung GPRS Modem shows up but i cannot install it. It also says the driver is not signed or something. I get NOTHING.....NO com this or com that, NOTHING, What am i doing wrong? Is it the cable? The cable does charge the phone though, and lights up blue.

Posted by: mook

I just received the exact same data cable (from the same seller). I was able to get it set up successfully & use it with EasyGPRS. When you plug the cable in & it asks for a driver, use the mini-CD which was supplied with the cable. Once the driver installation is complete, check device manager under ports & you should have a new COM port (mine was COM4). Install EasyGPRS, & make sure it's configured for COM4. Plug your phone in & EasyGPRS should see it!

I originally thought I would have to use the drivers mentioned earlier in this post also, but then I found the CD in the box!

Does anyone know if the cable for the A650 is the same as X426? because the charger for both of them appear to be the same connector. Thanks in advance

PS: can you load Telus A650 using the datacable?

EasyGPRS is only written to accept a Serial com port cable with 9 pins. A USB cable is NOT a serial com port cable and will not be recognized by EasyGPRS because the program is searching for a COM port, not a USB port. Com ports in a computer have a capacity of up to 8 devices, USB can accept up to 127 devices. Com ports use interupts, USB ports do not. Unless the bridge driver mentioned in a previous post can translate the USB port data to communicate (or bridge) internally in your computer system to a specified com port then you will never get EasyGPRS to recognize there is anything connected to your USB cable. These are two different animals folks, a COM port and a USB port can not be just interchanged. A USB port is much faster than a COM port. I just wanted to clarify all of the confusion I am reading on the previous posts because from what I read a lot of people dont seem to understand they are apples and oranges.
I just purchased a Samsung e315 and then bought a USB data cable from eBay at BargainCell. I was very disappointed after I received the cable and downloaded EasyGPRS to find out that the program only accepts COM ports and requires a SERIAL cable! At this point I realized there is no way I am going to get it to recognize my USB cable. However, and here is some hope, after reading the previous post about the USB to COM port bridge driver I am giving it a second chance before I purchase a Samsung serial cable. I am going to try and get the bridge driver to work and I will keep you up to date on my progress. If anyone has been successful with the bridge driver and using a USB cable with EasyGPRS please let me know. I would also like someone to send me the latest bridge driver software because when I tried to go to the link provided it was unavailable and from what Ive read the lastest drive is required. Hope this helps clarify everything on these posts.

It's a PITA to get the Non-OEM USB cable to work even with the driver that comes with the cable on CD. The Prolific drivers can be finicky to get working, but as others have posted, it isn't impossible.

I use the OEM one with a USB to Serial adapter that I mentioned on the second page.

computers do what u tell it too... not what u want them to... with this being said dont say something doesnt werk if it isnt properly configured.....

my car doesnt go when i step on the gas sometimes...
during these times the car is either off or in neutral or park... = )

OK... now for the person in the previous post that has the e315 and cable from BarginCell off of ebay, i have the same setup and EasyGPRS has worked fine for me.... the drivers provided on the CD i think emulate a com port for the USB cable.. not sure if this is the case... but at any rate it works... what u need to do is.....

*in WINDOWS XP*

1.) Plug the cable into an available USB Port.
2.) When the pop up that says new hardware found insert the CD that is provided, or download the drivers from, http://users.rowan.edu/~liangd39/usb%20driver.zip ,and point the wizard to the location of the driver on the cd or in the folder in which you UNZIPPED the zip...
3.) Find out what port is associated with the cable, press "windows key + Pause Break key" to bring up the system information or do this manually by going to control panel > system
3a.) click the "Hardware" tab > Device Manager > Ports
Now next to usb cable( i think this it what it is) there will be (COMX) now open up EasyGPRS
4.) In EasyGPRS go to settings and make sure the COM port is the same as COMX in the previous step.....
5.) by darn i think i got it...

** the above will prob werk in 98, and ME i dont think it werks for 95

in the zip file there are drivers for 98 ME and XP and instructions....(one line)..

if ne1 can get java midgets to an e315 e316 or e317 please let me know...

hey mook which one did you buy?

or

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5733634751&rd=1

??

Thanks.

Well if you connect it without configuring it properly, it won't work. I can connect a printer to my computer, but if I don't configure it with the right drivers, it won't print or work right. You can take over instructing others how to setup the USB data cable and EasyGPRS properly as I'm tired of repeating myself over and over about them. Not to mention all the PM's I've had asking for help on it. Hope you start getting them instead of me.

What are java midgets? WAP is the only way I heard of getting them on the phone if it supports it.

To the person in the previous message, I thank you for your advice and am humbled to say that your instuctions worked perfectly. You are correct in saying that the supplied USB drivers on the small CD disk that came with the cable seem to emulate a com port. This is probably what was mentioned in a previous post as performing a bridge in Windows XP. I was not only able to get EasyGPRS working but also got the GPRSwizard up which allows me to send out messages from my desktop through my e315 as a wireless GPS modem. There was only one function that I was not able to get working in the 30 mins I spent on it all and that was uploading to the phone in the file manager. Only the download of photos seemed to work there. EasyGPRS comes with a nice collection of polys and pics, of which all upload very nicely. I am more impressed with the e315 now that all of this is working. Thanks to qvverty187 for the procedure, you knew the trick which allowed this cable to work here Regards, w4mk

Cassius - what versions of windows are u using? does windows detect new hardware when u plug it in? is there ne hardware conflicts?

Posted by: R3dRum-22

ok i've been trying for hours. I installed everything and followed all of the steps in previous replies, yet there is nothing in the Port section of the device manager. Its supposed to say prolific something but theres only something under Modem and Universal Serial Bus. NONE of the steps helped and now im stuck with a lousy data cable and a bunch of ringtones on my computer i can't even use. PLEASE HELP ME!

Posted by: R3dRum-22

oh and btw, im using windows xp and when i plug it in it recognizes the phone as a modem. No hardware conflicts as far as i know

Posted by: w4mk

This procedure from a previous post by qvverty187 worked for me after I downloaded EasyGPRS from the Samsung web site.

You may need to uninstall the USB driver and the Samsung modem and start from scratch after a reboot. I first installed the driver that came with the USB cable, then plugged in the cable and it recognized it. Then checked my device manager and made sure it was set to either Com1, 2, or 3 since EasyGPRS only has these 3 ports listed in their drop down menu. In DM is should be listed in both areas, USB controllers and Ports. If its not set to Com 1, 2 or 3 you may need to change its properties. Then start EasyGPRS and go to setup. Set the Com port to match and plug in your phone. They should link up. Then run GPRS Wizard and it should prompt you to install the Samsung Modem, follow the prompts and it should appear in your DM modems section. Once you fill in the wizards form you should be able to send emails using your desktop computer and samsung phone, wirelessly.

to remove ringtones and wallpapers from the e316 you have to do it on the phone itself. Go to the funbox and its lists sounds and pictures and if you open you will find all the stuff that you downloaded. Then you can select one and it gives you the option to delete it.
Just a note you can only delete the ones that you installed, not the factory installed stuff

Posted by: R3dRum-22

ok heres the thing, you said GPRS will prompt me to install the Samsung modem and after it will list in the DM. BUT, when i install the Samsung USB Composite Device, right after it will tell me that there is new hardware (which is the Samsung CDMA Modem). SO in other words, instead of installing the drivers when the computer recognizes it and then installing the Phone modem when GPRS tells me to once i see the COM port in the DM, the New Hardware Wizard says that right after the drivers from the cd are finished installing, then right after i must install the phone modem otherwise the wizard says there was an problem and the hardware didn't install corectly.

ALSO! When im installing the drivers, a warning pops up saying that these drivers and also the ones on the cd are not logo certified or something like that, and it says Continue or STOP Installation. Could this also be a problem or do u ppl get the same thing?

before i plug in the USB cable and install those drivers, should i install the PL-2303 USB to serial bridge controller? or should i leave out that step since its not in the steps that are posted?

Posted by: w4mk

1. Ignore the unsigned drivers message, this is harmless. It simply means they have not yet received MicroSofts blessing on the driver and your using it at your own risk.

2. I didn't have to use the bridge controller software, it appears the one that came with my cable (from ebay, see my previous post for the link) was able to bridge the USB port to the COM port under Windows XP Professional.

If it wants to install the Samsung modem go ahead and pick it from the list, that should not be a problem. What really seems to make all the difference is that the USB cable be listed in your DM hardware under both USB and COM sections and that it is one of the COM ports allowed in the EasyGPRS software selection.

theres no problem for the USB showing up in the USB section. It just does not show up in the Ports section

Posted by: qvverty187

R3dRum-22 - have u tried removing the drivers, restarting with the cable unplugged.... then plugging it in and reinstalling the drivers? 2 things.. make sure u click continue when the warning pops up about unsigned drivers as some1 mentioned previously... and when it prompts to install the modem make it install it on all COM ports to be on the safe side.... good luck..

This is the problem most are having even after they get it working, it disappears from the ports section, unless they keep the USB cable connected at all times.

If you install it on all COM ports, you tend to end up taking up another devices COM port thereby making more problems for yourself. If it's on your Desktop computer, you need to either keep it plugged in to the same port or get some of those 4+ USB port adapter if you have more USB devices that you use all the time.

Posted by: qvverty187

not to start any trouble or beat a dead horse but..... On my WINXP system i have no problems with unplugging and replugging the cable in.... i could be the black sheep in this case but just thought i would put it out there that some1 has gotten it to work flawlessly....

Posted by: R3dRum-22

how would i tell the computer to install the modem on all COM ports?

Posted by: R3dRum-22

ok, i went into the modem section in the DM and saw that there was Samsung CDMA Modem. I double clicked that and went to advanced and then i went to Advanced Port Settings where i made it COM3. This still doesn't show in the Ports section in the Device Manager and also i put in COM3 in EasyGPRS and it says nothing there. I dunno if i have the right COM port because it wasn't under the Ports section. hmmmmmmmmm, this is my 9th try for installing this garbage and im getting frustrated. HELP ME PLEASE

Posted by: w4mk

It sounds like you got the Samsung Modem installed OK on Com3, but you still seem to be missing the USB cable on COM 3. Try uninstalling the USB Data Cable from your DM (if it currently exists) under the section for USB Devices near the bottom of the list. If it doesnt exist then you need to first install the cable driver (bridge controller software) that came with your Samsung USB cable. Then when you plug in the USB cable after the driver is installed it should detect it and automatically assign it to COM 3. I know its frustrating but it needs to be done in a particular sequence to work. Uninstall, reboot, install software, plug in cable, in that order.

No it's not supposed to. I have that modem thingy installed supposedly it uses COM3, and I don't have a "COM3" under my Device Mananger Ports section. QPST (I don't use EasyGRS as my phone is CDMA) works with the thing via "COM3" absolutely no problem so I don't know if EasyGRS wants an actual "port". If that's the case try the driver from http://www.datapilot.com/ instead.

Posted by: R3dRum-22

HyperYagami,

When using QPST when i select my phone in the menu of the EFS Explorer, and i push OK, it says i enterd in the wrong Service Programming Code. Why is this and how do i fix this? Other than that, it recognizes and communicates with my phone as it is in the list in the QPS Configuration, just gotta know what the SPC (service programming code is)

Is there a program that someone knows will work for the a660?

sorry bro don't know what your problem is. But EasyGPRS does NOT work with CDMA phones (a670 is CDMA).

Can anyone recommend a program to transfer photos and ringtones and stuff like that to my phone? I have an SCH-A670 CDMA phone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Posted by: w4mk

It looks like this might do what you're looking for...

http://www.westsidecellular.com/sto...ngdatakit1.html

There were a few more places that had some other software as well; so do a search for "SCH-A670 Software" on Google and investigate some of the sites.

i have recently purchased a usb cable with software for my phone (E600) :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....6339649368&rd=1

im really stuck and confused. using gprs wizard, it wont connect, just says AT command error and pop up will say modem not responding.
in hardware devices, it says usb port is on com 4. but everything else says com1.
also, as someone was saying earlier. when i install usb it tells me to now install the modem, but its already there. after that it windows will say they have found new hardware again.
on one of the programs, i have managed to go into a file and pick something to transfer to my phone but there is nothing under phone (the phone u want to send it to).
i dont think my phone has been recognised yet, how can i put this right.

Posted by: Cassius2117

I have WinXP. I checked the device manager and I'm not getting anything showing up under usb devices. It only shows up in the com ports.

I didn't install the modem when it tried to do that, I thought that was just for using the internet on a laptop or something through the phone. Is the modem necessary for easygprs to work?

I don't use it to surf the internet through it either, but the modem still needs to be installed as it is through this pathway that the computer and phone communicates.

5.) by darn i think i got it...

i do that and all i get is usb virtual serial port in the ports part od DM. it doesnt install ne modems or it does not show up in the usb listing in DM

im using the drivers included in the cd that came with my data cable

on my phone is says USB Connected so i kno its connected for sure

Posted by: highcontrast

ok just need to clarify some stuff.

i just received usb cable from bargancell and have installed easygprs. i also have a lot of zipped .mmf files. How do I preview these ringtones before uploading them? Do I have to have the phone connected (online) in ezgprs before I am able to preview and upload?

I am at school and don't have the usb cable but I just want to preview the ringtones so I can upload the ones I want when I get home. Can I do that?

Posted by: UraBk

with EasyGprs u can only preview ringtones if the usb cable is plugged into the phone and says your phone model on the bottom.. but im sure theres other programs you can download that play just .mmf's

Posted by: Jafferman2004

now i can get it so its installs as Samsung usb composite device and it installs the samsumg modem right after, but nothing comes up in the ports part of DM.

SCH-A620 on COM3: The phone is not responding while transitioning mode from none to brew.
the samsung modem is configured on port 3.

Has anyone tried using the phone as a modem for your pc to connect to the internet? I got it to work fairly easily, but the transfer rate that the phone shows is 14.4kbit/s. Windows XP shows connection speed as 230kbit/s. I tried messign with the phone setup, there is data baud rate, tried changing to different setting, but that didn't seem to work. Is 14.4kbit/s a limit that the phone can connect at? I know Verizon offers broadband internet access for your phone, for like 80 bucks/month. I just want a dialup like access with 56kbit/s speeds through the phone. Is there a way to set it up?

i have an OEM cable and an X105 , i downloaded easygprs from samsung even an after market one, and when i connect the cable to my phone it beeps, then easy gprs connects then takes forever to sync, for the phone book it says i have like 160000 entries when i know the phone only has 1000 entries and im using like 200 of them after a while, it says sumthin like max entries = 163452 entries on phone=164000

is my software corrupt or am i using the wrong things!! i bought a usb cable before ad that one dint even do anything so i returned it and forked over 20£ for this one!!!!

can some one please confirm that the cable for an X105 is PCB093LBE

and that the software for it is Easy GPRS v2.0.2

Posted by: Mango808

fantaboy,

Try downloading any EasyGPRS version from 2.1.2 to 2.1.8 to use with your X105.

Samsung Funclub EasyGPRS links

Posted by: grammy2noah

Does anyone know where I can get version 2.1.6? Samsung no longer has it on their site. I have downloaded version 2.1.8, but when I disconnect the phone from the cable all the data is no longer in the phone book in EasyGRPS - I never had that problem with the earlier version and unfortunately had to format over the weekend and lost it.

Thanks in advance.

Posted by: Mango808

Did you make a backup of your phonebook in the program?

That's the only way for the data to be in the program even when you disconnect the phone if you did save a copy.

I have my phonebook saved on my computer in the program and I use it to copy them to my new Samsung phones when I get them or get them all to have the same entries when I do put new ones on one of my phones.

Posted by: ltalis

is it possible to somehow change the external lcd of the e316 with a usb cable??

Posted by: grammy2noah

There is nothing that I can see to backup the phone book other than exporting it which I have done. I didn't have to save the phone book as far as I can remember with 2.1.6. Even after exporting it, the phone book does not show the contents when the phone is unplugged. This was not the case with the previous version.

Anyone have the 2.1.6 version I could get from you?

Thanks for trying to help.

Posted by: Mango808

I haven't used the Export function in the program as I just Copy and Paste in the program using the method below.

In 2.1.8 with your phone connected, select PhoneBook in the top left corner, then select Phone MS or Phone SIM in the lower left window to show your phonebook in the Phone or SIM.

Next highlight the first entry on the right side window, Right Click and Select All, then Right Click again and select Copy.

Next Click on the Computer in the lower left corner and the Phone Book will be clear. (Don't worry you are just moving to view what is in the computer)

Place the Cursor anywhere in the empty PhoneBook screen (yellow side), Right Click and Paste.

It will say Copy... in the lower left part of the program for a while then it should say Copy successful.

Now you should have a backup copy of your phonebook in the program. If you want to copy or delete the phonebook on your phone or to a new phone just do the same process except choose what you need to do (i.e. copy or delete).

I have been able to do this so that all my phones have the same Phonebook loaded in the phones memory. I also used this to copy the entries to my SIM and then used the Copy all from SIM to Phone function in my other (non-Samsung) phones to get them on my SE T637 and Nokia 6230b instead of re-typing them in again. Then I deleted them from my SIM as I prefer not to have anything on it.

Posted by: grammy2noah

Thanks for the detailed instructions. It worked... thanks! I didn't have to do that with the earlier version. But at least this works and that's awesome. Thanks again.

I've never seen a USB dat cable for the X427 at a RadioShack. They only carry data cables for the Samsung CDMA phones not Samsung GSM ones. The Future Dial and SnapMedia cables do not work for the GSM model phones. You will need to get one of the USB cables mentioned from ebay or some other online store that has them. The one pictured below is the one to look for on ebay.

I take it you already unzipped the files. From what I understand, when you connect the cable, the computer will detect the new hardware and attempt/ask you for the driver to install. When it does, you point the install driver to the folder with the unzipped files and it will install them according to the ser2pl.inf file.

my usb cable has been working perfectly with gprs for past 3 weeks but today when i plugged in my phone and loaded gprs, it said "offline"!! i tried to install the prolific driver again and no luck. the usb cable is charging the phone ok so the cable shouldn't be screwed up. i looked at the device manager and there is no more COM4, wtf?!?!?!

can anyone help me out??

I have the cable shown above for the Samsung GSM phones. I bought it off eBay for my e315 but ended up trading the phone in after I got the cable. If anyone is interested in buying it I will sell it for $8.00 plus $2.00 for shipping. Send me an email at w4mk@suntech.net and I'll get it shipped out to you. It comes with the CD that allows a bridge connection between a USB port and a Serial COM port. It works with the Samsung GPRS software that you can download off their web site. I take Paypal at the email address above.

Where did you find it? I am having trouble with my P735 and USB Cable

Posted by: Icebolt5

There has to be someone that has figured out how to make the P735 work with a USB cable. I have installed every driver that is listed in this thread, but nothing worked. When I hooke the P735 up, I get a message about a WMC app needing to be installed, but the driver I downloaded from here does not install for that hardware item.

I ordered the cable from eBay, and I made sure to get the one with the Samsung sticker on it, so it is an official cable. I do have a serial cable, but it does not fit the P735, only the E715/E315.

Thanks for any advice.

Posted by: voigts

At least I am not alone. I also bought the same cable from bargaincell off of Ebay for a Samsung d415, which is listed as being the same cable as the previously mentioned e315. I have also tried the newest prolific driver, uninstalled and reinstalled the cable and Easy GPRS, have the Com ports and settings the same, and when I start Easy GPRS, I get nothing and then offline showing. This is ridiculous, and I am not a computer novice. I am wondering if this cable is just a no-go. If anyone has anything else in the way of drivers that might work, please don't leave me in suspense!

Ditto on all points. Except I think my cable works because it does start charging the phone. If I didn't get at least that, then I would think its a dud... but otherwise, *something* has to be working.

Posted by: voigts

I am even hesitant to get an IRDA adapter instead of this cable. If the cable won't work, who is to say that an adapter will work?

I never thought about using the infrared, but I guess that is a viable option. I really only wanted the cable incase I wanted to Flash/firmware modify the phone.. but I never did that with my other Samsungs and only dared to try it on my E715 after I got a new phone. I am only really going to transfer pictures to/from the phone and rings.

I have 2 other ideas right now as well:

1) Since a serial cable for the P735 is way expensive on eBay, I was thinking of ordering one for a LG VX6000 as the car charger that came with my phone is for that model and works fine. This cable might be cheaper, I havent looked into it yet.

2) I am also thinking of cutting my E715 serial cable and splicing the USB connector to it... in sense, making a Serial cable, with the larger end... but I dont want to destory both cables.

Someone has to know the solution to get the USB to work, when the drivers here dont. I am not a novice with computers, I have tried every trick in my book to get WinXP to take the driver. I wish Samsung/Someone would release something for Mac OSX... it just works

Posted by: roach1218

I am getting a ? in my device manager after installing the prolific driver and then installing the cable

windows XP can't find any driver files to get the device (cable) working - this is frustrating

any help ??

the driver file talked about is just an .exe - no other files for device manager to find

thanks

Posted by: illini_joel

I have the same problem many of you are having. When I plug in the phone it comes up as an unkown device. Then when I attempt to change the driver manually, Windows won't let me. I'm wondering if there is a way in the registry or something to override what device manager will let me do.

Seems like there should be something in addition to the prolific driver that tricks XP into thinking is it seeing a serial device.

If I can't get to work soon, I'll probably just buy the "OEM" cable for $20 off eBay.

Posted by: roach1218

I gave up and ordered an OEM cable from Ebay
This ×××× USB to Serial thing is a piece of S**T
so much for plug and play in windows

back to good old serial (Com) ports for me

$10.99 plus shipping on ebay - hope this cable works !!!!

Posted by: fantaboy00

thas what i ended up doin i mustve went through 5 usb cables, in the end OEM is the only one that cuts it even for my nokias and motos

Posted by: bric

I just received my USB cable yesterday and installed it. works fine, it also ame with a CD.it uses one driver that is installed with the mbt that came with motorola tho.

Posted by: illini_joel

turns out the bargain cell guys sent me the wrong cable (said for Samsung A660 on it) so maybe this will work with the proper cable....so anyone that is having no luck might check and see if they have the proper cable.

Posted by: willy281

I was having a lot of problems with the cable until I followed the directions on this post. Thank you for posting the correct drivers. It works great for me. If you are having problems make sure you check in the device manager under ports. Have the prolific USB-to-Serial set to COM 3. After I changed that everything worked great.

Hey guys

ok so I got an unlocked Samsung E316 (originally locked on Rogers, but now used on FIDO)
I got the cable but this mofo doesn't wanna do anything, I tried the CD that came with it, nothing, I tried to download the drive, got it, doesn't recognize it, I went to different sites about this and that, nothing works.

When I plug in the cable (USB) it says unrecognized.....window error something.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong? or is it because it was unlocked? I also noticed I cannot surf on this phone (service unavailable).

Help~

has anyone actually been able to get this cable "Click Here" to work?

I have followed all the directions in the thread with no success

easy gprs knows the phone is there but won't go "online"

Thanks

Posted by: truzoom

I just ordered this cable, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5765248600&rd=1

and it worked flawlessly. Downloaded easyGPRS from the samsung.co.uk site since apparently its taken off the american site.

All you do is plug in the usb, insert the driver cd, when windows asks for the driver point it to the cd rom, (it might ask to install twice), finish installation, then go to device manager under control panel and look for it (should be under Ports (COM & LPT). You need to get the assigned COM value, mine was COM4, then set easygprs to that COM port, and you're ready to go.

Posted by: CRX A4

I did that with no luck, easy gprs will respond when i disconnect the cable and reconnect it, but when i actually plug the phone into the cable, nothing happens

Posted by: truzoom

The issue might be with the connection, as even mine didn't fit perfectly since the two raised nubs on one side were too close in.

If anything, your cable is defective and you can probably get a replacement from the ebay seller if it isn't too late.

Does anyone know the restrictions of transferring ringtones to a x426? I'm using the Yamaha wave -> smaf (mmf) converter and then transfer the ringtone to my phone, however it seems file size over 60kb or song length over 10sec cannot be transferred as I get some kind of error. It's not an "out of memory" error. Also does anyone know how much the x426 can hold? There's no option on the phone to check the memory capacity. Please help, I can't find this information anywhere else. Thank you.

40Kb or less per ringtone.

The memory is only 300Kb and it is shared for downloading ringtones and wallpaper images. If you put any 40Kb voicetones, you will be limited to only three and a few wallpapers if that.

You seem to be desprate to upload games with usb cable. First you have to check the cable connector which goes into phone, if it is similar to charger then you can not upload games to phone with data cable. You can also check by entering #*536963# on the main screen.

Go to http://www.samsung.co.uk

Go to support, software downloads, pick the D500 as your phone and you should be able to download EasyGPRS.

It shoudl be somewhere in that site.

Ok... I've gotten the stupid cable to work with an e315 as far as reading into EasyGPRS. The problem is that the GPRS Wizard still won't connect to the internet. The error log shows something about the phone not responding when the software is "trying to get its attention" or something like that. I managed to do most of the setup to EasyGPRS without the help of HoFo or anyone else, but now I need help. If I set up a connection in XP manually and have it dial *99* or whatever, it says that the computer connects to the network but then it gets kicked off like 3 seconds later. The T-Mobile Internet software doesn't recognize the phone either. It errors out when you try to connect. Anyone know how to get this working through XP Dial-Up, GPRSWizard, or T-Mo Internet Manager?

I got it working finally. Here is what i suggest doing.

goto http://tech.prolific.com.tw/visitor/
goto download
select usb 1.1
select PL-2303 USB to Serial Bridge Controller
select the go buttom at the bottom of the page
then scroll down and select/download the
wd-pl-2303h_hx_x_v20026.zip

install this usb driver:
attach the cable
when prompted point windows to the folder with the driver
after it is installed goto device manager
find the prolific usb to serial in the "ports" section
make note of what comm port is in parenthesis

Install your easygprs
after installing:
choose file|setup
and insert the comm port that the prolific driver was using
all should light up and start working :-)

The next hurdle...the easygprs for the e316 does not allow you to transfer video! I've heard the euro version does. I will be checking that out next.

Hey! Is there a way to upload videos and mp3s to my SGH-p735 via the usb cable?? Or through the infrared port?

My phone has an mp3 program pre-installed on it, but I can't figure out how to upload videos or mp3s!!

Also, I have a separate memory card for the phone if that would help any.

No, the Samsung software doesn't support transfering video or mp3.

Better off just getting a card reader to put your videos and mp3 files on it and then put the card in your phone. Less complicated and faster. I put video and mp3 files on my TransFlash/MicroSD card using a card reader for my D600. I did the same thing for my Nokia 6230b and the MMC it uses as the data cable/bluetooth method was a bit slow in its transfer.

i downloaded PCLink for Gsm and GPRS wizard and for some reason it is telling me that my fone is not connectd to the computer when i have it connected to a usb cable .. if someone could tell me what i need to do or download or send me the links to something that would help me out, i would appreciate it! -- thank you very much!

If you don't have the correct drivers and properly installed the software and modem driver on a COM port, you won't be able to get it to work.

Samsung didn't make a USB data cable for that phone as they used the older 9-pin serial COM port connector cable that the V200 and some of the other earlier Samsungs used. Don't ask me about getting the after market cable to work as I won't help any further.

i bought an ebay cable and I guess I got lucky for my sister's x427m, bought it with a car charger like 6 months ago, didn't have a driver cd, and today downloaded a UART driver for the cable and it works with gprs, ringtones, etc. Dont need to connect with it since I dont have a data plan, but mine turned out to be missing the important inf file for it to work.

I have a Samsung E715 and I'm using Infrared with it to my laptop. It works fine, and I think it might be a little better with USB. Anyone else using this combo? I also found I can still make and receive calls while using the GPRS, although I have to use a headset so the phone continues to "see" the IR port on the rear of the computer. Interesting!

Go into your setup of modems, and click on the USB setup instead of the actual phone/modem. That may cause it to be recognized properly.

Did you ever get the GPRS program? If your phone is Samsung, you can download it from their website. If you still need the program let me know.

I have downloaded file manager and bitpim. Every single time I plug my phone into the usb port, says usb device not recognized. i have also downloaded the usb driver. Still says not recognized. i have even tried updating the driver, and it tells me that the driver is not suitable. How can I get this phone to connect to my PC!??!?! Thanks in advance!!!

Why are you using BitPim? I thought BitPim was for CDMA phones.

Try using Samsung PC Studio II, you might have more success. Oh yeah, be sure to change the COM port on that program, to match what your USB driver has set it up to be.

Tried that, still same error. This is getting on my nerves......
