Can I use Mobile Office (or anything) on Linux?

I have an older laptop that just cannot run newer OS's. I have been told to install Linux on it since it has very low requirements. I currently connect to the internet on my laptop via the phone. I am wondering if there will be any way to do this on a Linux system. Any help? I am lost.

BitPim for wallpapers and ringers and phone book

runs on multiple operating systems

if you have an older laptop on Linux you will need to find a serial cable to match your phone.. that's going to be more of a problem than anything else ( I think )

because if Linux has an option for generic modem you should be able to do the s/w connection

but how old is it.. a 386 ?

I used to connect with my qualcom slimline 860 on my 486 laptop with windows 95 no problem..

but 95 doesn't support USB

if your version of Linux will support USB , it will be easier to do the setup, because the USB to serial cables are readily available

Hey, thanks for the reply.

It is a 300MHz, 96MB RAM Pentium. I have XP on it now but that is just murder. I need an OS with low requirements but that can still browse the web and not take 9 minutes to start up. It has a USB port and I have the cable and everything. But my concern is mainly the USB Cable drivers and the Phone modem drivers.

I'm running a Compaq aramada 1700 with a 300mhz P2,, windows 2000 Pro , NO problems

I think win 98SE or Win 2000 , either one would work well
