mpx200 + wifi can it be done?

Well I'm all suer happy now that I finally got a new laptop and a wireless connection in my house. Anyhow, I was wondering if one could use one of those SD/WIFI cards that SanDisk makes to access the internet connection in my house? I mean that'd be cool. If not I'll save the 4-5 or 6 hundred dollars (I'm not spending more than 6 hundred) on the new MPX220. I have a Toshiba Bluetooth card I've had for a year but never used. Be a good reason to break it in. Maybe I can figure out how to access the net (a dial-up ISP) from the cell phone? I've heard you can't but I'm sure there's an unlimited internet access option offered for the EDGE service by AT&T. Well hope you guys can help.

Thanx

i think it's not possible so far... i've read that although the mpx200 has the sd card slot.. the problem is in the sd+wifi card, which doesn't happen to hav the drivers for that phone, i think i read that mpx220 doesn``t have support right now (same reason). Hopefully thereīll be a card that makes it happen! not sure though, coz i think motorola is just reserving wifi 4 the mpx only

Microsoft.com they sell the sd card wi-fi B protocol card for 80 some dollars, you can go on the site and check it

The MPX220 has a mini-sd card slot not a standard sd card. And while the processor of the 220 is capable of wifi there has not yet been a mini-sd wifi card created.........yet? Search for mini-sd cards and you will see the difference.

the mpx220 has a mini SD card, no SDIO support and does not function with EDGE.

i guess 3 out of 3 strikes means you wont be spending that $600.

peace,

Have you tried loading the software or flex from a mpx220 on it? this could help a lot if we can find out to try. motclub hasnt posted one yet so we need to sniff one out to try.

um...mpx220 has a mini-sd slot on the side of the phone. its not under the battery like the smt5600.

Doah! I removed my post.

But that still sucks. Is there going to be enough of a market of phones w/ miniSD on the side to make it worth designing a miniSD WiFi card?

hopefully...im thinking about getting a mpx220 when i get some cash cuz its soo expensive. the one thing id really love on it is wifi. lets start a petition and send it to some company that makes wifi cards

The location may be different for the memory card. But the chipset may still be same as it usaully is in a series. Here is what I could pull up on flashing the mpx200, hopefully the instructions will work on the whole mpx series as the usaully do for any series. This should help us in our quest to modding our phones. im not here very often so please feel free to email me at webmaster@studio505.net

MPx200 Firmware thread at MPx200.org.

... where you can find link to current mirror, where this firmware is located (we donīt provide direct link because if the mirror changes it gets updated in the thread there).

Please note: there is no way to come back from this update so we recommend everybody who considers to use this firmware to look through the posts in the main thread about this firmware (in the above mentioned link).

Excerpt from the insruction manual of this Motorola MPx200 firmware upgrade follows.

This procedure will re-flash your phone to any firmware file. It will not back up any previous firmware version. Be 100% sure to save your personal data before proceeding as it will wipe the phone clean! This procedure is not reversible. Installation of USB driver for Handset

Unzip the driver file to your hard drive (smartfon.inf) from Compass

Power off the phone.

Hold the left direction key.

Plug in the USB cable.

Windows 2000 should launch a splash which indicates that a new USB device is found.

Then a hardware wizard is launched.

Press Next to continue.

Search for a suitable driver and press next button.

Check "Specify a location" and press Next.

Browse and select smartfon.inf from where you saved the file on your hard drive to install Smartphone 2002 Wireless Modem driver.

Press Yes to continue the install.

Finally check the computer manager, and a Smartphone 2002 Wireless Modem should appears in Modems.

Download the new software

Unzip the latest s/w file (such as: BEN5-0400-012.bin)

Save this file to your hard disk

Starting PC UpgrageWizard
