modding T637

I have an obsession with metal. One thing that makes me sad is that the T637 doesn't seem to come with metallic housing. Does anyone if there is metallic housing available for this phone and if it can be switched easily?

Or better yet, can a t616 housing be slapped on the T637? I'm guessing the chances are slim, but please let me know thanks.

Hey man, are we of the same mind or what. I had a T616 and when I saw the specs on the T637 - especially the screen - I was all about getting one. But I was never really fond of the plastic housing.

Anyway, I grabbed a T637 up from Cingular and put it into a brand new T616 housing from an unused phone I had. This was easier than buying a new housing as there was no need to swap vibrators, etc. It works absolutely flawlessly. I used the "Guide to Opening a T610" found here in the SE Modding forum - you should too. And you can definitely do it without risking screwing up your phone if you're a bit patient with 2 steps in particular.

1.) When you take off the arial cover on the T637, it's much easier if you remove the camera lens bezel first. Try not to use metal to pry the arial cover off, it could scratch or warp the housing. It's a real pain to get off.

2.) You can just take all the guts AS IS out of the T637 and drop them right into the T616 (again, easier if you swap with an actual T616 rather than just buying an OEM case - BUT THERE IS ONE EXCEPTION. You MUST use the circuit board under the keypad from the T616 because the one on the T637 does not line up with the T616 keys. This is not too complicated, just be sure you open the ZIF sockets all the way prior to attempting to insert the connector otherwise you may bend it and cause yourself a headache.

That being said, this is the first and only phone mod I've ever done, and when I tell you it came out perfectly, I ain't kiddin'. I highly recommend it.

Let me know!

Ciao,
-VNY
