VX4500 BitPim Port Problems

My roomate has a vx4500 and we just got the cable for it. We have installed all of the latest drivers, get the latest version of BitPim, and selected the phone from the settings. When I go to get data from the phone, the error comes up Auto-Detection Error, was not able to detect the open port. Anyone help us out with this???
