ok, i have a GU 87 from AT&T and i checked the "firmware" (is that the word?) version and its A38...

all i really want to do is turn off the camera sound, but reading this forum has gotten me EXTREMELY confused...

from what i understand, i needed to grab a data cable and "flash" my fone A39 nosound...

is there no other way to do this but through this "flashing"... this whole "downgrade use X program upgrade use Y program then reboot etc etc" is really confusing to me...

thx for ur help in adv ^_^

No, it is a liability issue where Panasonic (or other mobile camera manufacturers are concerned). Someone has hacked the sound out of the firmware (basically set the amplitude of the sound to all silence, the sound is still there).
If you want it removed, you must flash it with hacked firmware. Enjoy, because, to date, no one has hacked X70 and I have heard that all x700 firmware is hardware encrypted. Multiple locks for the sw loading tool, a different one for unencrypting the software and a third one for the special cable required to load the software. Guess Pana got pretty upset with us for hacking GD87.
