Painful beep with caution triangle

I have a P800 with T-Mobile service, and I've noticed that on every call I make, a yellow caution triangle appears with an exclamation point in the center. I've heard this indicates something like an insecure connection with T-Mobile. While I could care less about that, whenever my phone's not on silent mode, the triangle is accompanied by an extremely loud beep, which hurts my ear.
What's the deal here, and how can I make it stop?
