Well well I have seen it now....we have received the rebate form for Motorola MPx220 today it is going to be $30 with one year and $50 with two year. Not sure on when the phone is comming or what time price is.

Posted by: PPCMD

Well maybe the ATTWS ROM is better, hopefully.

It's also available online: http://rebates.att.young-america.co...61-103-34-1.pdf

This matches up with the $269 pricing someone else suggested a while back. 420-70 is 350. 350-80 is 270. Sounds right to me...

I'm glad I have mine now, with a updated ROM and everything...

What improvements have you seen with the updated Rom?

Ok I get how you get the $350 but why do you deduct the $80 again? You get eather one or the other rebate not both, depending on the contract length

OK, we know we may not be able to get the update you did, but if we did, would it be worthwhile? Please tell us there is at least hope. Can you give us an idea of the improvements if any?

Thanks

Ahm...I think he talking about the updated ROM from the one that he had as a pre-release model -- not the updated ROM from what Best Buy is releasing.....

Posted by: nskgti23

My ROM will be newer than the Cingular version.

Discount with 2 year contract $70. Rebate w/ 2 year contact and 24.99 data plan, additional 80. There is your answer.

Posted by: spartacus13b

There is not $80 rebate evern if you get $24.99 data plan, this is how the rebates work.

1 Year contract with $24.99 data plan - rebate $30
2 Year contract with $24.99 data plan - rebate $50

So you can get one or the other not both.

I took a look at AT&T's website and they finally removed the MPX200. So I am thinking that hopefully Monday 10/18 they will be releasing the MPX220.

Posted by: spartacus13b

Motorola MPx is on sale in USA at ALL Best Buy locations starting 10/17 and it is Cingular branded but can be used with any GSM provider since it IS unlocked, AT&T will most likely be getting theirs in early november

Posted by: exchguy

Are you sure about all Best buys or just Best Buys that sell Cinglar? In Colorado, there is no Cingular so Best Buy only tends to sell Sprint and Verizon. Most ATTWS phones have been pulled from the displays at the Best Buys here in Denver.

Yeah sorry about that...only the best buys in Cingular coverage area have them for sale and the price I got quoted it 347.99 for the phone straight out bt I have to drive 2 hours to get it...

Posted by: AngelJo008

The price for those of you who are not Cingular stright out is 500.00

the 349.00 is for Cingular upgrades or new contracts with
100.00 rebate for 2 year contract or
50.00 rebate with 1 year contract--

since At&T and Cingular are merging, it is really up to you which ROM/Flex version you wish to have and how much you really want to pay for the phone---It's your choice--

What's Cingular's track record for providing ROM updates? ATTWS is notorious for not updating any of their phones.

(Which is actually the only reason I am a little gunshy about the MPX220, bad MPX200 experience)

Posted by: AngelJo008

From what I understand, you can take it into a Cingular store (Corporate) that has a technitian who has the motorola cables and software in order to undate the ROM---or simple wait long enough and someone will come out with one (generic)--However, some Cingular stores do not have technitians and if they do, some dont have the ability to update the ROM--like in small midwestern towns (LOL)

So, there is no official "download and upgrade" path with Cingular? Local tech or nothing? Just wondering what life is going to be like post-merger.

Well I drove 280 miles and I got my MPx220....... I love this phone

Yea, yea, yea you have your sources! lol Seriously though, while you cannot give us the updated ROM, would you please let us know any and all improvements that it contains. I think just the possibility of some fixes would help some people to take the plunge and get the phone.

Thanks.

Posted by: emenindian

yes, please definitely start a new thread and list all of the improvements if you see any!!!....we are all desperate to know! Thanks.

Posted by: rockdrala

back up your pre-release rom and post a download of it. this pre-release is unlocked and I want it.

Posted by: Naveen

may be it is better that attws customers have to wait

Posted by: spartacus13b

Well technicly you do not have to wait. You can get one from Cingular since they own ATT so it is the same thing

They don't own them YET! There is still a few things that could possibly go wrong. (SBC bouncing a check, etc.)

Posted by: spartacus13b

Actually the purchase is done the only thing they are doing right now is trying to make ATT a part of Cingular. And if they cannot do that Cingular will still own ATT but they will be 2 different comanies

thats my plan. but hopefully they wont make us get a ×××× data plan to go with it. also 1 question...hopefully this will be my first smartphone, how do you backup the rom? or is it impossible just like backing up a motorola firmware?

Posted by: rockdrala

Good question. you can download a cracked version of Motorola PST 6.7 from ×××××××××××× it allows you to back it. then throw it on a FTP or email to everyone so we can mod the heck out fo some phones!

The Microsoft phones work a little diferent, as far as I know. I don't think PST will work on them.

Posted by: chopsu3i

um, i have a v600 and PST will NOT let you backup firmware or flex. it only allows you to flash since this software is for service centers only so they have all the firmware and flexes on hand. that is prob why moto doesnt have a way of backing up firmware.

Posted by: rockdrala

Then I think we need to find out where it is and how active sync is deployed in flashing.

The merger won't be completed by the end of this month. Look towards the end of the year. For now, they are still two seperate companies.

Posted by: refnulf

Is the mpx220 65k or what? I remember reading it was 262k or somethin...

Yes but Cingular owns ATT, bought and paid for. Now they are waiting for the merger to go thru

why would you want to back up the firmware?

Posted by: chopsu3i

if there was a way to backup a motorola v600 firmware it would be very valuable because then we could backup carrier firmware and save it just in case we need it for warranty purposes. and since the moto v620 is coming out it has video recording and if there was a way to backup that firmware we could possible add video capture to existing v600's.

Whatever source you got that info from is completely wrong... I know this is the wrong forum to discuss this, but it needs to be known that Cingular will not ever operate AWS as a second company... they have too much at stake...like.. umm.. being number one.... the companies will be intergrated within one year....and by the way... the deal is not done, we are still waitingin the DOJ and FCC to approve the acquisition.. supposedly 3 out of 5 justices have approved the acquisition... just my 2 1/2 cents..

Wrong again... Cingular and AWS are operating as two seperate companies... no money has changed hands.. in fact, it is a violation of pre-merger rules set forth by the FCC to pay for a company before it is even approved by the FCC and DOJ...as soon as we are given the go ahead, the money will be sent electronically to and AWS stockholder account.. actually this is such a large some of money that it has to be sent it several transfers...

crazy is right, from what I remember reading the reason that cingualr bought attws was to become the biggest in the US

Seems that you need to take Busines 101 at a local community college. The purchase of ATT has nothing to do with the merger. Those are two different transactions and FCC has no roluing on the purchase of another company.

Posted by: Blazers4ever

Wrong again my friend. ATTWS is still being publically traded as we speak. It would be a violation to complete the transaction before getting final approval.

I am a shareholder, and we will be the first to know when the sale has gone through.

Posted by: kyndacrazy

Thank you!!

Posted by: rockdrala

I am going to want the v620 flex on my v300. the v600 flex I put on their is working great.
I think we should learn more about the mpx flashes for their roms and how to mod and customie them. From what i understand Active Sync is used to do this.

Chopsui's right, instead of waiting on some disgruntled motorola service tech to throw it on the web we should find a way to back up the firm and flex ourselves.

I'm going to go ahead and say that AT&T will start selling the mpx220 next week, Oct. 25th.

Posted by: sploo

I went to my local AT&T store last Friday and was told that the MPX-200 was discontinued...

Doesn't seem like a smart move if the MPX-220 is a month away?

(just hoping to get my mitts on that baby soon!)

My rep just told me the 21st. But figure a little bit of time for the stores to get it.

Right now, I am deciding whether I want to risk dealing with CC to buy a phone again. (Returns are a serious mess!)

Posted by: rayhurst

for those of you that are ATTW insiders - any word on whether the ROM is updated with improvements over the Cingular version, i.e. poor volume/camera, WMP 10, etc?

aslo, i thought i read somewhere that Best Buy had a 30 day exclusive. is that not the case?
