I have a similar issue as yours lately, the screen goes off when i try to set alarm, but it won't shut off itself though...i think it's a firmware issue, i am gonna upgrade the firmware just to see if it 's gonna fix this problem.. what firmware are you using rite now?

its a f/w issue....get it flashed by your provider.

It sounds like it might be a problem with the LCD. I think a lot of 8890's have this problem. Try this... Press down gently (don't want to break anything) in different places on your phone and try turning the phone on again. Chances are things are loose (most likely the screen). If the phone turns on and then you left go and it turns off this is the problem. With my phone I just added some tissue paper behind the phone in between the battery cover and the battery to apply a bit of pressure. Worked for me anyways.

^if the screen is loose, get the t-6 screwdriver and tighten all screws.

I tried that but no luck. I didn't want to over tighten and accidentally strip the threads.

it will crack once or twice before they stripp......then try to replace the screen.

if you apply a bit of pressure above the lcd on the housing, it should get the display back
if you open up the phone na dput a piece of foam or tissue paper there to keep applying constant pressure, this usually fixes it
