bitpim help

i cannot get my vx4400 to talk to bitpim. it was working months ago when i tried it last, but now says it failed to open. i have tried making it com4, com5, com1 and auto. notthing works. i have the cable with the box in the middle of it, so i think it is the right cable. i have spent hours on this and am going nuts. can anybody help me please!!!!
