Odd mpx220 camera issue at 1280x960

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

For some reason (I swear this worked before) every time i take a pic at 1280x960 I get something resembling a TV with the horizontal sync out (see attached image, note that it has been resized from original size). (it also brings up the "beach ball wheel" while saving the picture for preview) At any lower resolution it is absolutely fine.

Any clue what could be going on? I've tried rebooting the phone several times. Anyone else seen this? I'd say there was a hardware issue, but all other resolutions are fine (video as well).

thanks for any ideas

I posted the same issue yesterday.

Hard Reset worked fine for me. I'd exchange it if the hard reset with format doesn't get you back up and running.

Phew, many thanks. It seems I have the same exact symptoms as you. With the flip closed I can take pix at the high resolution. I was really diggin the phone and didn't want to hassle with a return.

Did you put any effort to finding out what actually caused it?

I'll try the hard reset. Is the best procedure just to do a backup and then a restore after the reset, or did you re-install stuff from scratch?

How exactly is the hard reset done on a Smartphone?

If it is the hard reset that fixes it then there has to be some temporary file or config that is causing it. The only difference between flip open and flip closed seems to be that it flips over the image top to bottom.

Jim,

No, I didn't look into it further. I work with Windows CE .Net for a living and probably will look into it if it happens again. Sure wish there was a debug port on this phone and it was a debug build

My install was pretty clean, just contacts. I would probably backup any data you have, then re-deploy the apps and put the data back on the phone.

For the Hard Reset, with the phone off press and hold the Blue "OK" or "Select" button, while holding it turn on the phone. When prompted to "format?" press the key under the "Yes" on the lower left.

same issue here, thanks halfmoon the hard reset worked for me!

I've done the hard reset and the problem comes back. I've noticed that if I disable BT, the problem goes away completely. As soon as I enable BT, it comes back. mileage may vary but would be interesting to see if that works for anybody else.

I think you've got it! I was able to replicate your tests exactly.

The facts:
Flip closed at high resolution always works
Flip open at high resolution only worked with bluetooth off
Flip open at high resoltuion with bluetooth on resulted in the "scrambled" picture

At this time the only thing I can come up with is that the software piece that flips the image over (due to the picture size) could be conflicting with BT or competing with BT for memory and it causes the scambled pic.

Though I am not sure if the image is flipped over when the flip is open or when its closed (ie which way is the native camera orientation).

thoughts?

Then explain to me why when I do not have Bluetooth enabled and at high resolution it scrambled--the only time it has happened was when I was outside and it was about 45.o F it was VERY damp that day--hasn't happened since and I did not do a hard reset--BT may be a contributing factor, but not in this case--I think my phone didn't like the cold and damp air.

Unfortunately I can't explain that one. ahah so its not a perfect theory, but its a theory.

Perhaps it has another function we hadn't considered? It shivers saying it's cold so it revolts by scrambling the pic!! Who knows with technology. Great "working" theory...

Mine does the same thing. Bluetooth on, I get scramble. Bluetooth off, I don't get scramble. ???????

another forum said that if the the handheld is not held perfectly still, then it can scramble the pic as well---I would think it would just blurr--but maybe that's just me

i posted the same thing in the motorola forum
"after the 1st day of use, when i take pics in the highest res mode(1280x960)(bad), they all come up distorted. in lower res (640x480)(good) they com out fine. both link are of the same picture...

http://www.geocities.com/phatman81/pics/good.jpg "

thanks for the info guys, i am on my way to work but will try the hard reset when i get there.
will post from there if all good or not.

I can also confirm the bluetooth issue and the scrambled pics--, still havent figured out the other reason it scrambled--oh well...
