Questions about old phones

Guys/gals [and anyone confused as to which they are],

I'm looking to buy a backup phone for the tdma nation plan I'm on. I have a nokia 5165 and have gotten great service out of it. It gets great reception, has an external antenna port, and doesn't seem to want to go anywhere near a repair shop (knock knock). I'm well aware that Cingular is gsm only now and will laugh mightily at you should you want a new tdma phone from them.

I know I'm looking at old school phones here (and ebay to buy it from). Is the Nokia 5165 king of the hill, taking into account phones of that era? I like it just fine, but wondered what any of you knew/thought about the 6161/2260/2260 from Nokia or the Motorola v60ti or 120T?

I live in what's officially called BFE, so signal reception, durability, good volume on the earpiece, ability to plug in an external antenna...basically what I'm after.

Thanks in advance,

RR

if i were you, i'd go for the nokia 6560. you get all the features of the newer phones like poly tones, color screen, voice commands, speakerphone to name a few. all in the wonderful world of tdma.
old phones are boring.

I liked my Nokia 3560 and 2260 for my old tdma service, 2260 had the nice blue backlight and solid performance. the 3560 looked like current phones but had good tdma performance. I also had good service out of my motorola v60t but it was a bit more fragile than the other two.

i have old *** phones....anyone know where to sell other thn ebay?

A buddy of mine had the Nokia 2260 and it probably does look the coolest of the later model tdma phones. However, his mysteriously died and so did the identical replacement for it. I've done some reading/digging and found that a few folks say they have this trouble with it.

I like the older phones cause they have a port on the back you can plug an external antenna into. That's very important where I live/work and very hard to find on later nokia's. On gsm, when all you can get is a digital signal and no analog, I'd probably be biased towards the moto 400. Nokia has file 13'ed the external antenna port for now on new phones.
