Sony Ericsson P910i Firmware Update Service Online... now Offline!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: WereSHARK

For a short while the Sony Ericsson P910i Firmware Update Service was Online... now Offline/password protected!

For all that didn't know, the URL: http://www.sonyericsson.com/updates...0i/frameset.htm
was operational, for a short while on October 20,2004 in the early, like 1-3AM (PST), but now public access is restricted. The latest CDA is supposed to be CDA162005/# R2A16 - so check your phones... especially if you were trying so hard to be amongst the first to have the P910i in your country (like me), chances are you have the old firmware.. something along the lines of - R1A29

So.. the SE update site's admins or techs or whomever is responsible just pulled public access to the site and added username/password authentication to the site. Guess they don't want people updating their phones before its appropriate?!?

To make matters worse, I WAS able to start the update process by choosing Automatic Verification, instead of Manual (where you type in your CDA) Verification. Goes through the steps just like updating the P900...

So it started installing up until 61% then timed out. Then the website refreshed with the username/password Authentication screen. SO now my phone has 1/2 and 1/2 updated files! Arghhh!

My phone stats are now:

Phone: CXC162042 R3E008 <- supposed to become R4A006
Bluetooth: CXC162028/1 R2C <- which I believe is updated.
Organizer: CXC162041 R2A17 <- is now up to date.
CDA: CDA162005/3 R1A29 <-- STILL OLD, supposed to become R2A16

*GRUMBLE* Man.. now I definitely need their website up and running soon.. god knows what kinda of wierd stuff is gonna happen on my phone now.(Good thing I backed up my data)

Anyone know of anyways of updating the phone manually with the files downloaded to the HDD?

It sucks cuz I have in my "C:/Program Files/Sony Ericsson/Update Service/software-data" the updated files.. now if there was only a way to get it onto my phone! (So close..so very close... do I need to find someone with Fighter software?)

The 6 files are:
HL1_162041_000000_0000_R2A17
HL1_162042.ssw_000000_0000_R4A006
HL1_CDA162005-3.bin_000000_0000_R2A16
HL1_CDA162005-3.img_000000_0000_R2A16
HL1_fload2_040507_1549_R2A051
HL1_ramlite_030320_1718_002

(at least those were the appropriate ones for my CDA162005/3)

Help? Somebody.. anybody?

Okay the Service is Back Up & apparently fully operational!

Here are some tips.

1)When updating, turn off your firewall completely, not your virus scanner, if you are having errors communicating with your phone.

2)Don't freak when it goes to around 66-67% and lingers there for almost 3-4minutes, literally! (It didn't crash or lock up) because it'll jump to 88%, then it'll go to 100% and linger literally for 3minutes! So again no need to panic!

I was able to update the phone finally... with Windows XP SP2 w/ PC Suite 3.0 & within Mozilla FireFox (IE gave me communication issues too, not sure if it was firewall or java related, so gave up on IE)

So ready, get set, and go update!

Oh yeah, if you have EziTap, you may need to reinstall the software/re-enter unlock key. Even after a Restore!

Have fun!

Firmware Update

I have not seen any recognizable improvements at all.. No release notes either. I also noticed the update is not available from their main URL so I'm guessing SE might be working on that.

Just done it!!!

Seemed a bit quicker than I remember my P900 was. Also worked a treat on Firefox.

Now I hope the BT is more stable and maybe there are other surprises???

Well since the release notes have finally been released I'm struggling with understanding at least one part of it.. The supposed RIM BBC Client support. I definately doesn't seem like any additional software has been added. So is this a sign that the software that Blackberry licensed to SE is finally going to come to light? SE sure as hell did a good job marketing its phones with the promise of the technology, but fell short in delivering it so far.

In February 2004, SE & RIM announced that Blackberry would be supported on the P900 (yes, P900). Even today, the P900 is listed on www.Blackberry.com as being able to support BlackBerry Connect software.

Eight months later, with P900 discontinued for the P910, I am still waiting to see these promises fulfilled.

I gues the P900 promise never will be fulfilled.

I am very interest to know, though, if the new P910 firmware has BlackBerry Connect integrated into the phone now, or if there was something done in the firmware to make it ready to load the BBC software.

As far as what I've seen apparently this firmware change has added a 'blind' support to blackberry. There's still software that needs to be installed on the phone. SE has a license for that software, but has not really done anything tangible with it. There is nothing in this phone now that allows me to configure blackberry settings at all. I have a blackberry account, but then again no software for me to play with.. This is a joke.

I have spent several hours trying to get the update service to work on my P910i and every time it gets between 14 and 30 % it stops and I get an error message saying that communication was lost. I then hae to remove the battery and start over only to have the same thing happen again.
Can anyone offer any help?

Download and install a browser app called "Firefox" and try again through there.

I tried the installation through Firefox and still no luck. I am open to any suggestions.
Thanks in advance!

i dare not to do an upgrade so far

but i want to ask who else has an experience on it?

thank you!

Posted by: BigFeat

It's kinda impossible to update a P910a via SE's website when a P910a is not available for support yet. With that said, even once it is the phone's IMEI will obviously alert the system it is not a P910a. So all your future updates must be done via hard flashes.. Forget the virtual stuff.

Posted by: Cheech

I hope there is another build on it's way as my P910i seems more unstable after I flashed it!

Keeps locking up from time to time and seems slower too!

You might try a master reset. That seems to fix the issue for most members that are experiencing this after a firmware flash.

yeap i always mater reset after flashing any phone, not just p9X0.

Posted by: Cheech

Will try that, thanks.

Hi, iam zahid malik from pakistan.Installation of the driver for FOMA
You connect with the personal computer with the USB cable for FOMA
The method of connecting FOMA to the personal computer is explained. Perusal and connecting really to after the last, the installation etc of the driver software please do.

The USB cable for FOMA is connected to the USB port of the personal computer. Because functioning it does not do the USB cable for FOMA, as for itself as USB equipment, if only the cable was connected to the personal computer, as for installation of the driver it does not start.

When next, FOMA itself is connected to the cable, when the driver software for the FOMA type which is connected to the personal computer is not installed, installation of the driver software is started at this point in time. This, in order FOMA itself functioning to do as USB equipment, because it is designed, becomes this kind of operation.

With [ketai] link, as for the driver software for FOMA, “the communication setting file” for each type which is attached to the product of FOMA is utilized. Because this setting file differs every type, when it communicates with FOMA of the new type, it is necessary to install “the communication setting file” for that type. There is no FOMA driver software as the one for [ketai] link.

When CD-ROM where this “communication setting file” enters there is no labor assistant, it is possible to download from the following page of the Web sight of NTT [dokomo].

 http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/support/..._set/index.html

When this page does not open directly, tracing the download-related page from the Web sight page of NTT [dokomo], please download the “communication setting file”.

Please read the explanation of the download page, download “the communication setting file” of the necessary type, thaw the file.

Copying the driver file once in the hard disk of the personal computer, when it installs, it can designate installation as when re-installation has become necessary, simply even with when it installs from CD. After the installing, we recommend the fact that that file is left to the folder that way.

“The communication setting file” with WindowsXP (driver software) installation
The driver software is installed, it is necessary with the user which has manager authority to log on in Windows.

When FOMA is connected to the personal computer where the driver software for the type is not installed, the equipment whose Windows is new is recognized, the following dialogue is indicated. It is example in the case of N900i, but in general it becomes similar procedure even in the other type.

Here by all means, “it installs from the place of summary or specification” please insert check. Because at the point in time when at this dialogue is indicated, another side has entered selective state please be sure to modify. Verifying check, it clicks.

In at this dialogue, “the driver of the optimum is searched at the following place” to select, “the following place is included”, check is inserted.

After that, it clicks, it selects the folder where the driver is retained.

When it installs from CD-ROM, in case of N900i if is, “D:\USB Driver\Win2000 " is selected. In this case, “D: Because “it is the drive of CD-ROM, drive name (alphabet) it differs depending upon the environment of the personal computer.

When the file which it downloads is thawed, “N900i_USB_Driver inside the folder which is thawed \ Win2000 " is selected. By the way in downloading " the my document " folder, when it thaws, “C:\Documents and Settings\ < user name > \ My Documents \ N900i_USB_Driver \ it becomes Win2000 ".

  It clicks and next advances.

It becomes this kind of indication, increases in the following indication.

Now, it completed the installation of the driver of 1 types. It clicks.

Because [dohaiba] of plural types is installed with similar procedure, until installation of the driver ends, this procedure is repeated.
