My Nokia 3650 (TMO) is dying. Customer service says they can replace with refurb for $70, or upgrade to new phone and get back on a contract. I'm happy with TMO as a service provider, no qualms there. I have 1000 Whenever Minutes, Unlim GPRS, and Unlim Wifi. I use the GPRS / Wifi when possible so I would like to keep a plan where data is a good part of it. I also work for a large corporation that gets some form of discount on services and phone costs -- so switching to other GSM providers (ATT/Cing) would not be impossible. I also own a HP iPaq 5450 and love the richness that it offers. I have often used the 3650 as a BT GPRS modem for both the ipaq and a thinkpad. I dont think that I could ever give that functionality up. I SMS like crazy with the family, and since I have a family plan with TMO (all people have V300's except for me / wife has 3650) we message and picture message each other a lot.
So ..
I'm hung on 3 major decisions: 1) Refurb the 3650, get a Blackberry for better data / corp email 2) Get a Smartphone (I'm leaning toward the SP3 / AV 5600) --or-- a Nokia 66xx 3) Go for broke (literally) and get an iMate PDA2K (MDA III).
For the middle one (#2) -- can anyone compare the functionality, pro's, and con's between the Typhoon based handsets and the Nokia 6600?
As a point of reference, I like the UI of the nokia's but I think their desktop software really suffers. The MS Smartphones lure me because all of my personal contacts are in OL and it looks like the synchronization between OL and the MS SM's would be a LOT BETTER than the Nokia Desktop software.
I played with a MPx220 at BB tonight, and admittedly, although I did play with it for less than 10 minutes, I felt that the UI was rougher than the Nokias (at least the 3650) probably that I've been using the 3650 for 2+ years now, I'm used to it and anything new is a change.
Can you use an iPaq via BT to send SMS messages through either phone (cant do this with the 3650)?
I dont really use Java that much or WAP. But -- using the contacts (>2000 contacts), calendar (sync with Notes?) is important. Using consistant desktop software where I can rely on good synching with Outlook / Notes is imperative.
Thoughts about the comparison of the 66xx to the typhoons?
Thanks in advance!
Mike
(BTW -- I dont know if it's a no-no or not, but I'm going to cross post this to the MS Smartphone forum too)
