...in Windows Media format to view on my phone? I've heard of people watching sit-coms ect.

Well, you can find much material on any P2P network like Kazaa etc. Not sure on the legality of what you'll find, but it's there... like episodes of Family Guy or Seinfeld for example.

You find hardly any movies or sitcoms on any website, due to bandwidth costs.
So your best luck is P2P,,, Emule, DC++, are my favorites.
Then use Movie Maker thats included on WinXP to convert it to a 3-5MB file.
I have a couple of music videos on my MPX220 which look and sound very nice.
You can transfer these files to your phone using ActiveSync.
ActiveSync will then convert your file again to play on your phone, usually makes it mono instead of stereo, and changes the size.

Im going to try and use Nero Encode to convert some videos soon. It converts to MPEG4, instead of Movie Makers MPEG2. Hopefully this will work and I can get higher quality with less space.
I let ya know what happens.

i use a newsgroup to download PPC formatted stuff and make my own smartphone formatted stuff.

check this post for some tips... http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=481429

aside from that last night i downloaded the DVD to Smartphone Demo at handango.com and the beta player that comes with that seems to be a far better player than PocketMVP for smartphone and much more stable. i have not yet figured out if the player is also just a demo or if it does not expire because it is a beta. so far DVD to smartphone is looking like a thumbs up and i might purchase it.

peace out,

Do we have to download PocketTV that I've been hearing about? What's the difference between mono and stereo sound? and MPEG2 and MPEG 4? What is the one we have originally on the MPx220? Thanks!

I have not checked out Pocket TV, and DVD to Smartphone I heard is a waste of money. I watched a show called "the screensavers" and they reviewed it. They said all it does is uses microsofts built in MPEG encoder. So it basically takes a MPEG file and has a shell of a program that then compresses the file using software thats already built into windows. You could use Movie Maker and DVD decrypter and get much better results.

As for mono and stereo, Mono is sound that only uses 1 speaker, and Stereo uses 2 speakers. If you have ever listened to a CD with headphones and you heard certain sounds coming out of the left speaker and had other sounds only coming out of the right speaker, thats Stereo. Mono usually combines those so that its the same on both left and right speakers. This also allows files to have a smaller size, and take up less space on your phone.

MPEG is a formula that compresses Data, So that you could have a large file and convert it to a small file while preserving some quality. Most current DVD's use MPEG2, MPEG3 was licensed for audio only and has became better known as MP3's. MPEG4 is the next generation and is back in the video realm again. So MPEG4 like MPEG2 can compress audio/video. But MPEG4 will create higher quality videos and allow those videos to be smaller then MPEG2 files.

pocket tv only supports MPEG1 files. that means large file size and low video quality so i have never tried it any futher than just giving it a quick look when i had a full PPC. i was very unimpressed and found it to be sub par.

DVD to smartphone, well how can i say this politely, the screensavers are a bunch of idiots and i would sooner take advice from AOL tech support than listen to those half witted, should be on a mac, morons. DVD to smartphone does not use software that is 'already built into windows'. it is a DivX encoder that creates DivX files and if you cxall microsoft and ask them they will gladly tell you how DivX has nothing to do with them.

yes you could get the same product by using DVD Decrypter and VirtualDub (i was under the impression that windows media encoder, now known as movie maker does not support the DivX format for output). however with DVD to smartphone it is already preconfigured so even someone as dumb as a screensavers cast member couldn't screw up the configuration. its a one click conversion utility.

but the real strong point of DVD to smartphone is the beta player that comes with it to be loaded onto the phone. as far as i can tell the only DivX players that work with a smartphone would be PocketMVP and this beta player. pocketMVP will lock up if you try to do anything besides play and pause. on my sprint branded I600 i can not stop or change the video mid way though play, it locks up pocketMVP. i can not fast forward or rewind because it will lock up pocketMVP. the beta player that comes with DVD to smartphone actually works and supports DivX files.

I’ve tried just about every different way of ripping DVD’s for both Pocket PC and Smartphone. (Only DVD’s I own of course) For my SMT, I’ve gotten the best results by ripping the disc using SmartRipper, converting to Divx using a program called PocketDivXEncoder, then playing with BetaPlayer.

Usually comes out to 1MB per minute of video, and impeccable quality There are lots of threads on MoDaCo about video conversion.

pchop69,

Thanks for the advice, I used the PocketDivxEncoder to re-encode some divix AVI files that I had lying around. They went from approx 360MB down to 54MB and look great on the phone, that is awesome, thanks!

As for the original question about where to find TV content, go here....

TVTorrents

You will need to have a bittorrent client installed to download anything there. I suggest Azureus

Hope that helps.
