v600 to v620 not possible?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I heard that after waiting for three months for the release of the v620 the hardware, camera or something are different and that the sofware is not compatible for the v600, is this true?

Posted by: Da Rippa

No one knows for sure yet... Just a lot of speculation. I think it will work... We just need a good flash/flex...

Posted by: dviper

i hope it does video on v600 would be so tight

Posted by: weirddude

the flash/flex will work most likely. however, based on the fact that it is taking moto well over a year to develop the v620 after the v600, i am guessing that the hardware is different. just my $.02. there have been rumors that the v620 uses a newer and faster ATi Imageon chip. you may get the video recording capabilities, but your framerate will be dropped. but hey, at least you get video recording! =)

I think it's a 50/50 shot for the video capture, but we'll just have to wait and see. Worst case, just trade in the V600 for a V620, cut your losses, and enjoy a new phone with new stuff.

Do any of you think it will vibe and ring at the same time? Do you think it will allow for different ringtones for text messaging versus regular calls? I certainly hope so, those are the only drawbacks to most Motorola phones. I answer it in the middle of the night to find out it was only a text.

It makes sense not to have it vibe and ring at the same time, since that causes the audio speaker to potentially become damaged because of the vibration while the ringtone is playing, but Nokia mastered the art a LONG time ago, so why the wait?

JB/ nice post. I agree totally.
If Nokia can do it, why can't motorola?

I agree about simultaneous ring and vibrate. I hate having to keep switching profiles whenever I leave the house.

As for different ringtones for text and calls, my v600 can do that. I use an MP3 ringtone for calls and the stock "Notifiy" boing sound for texts. You can set it up in the Ring Style Detail menu for each Ring Style.

It does vibe and ring at the same time. The thread stating v620 from singapore is here. The guy has pic's and says it does both at same time. Here is the link for the pics

Oooh, it says 256K screen. That might not be good if you're upgrading a V600 to its firmware. . .

As far as the different ringtones between text and calls, I meant for each individual. I thought that with the new categories, I'd be able to keep my default text alert for everyone anyway, but it seems it keeps the same ringtone for both even with just a category ringtone supplied. Boo.

whats up with the up to. that means the software supports a 65k screen, huh.... huh..., do ya think

Posted by: lambi

I spoke with a tech at a motorola shop, and I was told that the v600 has all the capabilities of the v620, just down graded software. Just like having a Good piece of hardware on a computer, but with old drivers. The V620 software allows the v600 to work like new hardware

its a sales trick, make a bunch of one thing, ship it out as the new phone, then a year later release the rest of the stock under a new name. allows them to sell more without costing them more.

yeah it's a revision
reminds me of the t68m - t68i thing

nice
scams
hopefully we can flash ours to 620 any updates on getting those seems? or does anyone have the 620 firmware now?

Posted by: Ryujin

This "up to 262k colours" thing is strange, indeed. I've done a quick survey of all the websites I use to get new phone info, and their spec sheets are pretty evenly divided between 65k and 262k .

It looks to me like the phone will be released with a 65k screen and then, in about six months, a "v620i" or somesuch will come out with a new 262k screen (and maybe a megapixel camera).

There's another, more cynical, possibility. The new flash/firmware may be standard across Moto's new range of existing and upcoming video-capable phones, and may indeed "support up to" 262k colours on the next generation of v-Series phones. The 620, however, won't be able to take advantage of this support with its 65k screen. Moto can still get away with its "up to 262k" claim because they'll say,"well, the software supports it, so that counts."

not necessarily so. reportedly the v620 has a newer version of the ATI imageon, as said by bigike in another thread. supposedly its 30 fps in the v620.

so it's all still up in the air. and the fact the the new firmware from the v551 and v3 don't work at all on the vxxx has me worried a bit. even with the extra stuff, i would have hoped for at least a start up even if functions are screwed up, but now it has me worried aobut the v620 flash/flex.

Posted by: SlverWolf

From everything i've read about it the internal hardware all seems to be the same between the 620 and the 600 as some of the others on here have said. i haven't seen anything pointing to it having the new version of the ATi Imageon but from what i understand, all that new version allows is a more efficient use of the processing power of the phone and a better picture playback, i don't think it'll hinder the ability to record and playback those recordings...

Posted by: lambi

Like I said before, Its all in the software. Upgraded files, drivers or seems, whatever you want to say. When the V620 comes out It will just be a kick in the @$$ for those who buy it. " ITS JUST A BLACK V600 WITH BETTER SOFTWARE".

to the last guy who mentioned the V3 and V551, the V3 is a different phone all together, not meant to be like the v600 or other v series phones, and whenever the last number changes on a product something new or different has been added or changed.

I'm trying to decide between a new v600 a v535 or a v620 at the moment. The old Startac died after 5 years of loyal service.

Do I buy one of the last of the v600 stock and firmware upgrade to the v620 or try the v535??

What would you do?

I'm not tryin to be rude or mean or anything but If you read this thread than you would know that currently we/you CannoT upgrade a v600 to a v620 firm/flex. personally, i'd say get the v535 but it's up to you and what ur lookin for in a phone, plus i think it looks better than the v600/620 does...

Posted by: JohnMc2000

Thanks Slverwolf.

I hear you wrt the lack of progress with the 620 firmware on the 600's.

I'm still giving them a chance though... they seem pretty damned motivated

I had been very serious about the v535. I was a little thown by the price difference though. Is there a build quality difference between the 535 & 600/620?

In oz there's a $20 per month variation between the 535 and 620 phones over a 24 month contract.
It starts to add up

it's been a waste of time trying to upgrade to the v620 as i tried flash/flexing with v620 software, killed my phone, luckily i could revive it, tried mma ucp/dcp files, it gave me the ring and vibe menu but not the function, help i'am going insane

Yeah thats what happened to me, i wish they'd hurry up and release the phone in the US or everywhere else as well, we need another version of the flash/flex...

Posted by: chuckmacher

you guys it's going work ever, i mean even if it was at slower rate video recording would be cool, plus the ring&vibe capability would be awesome, let me know if there is any progress.

Posted by: carsmovies

Well the V551 is already using totally new s/w. It's no longer using the Triplets s/w.

But it still doesn't have the feature to vibe and ring at the same time. It does however allow the speakerphone to be activated prior to the call going through.
