SMT-5600 keypad light when unlocking

Maybe it's just me, but I find it annoying that the keypad light doesn't come on when you want to unlock the phone in the dark. If you press the left softkey or power switch, the display backlight comes on. But since you also have to press the # key, it would be nice if the keypad would also light up. Since the bottom row of keys is so close to the edge of the phone, I find myself 'fat-fingering' it a couple of times before I hit just the # key.

This feature makes plenty of sense. The function of the key lock is so that the phones keys are deactivated to prevent accidental calls or light illumination to prevent battery drainage.

You may not realize how many times a-day you hit a key on your phone by accident. If the light came on with every touch... you know the rest!

After a while you will find it like second nature going to the left soft-key and # to unlock.

I understand the need for the backlight not coming on when any key is pressed. My point is it should come on after you press the 'unlock' softkey, since the # key is needed to complete the sequence.

Huh?

If you have the keyboard lock on, and your screen is off, you have to press the soft-button 2x and then # to unlock.

The first time you press the soft-button, the light comes on.

I guess I'm not making myself clear. It's not the screen I have a problem with - it's the keypad backlight.
I know when the screen is locked, you can press the power button or the left softkey. This turns on the screen backlight, but not the keypad. I just think the screen backlight and keypad backlight should behave the same way when in the lock mode to make it easier to see the # key. I guess it's the design of the keypad, with the bottom row of keys so close to the edge. It feels awkard to me when using my right thumb to press this key if I get a call while driving. I know this seems trivial to most, but I think it could be addressed in a firmware update along with the ability to use bluetooth to voice-dial when in lock mode.

That makes a lot more sense.
