I'm looking for a slide phone, I've always liked them. My main thing, since I'm using a T-mobile PPC phone right now with HORRIBLE reception, is that I want a phone with good reception. Formerly I used a Nokia 3620 and the reception was fantastic. But I'm ready for a new phone again. If you can advise another slide phone you know of, or give me any feedback on this siemens I'd appreciate it. TIA

I'm using SL55, and I have most amazing reception indoor/outdoor. (at least in Toronto). Much better than Motorola anyways.

From what I have read is that the SL56 does NOT get good reception. That is why I'm holding off on buying it. I guess my best bet would be to find someone using the SL56 on T-mobile in the states preferably in/near Florida. Whats the difference between the SL55 and SL56? Any other slide phones that anyone knows about that are decent?

I imagine it depends on your location...

But I have found the SL56 to have good reception. I ended up giving it to my g/f and it even does well in her neighborhood where signal strength is notoriously low.
My t637 does better than the SL56, but it's not a slider and not as small.
I'm actually thinking of getting another SL56 for a backup/alternate phone since my g/f won't give it back.

I think read in this forum a few months ago that older firmwares for the phone did not perform as well in RF tests...
the concensus was that the newer firmware (ver. 10 if I remember correctly) boosted the signal strength.
To be honest, I never checked the firmware version on my SL56 so I don't know what it had...

Well one reason about the "horrible reception" is probably the choice of T-Mobile, especially with the problem you describe indoors. Since T-Mo is all 1900 MHz, this band does not have as good as building penetration as a 850 MHz band.

My SL56 had generally good reception (better than my wife's Moto) and our house is in a marginal coverage area.

I just got an SL 55, the reception is great! It is even better than my S 56 which I loved. The difference between the SL55, and SL56 is that the SL55 is a triband phone, and the SL56 is a dual band phone. I am not sure if this would affect you. I believe the triband can be used in other countries, and the dual band can not. I honestly chose the SL55 over the SL56 because there was a limited edition black phone available in the SL55, and I just thought it looked better That being said, the SL55 is a great phone. The reception fantastic, and so is its super cool looks!

The RF of the SL56 is very good for a phone of this size. Not the best but more than decent.
